Home security system suggestions? - ideally with no contracts, self monitored

I'm looking for suggestions on home security. When we moved in, there was an old ADT system, however, it is now throwing errors (we were told it could be a battery issue but ADT will not fix it as the system is not supported by them anymore and they want us to upgrade).
So I am looking to see if I can get some cameras, door and window sensors, indoor motion detector and an alarm in a system which we can monitor ourselves. I am not very hands on so anything which is beginner DIY I could do, but otherwise I'd be relying on professional instal.
I have seen good reviews on the Abode system. Has anyone got experience with this system?

I have a Reolink camera and Tuya sensor setup that has been fine. No contracts, Reolink just works, Tuya takes a little setup and does send data to China but you pays your money..
Reolink is sensible money, Tuya stuff can be dirt cheap.

What does your reolink system look like?

Four outdoor cameras, four indoor ones and a doorbell camera all connected to an NVR via POE or wifi.
The only tiny bit of setup was getting the wifi cameras to show on the NVR. For that I had to click a couple of boxes on the NVR itself.
The basic NVR has room for 8 POE cameras and I think another 4 somewhere else on the same network.
The apps can be configured more or less how you want from then on, I mostly use home assistant.

Not sure I'd be comfortable creating a wired system. Do you think the solar powered, battery cameras connected to home hub would be a decent compromise?
I've had a look at the reolink argus series with solar panel and think that could be a good fit for me. I'm also thinking of moving in a few years so would make it easier for me to take the cameras with me.

I expect so. I have one wireless camera in my setup and it has been fine.
I just like mission critical stuff to be wired.

I use Eufy - cameras, doorbell, etc. all links back to a small storage device you keep in the house. No subscription needed unless you want to use cloud back up. Take a look at the range on Amazon.

Eufy is Chinese. I wouldn't consider it for home security.

Barky dog but you have to feed it.

Tp-link are quite good, I've got doorbell cameras, CCTV, door sensors, motion sensors, smart plugs. You can set them up to do smart functions, e.g "if motion detected, turn X light on". No subscription needed unless you need cloud storage, but they take SD cards so not a problem

We got Risco, they have a wild range of detectors/sensor and they work without payments. It's rather dumb, but recommend paying a small yearly fee for cloud services.
We connected ours to Risco Cloud for £20.99 per year with Google App subscriptions, third-party charges £30 pa. The cloud allows us to disable the alarm when we are away from home, or alert us if there is a intruder on the App. We been having false alarms here and there when it's really windy, but so far my neighbour is grateful that I can reset it while I'm on holiday.
It be interesting to have a fully none cloud security system, but for £20.99 it's only £1.75 a month.

You could either do a piecemeal DIY set up with Home Assistant but that's a lot of investment (time), or a slightly easier Ubiquiti set up but more expensive.
