I think those are the most common for me too, but I knew they were trade names. I had no idea until this thread that Styrofoam, Thermos, Dumpster, or velcro were actually trade names. I don't even know what I would call those particular things without googling(tm) them.

I think those shows worked because people still didn’t want to be seen as hypocrites and shame still had some role in politics. I am not sure Jon calling out hypocrisy works as well when the power flex of obviously doing and saying different things is the point.

We had a second line for my older sister mostly, right as I was getting to the age of wanting to talk on the phone more, we got internet and suddenly it was a “family internet line.” Worked out OK though cause I didn’t have many friends.

Ever have a sudden realization about something you have seen your entire life and just never put 2+2 together? I have somehow, thus far, just thought the name of this band was 4 random letters, and am only now realizing that it is "In excess." I likely first heard the band before I knew the word excess. I am clearly not a fan, and have not really thought about the band since I was a kid, but still shaking my head.

The shoes were fun for five minutes, but the rubber bands were pretty solid. I used a piece of pipe and jerry rigged a crossbow that actually was pretty fun for quite a while longer than the shoes before it was confiscated by my very angry mother.

not to my knowledge though any "tape" was a tape at that age, and not sure I would have realized I was using something different if I was at a friend's house as long as it resulted in getting to watch a movie.

At least it didn't have you relying on a door dispenser that gives up the ghost right as your in-laws come to visit and costs more to repair than an entirely new fridge could be had.

I was spanked maybe 2 or 3 times that I can remember. It made an impression. The threat was used more frequently and I have to say it worked. I did not spank my kids, and I do wonder sometimes if a lot of our "big battles" when they were younger could have been way LESS traumatic with a simple "keep doing that and you are going to get a spanking." Regular, frequent spankings have no place, but an occasional, stop them from doing things to endanger themselves spanking gives a parent another card to play I think could have a place. I had friends who got a belt on a quasi-regular basis and the ones I know that had that happen to them did not turn out great. Limited sample, I know.

Since we're discussing obscure 90s shows, anyone else fondly remember the Nowhere Man mystery? Still raw that it was cancelled after one season.

When deciding on the age, people were still getting regular exposure to chickenpox which acted as a natural booster. I think it needs to be revisited now that no one gets re-exposure.

I was very computer savvy from a young age, so I think I lean more millennial from that standpoint, but the cousins I am close to are all born in the 70s, so that was more formative. I am ok with it being the first year of the millenials, the line is somewhere around there.

I had no cavities until 23, then moved to a new city and had a cavity every 6 months(one each visit) until I was 27(paid cash to have them filled too...) Financial circumstances changed and I didn't go to the dentist again until I was 31 and was dreading it when I finally got a to a place I could go again. After the visit when he told me I was completely good and "see you back in 6 months" it suddenly dawned on me that maybe I had been had.
