I'll say it only once: I hate AI!

The worst thing is, it's quicky evolving and spreading everywhere. I'd like to know your thoughts about it.

q120@reddit

It has its place. Clearly it can be used for good and bad. It is here to stay so instead of wasting energy fighting against it, I’ll just adapt

Prestigious_Tiger_26@reddit

How can you adapt to someone crashing into you and then using AI to generate dash cam footage that shows you're at fault?
View on Reddit #72310053

TimeTravelingPie@reddit

Proof of this?
View on Reddit #72326367

Prestigious_Tiger_26@reddit

Proof that it's happening? Don't need to. AI is getting so good, you know it's eventually going to happen. It's going to get so good that you can't even tell it's AI anymore.
View on Reddit #72326493

TimeTravelingPie@reddit

No. You cited a specific example. Either you saw it somewhere (real or not) or you just made it up for some reason.
View on Reddit #72330792

Prestigious_Tiger_26@reddit

Do you see people creating AI videos now? Use your imagination and apply it to actual dash cam footage and you will have it. Does it have to have happened already? Use logic.
View on Reddit #72331133

TimeTravelingPie@reddit

I don't need to imagine anything. You provides an oddly specific scenario that doesn't exist as proof why AI is bad. You can literally invent any crazy scenario to fear monger. That doesn't prove any point.

Prestigious_Tiger_26@reddit

Sounds like somebody is paid for by big AI
View on Reddit #72340029

TimeTravelingPie@reddit

No, I'm just not an idiot and don't live my life by subscribing to conspiracies and mass hysteria.
View on Reddit #72362818

Prestigious_Tiger_26@reddit

Ah yes, random discussion about AI is mass histeria, fear mongering, and conspiracy. Go touch some grass dude, I can guarantee you don't even believe the words you say.
View on Reddit #72368174

TimeTravelingPie@reddit

This whole thread and your posts is just generic mass hysteria over AI. There is no real conversation here, just "derrr AI BAD".
View on Reddit #72368520

q120@reddit

That is different. Clearly that’s a risk I can’t adapt to. I meant things like LLMs
View on Reddit #72310113

FinallyKat@reddit

The issue is the umbrella term of AI itself. AI can be a useful tool (situationally) but is being used as a term for many things that are actively harming processes and people. Without the ability to separate and define these tools it will be difficult to regulate them. Which is one of the myriad reasons that the tech broligarchs are pushing so hard to blanket everything with 'AI' and make as much money as possible while stopping regulation
View on Reddit #72310557

shohei_heights@reddit

And you’ll have to adapt to the large economic crash that the AI bubble will cause very soon.
View on Reddit #72310299

Obviously
View on Reddit #72313221

TimeTravelingPie@reddit

People say that about every new technology. You are just getting old.
View on Reddit #72309915

shohei_heights@reddit

Most new technologies actually work.
View on Reddit #72310415

TimeTravelingPie@reddit

AI works. The problem is that the general public really doesn't understand what it is, how it works, and its appropriate uses. So instead of learning, they react with fear and disgust. Pick any technology and you will find historical examples of fear mongering and hysteria. From light bulbs to smartphones.
View on Reddit #72323155

shohei_heights@reddit

If you think "AI" works, then you don't understand the technology and the mathematics behind it. LLMs have some appropriate uses but ChatGPT and its ilk isn't one of them. Boil the oceans and destroy the economy so that little Jimmy can cheat on his English essay.

AI is a tool, just like any other. You have to know when to use it and what it's useful for. For internet searches, AI is essential since Google broke their algorithm. I'd been using Google to find shit since it went public, but in the last few years it became basically useless, ad-prioritized trash. Now with chat gpt I can actually find information. It just takes a bit of thought and source checking to distinguish between what's real and what's a hallucination. Also, I like that crafting the right question is like coming up with the right search terms used to be. FYI, you can tell it to just answer the question and not tell you how awesome you are just for asking. That shit was annoying.

CSWorldChamp@reddit

I’m calling it: in 5 years, no corporation will *touch* the term AI. Its name will be mud, and we won’t hear another thing about it. This whole thing has received *massive* investment, and shows no signs of ever turning a profit. The valuation of these companies is going up, up, up based on nothing but the hope that somehow, someday, it’s going to make someone some money. It hasn’t. Except for the chip manufacturers, the people selling “pickaxes and panning equipment” to all the CEOs who think they’ve found gold. Those goldrushers *need* us to believe in the buzzword, and their promises that it’s somehow going to make our lives better, because buzzword and promises are *all they have.* There’s no *intelligence* in this thing they call artificial intelligence. It’s a word-search algorithm that uses as much electricity as several major cities. It will never become profitable, the things it makes are uncreative garbage, and are becoming more so as it devours its own shit. This thing is going to come crashing down. Probably right in time to devalue all of our retirement savings. And then they’ll ask for a bailout like the banks did in 2008. And if we give it to them again, we’re fools.

For most applications, it fells like peak laziness to me. I also don't get why some people treat it like a search engine.
View on Reddit #72309729

YodaWattsLee@reddit

People treat it like a search engine because Google started including AI overviews that teach people to use it as a search engine.

AI is fine in and of itself - I use it daily to help me save time on mundane and low priority tasks, allowing me to focus more of my time on the things that actually matter. It's allowed me to game plan and scope projects with a greater sense of efficiency and has helped me think outside of the box when I needed an out of the box solution. I know it's limitations, I don't expect it to do my job or think for me, and the information it spits out is always fact checked by me before implementing any solution into a production environment. Anyone who thinks it's a genie rightfully deserves to have their lives wrecked by it, imo. It's no different than responsible gun ownership - a well trained, well educated user can effectively use this tool to better their lives, while those who are reckless with that same tool cam cause real harm. Now, that said, I absolutely hate the way data centers are being subsidized by tax payers in terms of electricity use, the absolute destruction of the electronic ecosystem over the past 2 months (RAM prices are now 3x what they were in August, for example), and how catastrophicly bad the infrastructure behind AI is to the environment. There's plenty to hate about the way AI is implemented, but at the end of the day, it's a tool, and it's looking like it will be a necessary one for the immediate future. I learned long ago not to fight change, and it's served me well so far.

I hate what A.I. has become. I love it in video games, but hate the A.I. created by Google, meta, Twitter, and other information repositories/exploiters. I hate when it's used for basically anything that's important or can be used against the public or individual.

These two things kind of sum up my thoughts:  https://malwaretech.com/2025/08/every-reason-why-i-hate-ai.html https://pluralistic.net/2025/09/27/econopocalypse/#subprime-intelligence > the AI bubble is driven by monopolists who've conquered their markets and have no more growth potential, who are desperate to convince investors that they can continue to grow by moving into some other sector, e.g. "pivot to video," crypto, blockchain, NFTs, AI, and now "super-intelligence." Further: the topline growth that AI companies are selling comes from replacing most workers with AI, and re-tasking the surviving workers as AI babysitters ("humans in the loop"), which won't work. Finally: AI cannot do your job, but an AI salesman can 100% convince your boss to fire you and replace you with an AI that can't do your job, and when the bubble bursts, the money-hemorrhaging "foundation models" will be shut off and we'll lose the AI that can't do your job, and you will be long gone, retrained or retired or "discouraged" and out of the labor market, and no one will do your job. AI is the asbestos we are shoveling into the walls of our society and our descendants will be digging it out for generations

Same here. I really wish the US government would put some guard rails into place, but we all know that’s not going to happen.

China is not going to put up guard rails. If we do that we will be left behind technologically.
View on Reddit #72310327

The time to put guard rails in place was 20 years ago. Anything we do now is just to look good and make people who don't understand what is happening feel better.

I don’t think it matters - Pandoras Box has been opened. Other countries are not going to regulate it. Also the line between “AI” and “ML” is easy to blur. I think we need to be asking more philosophical questions - like what does a “post-work” society even look like?
View on Reddit #72310188

View on Reddit #72310287

Turbowookie79@reddit

People that resist change historically don’t fair well when it inevitably happens. Whether you like it or not you should embrace it because it’s going to take over everything and you’ll be left behind. Has happened many times throughout history, plenty of boomers refused to learn computers and have been relentlessly ridiculed.

There is AI and then there is AI. Generative AI is dangerously. I think there are steps that need to be taken to ensure AI photos, scenes, videos are clearly identifiable as AI and heavy fines when AI is used and passed off as not. However, machine learning, LLM, things that make life easier should be allowed to advance in a way that promotes innovation. A lot of my hobbies and to an extent my job rely on AI. These type of calculations based AI tools are great. That said, I also had a really fun conversation with my Alexa a couple of nights ago.

It has limited uses.  Everything has to be validated if you use it.  I use it at work to teach me things.  Currently leveled up my SQL skills, and it was quite nice.   I just put in sample data with desired outcome and it taught me a function I was struggling to find online.  I always make it then explain the entire thing and why it works.  All that said, I really worry about people using it who lack any sense that it needs to be validated.  We already have enough misinformation, and this will exacerbate the problem.  I also worry about people outsourcing their brain to it.   I think between general social media/smartphone usage and AI, the people who have attention spans and can think will have a huge advantage in life.

View on Reddit #72309989

FatReverend@reddit

I also detest it. I can see how in certain scientific circles it would be a useful tool, provided used responsibly. But I do not believe it should be accessible by the public. I do not think it's actually more useful than search engines, predictive text and just everyday software before it already was.  Yes it can help you cheat and fake things by just typing in a sentence, but I consider that a hindrance to humanity, not a useful tool for it.  I want to live in a world where I can believe what I see with my own eyes and here with my own ears. I want to live in a world where art is made by people and the worst jobs that we don't want to do are the ones automated. AI has made that world a place for which I'm mourn.

It has its place, but I'm tired of it being shoehorned into everything. I don't want AI to help me with search results. I want search results. I don't want anything Meta AI. I just want to see the people and groups I follow, but Zuck is determined to make fetch happen there. BTW, add -ai to the end of any Google search usually works.
