Ever have a sudden realization about something you have seen your entire life and just never put 2+2 together? I have somehow, thus far, just thought the name of this band was 4 random letters, and am only now realizing that it is "In excess." I likely first heard the band before I knew the word excess. I am clearly not a fan, and have not really thought about the band since I was a kid, but still shaking my head.
It's kind of amazing looking at their earlier stuff how Hutchence managed to transform from a slightly awkward Mick Jagger knockoff to the actual sexiest man on the planet. Really just an astonishing glowup
For years I always dismissed them as a pretty boy dance band, largely because my friend's two older sisters were obsessed with Michael Hutchence and I was a surly little metal head. As years have gone on, however, I've come to realize that INXS was amazing. This album, in particular, but just about everything they did was so tasty. Andrew Farriss is (and Michael Hutchence was) a great songwriter.
They finally got a nom for the hall of fame this year, but they weren't selected. Glad to see they at least got the nod. Maybe next year. I think they deserve to be in there.
That's kind of the way it goes in the entertainment industry, novelty is not easily maintained and growth is not often encouraged
Hutchence seemed like a Jim Morrison kind of character for the '85-'95 window of time- Burned his candle at both ends, just to be twice as bright for half as long

The crowd in this one is insane. I really love the guitar sound Farriss has on all their songs. It is so hardcore 80's but in a very unique way.

Everyone loved/loves Kick.
Try any of the others like Shabooh Shabooh or The Swing or Listen Like Thieves if you get the chance.
Their whole catalog is solid.

My older brother and I used to randomly do the call and response from “I Need You Tonight”, much to the ire of our parents.
casually walking through grocery store Me: How do ya feel? Bro: I’M LONELAAAAAY! Me: And what do ya think? Bro: CAN’T THINK AT ALL!
Man, I loved that song so much and it always brings back great memories.

I went to an INXS concert on the day Kurt Cobain killed himself.
Anyone want to guess which of their hits they did NOT play?

Don't ask me what you know is true.
Seriously.. Stop asking! Reeeeee

I seem to remember this and their other major hit "I need you tonight" being played at the roller rink a lot.

Lol I knew without clicking what video this would be, from his curly proto-mullet phase.

The Jim Morrison look > the Mick Jagger look.

They were huge until Hutchence died, then they did the reality show thing and were huge again for a minute.

Obviously a great band as a whole. Hutchins was such a magnetically sexy man too though -all languid swagger and dangerous charm..
A natural restrained cool in buckets and a wry knowing / raised eyebrow at the at the whole thing.
Great band, brilliant frontman.
