How do i make friends in my 20’s?

Hi sorry I'm late to the party but I've got some excellent tips and tricks for you if you're looking to make some friends.  The first option is a classic and it's a classic for a reason. It's cheap, it's abundant and it's perfect for a beginner. That's right, I'm talking about wood. It's a great material to get yourself stuck in but it does have it's drawbacks. One is that it can require a lot of specialist tools and it can be difficult to use carpentry alone. Consider specialising in wood carving if you like wood as it allows for finer detail when making friends.  Your next option is clay. Now clay does offer a lot more flexibility in design right off the bat without having to specialise however it's a one and done. Once you've fired your buddy up, you're stuck with it. If he's a little too fat to go running, then nothing you can do. You can make another one or destroy it and start again but that's highly unethical and people probably won't want to be your friend if you treat them like that! Finally we have stone. Stone is great but again requires a bit of a time investment to get good at carving. But a friend from stone really is a friend for life. Like wood there is the option for some customisation; you aren't fully locked in and can make some minor tweaks if your friend isn't to your liking.  There are loads of materials and methods out there though, so feel free to experiment. Those are just some of the most commonly used and recommended for beginners. Best of luck!

Should I be paid for a 4 hour "trial shift" at a local garage?

It's entirely up to you if you wanna do it. I've had a trial shift before and it landed me a job that I was at for two years. For me 4 hours unpaid work at a job I'd never done before in order to secure that job was a no brainer. I'd have been stupid not to. If I didn't take the shift then sure maybe I'd have gotten 4 hours paid labour somewhere else but it also definitely wasn't worth declining it and staying out of work for 2, 3, 4 or however many more weeks it was. I'd rather get paid 4 hours doing nothing if it prevents me spending another 2 weeks or months getting no money.

What’s a full-time job that I can get almost immediately?

Very normal, they're ridiculous. There's a place called Guiting Power and another called Prickwillow. Not laughing at them would be weird, they're absolutely ridiculous. We have a place in Wales called llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychgerwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogoch.  It's intentionally over the top

On my feet all day. What are the best comfy shoes to wear?

I used to have a job where I was walking around on hard concrete all day and I found trainers that are designed for trail running (iirc) to be excellent. They're comfy, lightweight and incredibly durable. I did about 2000km in a year in them and I still have them. They are falling apart now but they distance they covered was incredible.

Should you always bring a token gift for the host?

Nearby_Impact6708@reddit

It really depends on the group and what you're doing and what expectations are amongst the group. Usually people do chat about these things beforehand and if it hasn't been explicitly explained then people will usually say oh by the way, when we get together we bring some food to help the host. No problem you didn't this time but it would be nice if next time you bring something.  I don't think you did anything wrong as from the sounds of it the norm in your friend group is *not* to do this. It seems a bit unfair for her to get upset when she hasn't made it clear that she isn't happy with the current norm, as that's what people are gonna revert to unless told otherwise.

If you had never heard a Scouse accent before and didn't know where it came from, would you think it was British or somewhere else entirely?

What do I do about noisy neighbour?

Download the noise app and use that to take and send recordings to the council/ your landlord. Make as many as possible.  I had a noisy neighbour and if they're the type that won't listen then get ready for a long battle. It's not easy to kick someone out but the more evidence and records you have the better.  Don't bother calling the police unless it spills over into something more serious, they can't do anything but if it escalates you can log the incidents every time, i.e if they start threatening you or targeting you. This helps build up a case against them. I'd also speak to the council - they have noise officers who can come round and have the power to give out fines and remove equipment. They will likely ask you to fill a form out giving information on the time and date of noise as well.  Sorry you're going through this, I had some awful neighbours in the past and it was absolute hell. The rest of us pulled together though and we did get them kicked out. One other thing I did was make my local MP aware of what was going on and that helped put pressure on the housing association to do something about it.

What are the smart-arse things people should stop saying now?

I'm quite happy to let people say whatever they wanna say tbh If someone is constantly doing stuff like that then I'll just not hang around with them, I wouldn't ask them to stop. I can't imagine saying things like that all the time will make them very popular so it's something that's gonna affect them way more than me 🤷

I'd go for it and see how you get on. If you like it you've found you can go on trips away by yourself and have fun and if you don't well you've still learned something about yourself 😀

Why do people call the emergency services after killing someone?

Sometimes it's because they think they are clever enough to manipulate the narrative. It just doesn't cross their mind that the police deal with people like this on a regular basis and its blindingly obvious what they're doing

Do you immediately notice American spelling - and what do you think about it?

I notice it if I specifically look out for it but otherwise I really don't care how people spell  I just don't see how it's annoying personally but I probably have little pet peeves that are equally baffling to those who are annoyed by it so it all balances out

Not an alcoholic but.... What am I ?

Nearby_Impact6708@reddit

Why don't you try going to somewhere like AA and seeing if you can relate to them? If you can relate to how other alcoholics feel and behave around alcohol that may give you some insight into your own relationship with alcohol. I didn't realise I was an alcoholic until I tried to stop. It was then I realised my drinking wasn't normal and the only people who understood why I drank the way I drank was other alcoholics.  In my experience people who don't have alcohol problems, the thought of having an alcohol problem doesn't cross their mind. They can have a glass of wine with food, not finish it and then not think about alcohol for a month. If that was me, all I'd be able to think about was my next drink and how I could continue drinking. The thought of having just one would repulse me, it just wasn't possible for me to have one and then forget about alcohol and towards the end i couldn't get through a day without it. My drinking didn't start with everyday drinking and most alcoholics don't, it's a slow gradual descent into madness. So slow, they often don't realise that they fell into addiction months or years ago.

What tattoos do you have if any and what do you think of tattoos in the workplace?

I have arms and chest done and I don't care about tattoos in the workplace unsurprisingly I had a job interview the other day with one on display and I didn't think twice about it, in fact I didn't even realise till after it finished. It clearly didn't bother the interviewer either

What's stopping you guys from just taking over a castle?

The thing that's stopping me from taking over a castle is because fuck that why would I want to do that?! Effort, I'm happy where I am and there's no risk of being shot and I have electricity and my cat and all that  Interesting question but it's not something I would ever think to do paha  No idea what the police would do either, I wonder if it's something they've considered 🤣

Do you eat rice with a spoon or fork?

Nearby_Impact6708@reddit

A fork. He is correct - he's referring to perhaps the single most successful policy the UK has ever implemented which is "All UK citizens must eat rice with a fork, except for u/floccinaucinilli" We all follow this policy very strictly and I for one am relieved to hear you are following policy and not using a fork. If one person deviates then sadly the entire policy will fall apart, followed shortly by the entirety of the UK. Please don't because if the UK falls then this will have a knock on effect on places like France etc and before we know it the world will be over.

I don't know about the legality but I highly doubt they're gonna be going to prison or able to be sued for this At best there may be some GDPR issues but your employer is allowed to ask other people for information; they wouldn't be breaking GDPR by asking, the person supplying the information would

How did both pubs and TV used to be thriving?

Posted by sudwald@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 50 comments

I feel like back then there weren't as many options for most people to spend in their free time and both the pub and the TV were huge parts of the culture at the time. Both of them were much more mainstream and accepted whereas today watching too much TV or spending too much time down the pub tend to be frowned upon a lot more

What has happened to the quality of Apples in the UK?

Posted by Knightartist86@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 203 comments

Nearby_Impact6708@reddit

Yeah I've noticed to the point I don't really buy apples anymore 😭 They just got more and more inconsistent, same reasons as you've described - skin soft and insides mushy. I feel like they haven't been stored at the right temperature; I've noticed apples left in the warm can end up similar. I haven't bought pink ladies for a while because they're expensive so I don't know if they are suffering the same issues, but I always found them to be really hardy, even when bruised the insides remain surprisingly intact. Might be worth a try, they're really nice but they are a bit sharper but still pretty sweet iirc. I've noticed this across the board in different supermarkets

What happens if you cannot find a job?

It's very dependent on the specifics of your circumstances. Best bet is to go to your local council building where they deal with these things and speak to them. They'll be able to tell you exactly what help is available. They generally much prefer preventing people from being homeless than letting them slip into it before helping them. Sometimes there is nothing they can do though and services vary from local area to local area in relation to homelessness. For what it's worth I've been homeless and worked for services myself. It is practically unheard of for people in your situation to end up going through the homeless system. I'm not saying it doesn't happen at all but most people end up homeless because they have several serious issues going on, not because they're temporarily out of work
