How safe is Saudi/Oman Airspace for taking flights

Posted by airfyer_avif@reddit | aviation | View on Reddit | 4 comments

Flight prices will have shot up because of supply/demand. I’m confident Saudi Arabia would close their airspace if there is any chance that missiles will enter, or that flights crossing would be put at risk

Are civilian flights that had a scheduled fuel stop over still common nowadays?

Posted by dq689@reddit | aviation | View on Reddit | 88 comments

Is it necessary for flights to be stacked in same line? Why can't there be, for example, a 5k feet horizontal separation on top on whatever vertical separation is there in the video?

That’s because there is an extra layer of flight planning management through the Route Availability Document (RAD). While FRA theoretically allows airlines to fly between whichever points they want to, in reality they have to follow the rules set out in the RAD, meaning that sometimes the available paths mirror that of the preceding route structure.

Any landing you can walk away from is a good one. Any landing that doesn’t result in your decapitation by rotor blades is an even better one.

Flight Path Question

The flight will be using either a published procedure (STAR/approach procedure) or ATC vectors. Depending on a number of factors these procedures can be quite direct or take flights round the houses.

why are there no airways over Lithuania??

Posted by TwujZnajomy27@reddit | aviation | View on Reddit | 87 comments

Mendeth@reddit

It has free route within Lithuanian airspace, but the ‘open’ border with Poland is either not operational or not fully. This means you have to it is required to file a point on the border between Poland and Lithuania, while in the future only an entry point into Poland and an exit point in Lithuania (or beyond) will suffice.

Pretty much all of Europe has FRA now, with only a couple of ACCs in France, Germany and parts of the UK yet to (fully) implement it.

There are still flight planning restrictions. The traditional routes may have disappeared but traffic flows are maintained in a more flexible manner.

It’s completely free route (FRA). They got rid of the routes last year or earlier this year IIRC. Hungary is also route-less.
