When I started high school the head teacher still used to smoke in his office (90s). Whilst bollocking one of the naughty kids the headmaster got called away, the kid emptied the ashtray full of half smoked cigs into his school bag and took them all for the smokers at lunch time, legendary.

Do you talk to people at your gym?

Posted by Odd-Paramedic-3826@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 44 comments

Cunthbert@reddit

I do a little bit. My gym is a small independent gym so it’s always the same old faces. I tend to just focus on training but I’m pleasant and chat when people approach me. Others really see it as a place to socialise and make friends, which is good for them.

why are airports in the UK pretty average/poor?

Posted by Desperate-Drawer-572@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 80 comments

Cunthbert@reddit

Yeah, I travel to schipol a fair bit and it always feels nice arriving. Feels so much more “premium” and clean than uk airports. The train then taking 15 minutes to the centre is great.

Do you still see Wetherspoons food as a “bargain”?

Posted by BeneficialJuice2878@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 722 comments

Cunthbert@reddit

I think cheap is a better word instead of bargain nowadays. It’s still edible if you pick the right stuff, and you can’t really moan about the drinks prices, however there’s no doubting it’s not as good as it once was.

Why are people so fixated on me not drinking alcohol? 38F Brit

Posted by emiliadaffodil@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 128 comments

Cunthbert@reddit

Honestly I don’t think it’s as deep as people make out. I enjoy a drink, but also I’ll go extend periods of not drinking. It’s annoying when I’m not drinking and people get funny about it and encourage me to drink, however I’m also guilty of encouraging people to drink myself in the past. I think basically people can be less “fun” and less inhibited when they aren’t drinking, so they aren’t as fun to be around and don’t join in with the party or fun when they are sober. I know people don’t have to have a drink to have fun, but also I know I’m quite different when I’m sober vs when I’ve had a couple of drinks, I’m a lot more social and more likely to dance, sing and have fun, and I’d say a lot of people are similar. Put it this way if I was my friend on a night out I’d 100% pick drinking me over sober me. Whilst I agree that people shouldn’t be pressured or mocked for not drinking, you have to realise drinking can be very fun, and people have been drinking in cultures for thousands of years, so it is a behaviour that is normal to do.

How do you stop comparing your life to others on social media?

Posted by Jealous-Lake5700@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 120 comments

Cunthbert@reddit

People can curate a life and a persona on social media that isn’t who they actually are, in fact from my experience, the more they post stuff the more chance that it’s actually for “show”. An example is a person I know acts like they are mega fit and a super fast runner. In reality they constantly stop on their runs, pause their watch and only post their moving time instead of total time (that 10k took them an hour and a half instead of 50 minutes). They also act like they are very knowledgeable about weight lifting, but when a friend went to the gym with them it turns it they had no idea what they were doing. Don’t even get me started on their relationships lmao. The worse part is I think they now actually believe the persona they have created on social media. I’m not waffling on but I think it’s a genuine issue that people have nowadays, in the past people got respect and admiration for being dedicated and achieving things, nowadays you can get that same buzz from a social media presence that depicts you like that, when in fact it is all smoke & mirrors. Anyway yeah, take people’s social media with a pinch of salt, because most of the time people who are truly happy, don’t feel the need to blast their lives online.

Honest question - why do people take calls on speaker phone in public?

Posted by Murky-Union552@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 38 comments

Cunthbert@reddit

Maybe it’s main character syndrome, and they think that they look impressive. I don’t know how they do it in all honesty, I don’t even like talking on the phone in front of anyone, like if I receive a phone call I leave the room to take it.

How much do you personally disagree or agree with the heuristic/mentality "work and friends should be separate"?

Posted by gintokireddit@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 153 comments

Cunthbert@reddit

It’s changed a lot over the years. When I was in my late teens and twenties work was much more social, if someone was leaving who’d been there a while nearly everyone in the department went out including the managers. Now because there’s a big facade of professionalism nobody wants to let their guard down so everyone isn’t themselves at work, sad really
