Have you gotten used to progressive lenses or just given up?

Comprehensive_End751@reddit

It didn’t take me too long to get used to them. I was going to Thailand so I asked for contact lenses so I didn’t have to stuff around with glasses. Was able to get distance in one eye and reading in the other. Only took one day to get used to them. Just felt like I was trying to do hard maths all day. I swap between them depending on what im doing that day

Do you have any debt?

Mortgage only. My Dad died last month though so it’s getting a chunk paid off as soon as I’ve finished the paperwork for probate and split it with my brother. Hubby is medically discharged on a military pension and I’m his carer and getting a pension for that so we’re already set up retirement wise.

Would u pick your dad again…

I am only an alcoholic on holiday. Thailand earlier this year and a cruise at the end of the year. I can go years without drinking but I think I’ve earned being able to drink a few bucket or fishbowl cocktails on holiday for making it this far

I’m in Australia so I’m sure we will be one of the last to get the testing. I’m trying to mitigate it with a low carb lifestyle due to the research pointing to it being “Type 3 diabetes”. I have that lifestyle anyway due to some other health issues anyway

I’ve been carnivore this time for over 2 years. Went to Thailand a couple of months ago and could only do carnivorish as so much of the meat has soy sauce and I can’t eat gluten. It’s harder when you cycle in and out of it. Oxalate dumping made me quit twice before. Twenty plus times of going #2 that felt like shitting glass shards stopped me before. I had to wean off oxalates gradually so I could function. This time it’s the histamine dumping that’s causing that but I’ve finally slowed down. It’s all fun and games till you can’t stand up, move around or walk or you have to make a mad dash to the toilet.

And so it begins. I tripped over my dog and broke my hip. Tomorrow is my 59th birthday and I’m in the hospital.

Yeah it sucks. Just found out about MCAS recently and trying to help that. I’ve got Hashimotos as well. I’ve got all the digestive ones like diverticulosis, IBS, reflux etc. Trying my best to live my best life. Now at least I’ve gotten answers to what the heck is wrong with me and it all falls under the same umbrella so that’s something at least. Carnivore, red light therapy, electrolytes, supplements, appropriate exercise and more just so I can live a good life

And so it begins. I tripped over my dog and broke my hip. Tomorrow is my 59th birthday and I’m in the hospital.

3 times this year. We did 3 weeks in Thailand already. Looking to go back and do another 2 weeks Oct/Nov. Got a 7 days cruise to South Pacific end of November. Next year I’ve got another cruise booked and looking at going to New Zealand and hiring an RV and doing the North Island. Might fit in another holiday if I can eBay off a bunch of stuff we don’t need.

Just recently caught up again via messenger chat. After a couple of chats I’m kind of avoiding him. He’s got a very obvious alcohol problem, going blind, very needy and back living with his Mother. I’m married almost 30 years with children and we have fun travelling a couple of times a year. I think I’ve just got a very different life than he has. I also got the impression he would hook up with me if given the chance and that’s not something I’m interested in.

They had me in the first half!

My husband has a DVA gold card and gets cleaning and gardening. I’ll get it if he dies first. He’s already on a DVA pension and I’m getting one as his carer. Trying to sell off stuff we don’t need and using it to travel as much as possible whilst we can enjoy it. Going to stay on our property and get help which we’re entitled to and not move out till we’re in coffins. So declutter, travel and have fun and kick it when it’s time.

Is 16-year-old you proud of you today?

16 year old me would be flabbergasted. I always wondered if someone would actually want to marry me or have children - that lovely low self esteem I had ingrained into me doubted I was worthy enough. I’m coming up to my 30th wedding anniversary this year and have 3 bio kids and a bonus. I didn’t know if I could ever own a house and we live on 5 acres in Queensland. I loved animals and wished for a farm and that’s what we have. The idea of traveling was completely alien and we just came back from 3 weeks in Thailand with a cruise at the end of the year and another Thailand trip in the works. Did I have a career - no. I felt raising my children was part of my reason to be here and I did that and homeschooled them. I love living in nature with our animals and growing food. 16 year old me would be happy that things worked out good in the end after all the garbage wee had to put up with to get here

Fancy fuckers getting a whole ass key. We had to hope our parents remembered to leave the back door open. If not we were stuck outside till they came home sometimes well after dark and when it was Summer and 40 plus degrees Celsius that really sucked. My father, being a complete tight ass, eventually the back door ended up falling apart (was really meant to be an internal door) and we were able to get our arms between the glass and “wood” and open it.

Was it just me or did we not go on epic vacations as kids?

Posted by dryverjohn@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 1073 comments

Comprehensive_End751@reddit

We had 2 family “vacations” growing up. My Dad bought an old camper van for all the trips we would have when I was 8. We went on a trip to the Murray River for a week so he could fish when I was 10. We went on a trip to Port Victoria when I was 15 so my Dad could shoot rabbits. Both trips were the most basic, cheap trips you could take and they sucked. No pocket money, no treats, no seeing the sights unless you could walk there on your own. We went to Japan this year with our oldest and youngest - Bali the year before. Next year we’re going to Thailand and a South Pacific cruise with the youngest. In 2027 I’ve booked Papua New Guinea and I’m planning a 2 week holiday and hiring an RV to drive around the North Island of New Zealand. We’ve got a nice off-road caravan for short trips around Australia. My Dad is currently sitting in a nursing home with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Never did get around to buying that tinny he wanted. My Mum died of a stroke a couple of years ago. Better to have fun whilst you can.

That’s not a hobby. I have a medium sized tub full of different coloured shoe polishes, exotic leather creams, waterproofed, stretching spray, barge cement, cloths, brushes etc. I also have a medium sized tub full of leather paints, brushes etc for customising my shoes and boots. My daughter knows if she needs something for her shoes it’s likely I have it. She was in the cadets though so she knows how to polish her boots

My brother is 20 months younger than me. He’s the golden child who grew up to be an abusive (both animals and humans), entitled, nasty twat. I wouldn’t piss on him if he was on fire. He ended up having kids unfortunately so I do worry about those boys but there’s nothing I can do about that. If he needed an organ would I give it to him? Not a chance. The likely reason why he’d need it would be all the drugs he got into so he wouldn’t have my sympathy.

I think you’re doing shit wrong. My parents didn’t care if we were running around past midnight as long as we left them alone when we were at family friends houses. No one is going that route with me. I eat carnivore so my blood pressure is good. Just got back from 2.5 weeks in Japan and planning Thailand in 6 months. Husband is 55, I’m 53. Over 10, almost 11 years ago he got medically discharged at the same time I had my daughter 15 weeks premature. My daughter survived and so did hubby (PTSD etc), I’m a carer for both of them. We’re currently on a 2 week holiday in Japan and we own a 5 acre property. It took time for him to get used to not working but we’ve gotten there and life is pretty good most of the time.

So I'm 53. Is it too late.

He probably doesn’t know what to do to change. I’ll tell you what we’ve done. I was bored so I planned some travel. We were due to leave March 2020 when all the lockdowns happened in Australia. I wasn’t going to be stopped. We traded in our car and got a bigger one and we bought an off grid caravan. We’ve been on a few adventures together along with our youngest. We’ve now finally gone overseas to Bali twice and had a ball. We’re going to Japan in just over 4 months with 2 of our daughters. I’ve also been working on my health which helps change your outlook. Traveling and doing things together can really help your marriage. My husband is a retired veteran with PTSD so it’s not easy but we will be celebrating our 30th anniversary next year.
