What music have you been introduced to from TV/Film that you’ve continued to enjoy?

Bit of an unusual one, but the theme to the first series of a TV show called Patriot was 'Train Song' by Vashti Bunyan. Not my thing at all, I'm a punk and metal fan mostly, but I just fell in love with that song and have explored more Vashti Bunyan since, big fan. This is the song: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U\_cZyavt06U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_cZyavt06U)

How did someone find my address!?

I do have one non-scam possibility I've not seen mentioned yet that happened to me a few months ago. I bought something from (I think) Vinted, and the seller sent it to me, all good. I then had a completely random pair of ear buds, fairly expensive, turn up a couple of weeks later and I had no idea why. Turns out the seller had accidentally reprinted my address label instead of the one they'd meant to, and sent me these ear buds by mistake. A few days later they contacted me when they realised, asked me to post them back - they paid the postage plus a fiver for my trouble - so it was all innocent and sorted out in the end. I guess just check if someone you've bought something else from has sent it by mistake.

Easiest way to understand the truth of this is to ask yourself: "Am I looking at people to see if they're on their own? And if they are, do you think they're weird?" The answer to both is almost certainly no, so why would anybody be looking at you? Just go for it.

I'm not personally on Facebook but that's how one of us found out he'd died, from people saying a few years later 'miss you bro' and all that on his page or as comments or however it works.

Another Wayne Rooney one, when stories came out about his penchant for allegedly paying for the services of ladies of... let's say advancing years, to the tune of whatever the 'can we have a referee' song is: "Does she take, does she take, does she take her teeth out first?"

Ah right, blimey, yeah none of that had crossed my mind at all. I think my mental image of how supermarket security works is probably quite out of date.

Yeah that's what surprises me, I thought the cost to the shop would be more prohibitive so they'd restrict it to expensive stuff but I guess maybe not. Fair play to whoever invented the system.

I don't know, I think if I was a thief I'd be more bothered about hidden/random tags as it could be literally any item that set it off. Though obviously if no staff appear when the alarm goes off it's moot anyway.

I bought a half leg of lamb in the same shop, and as you can imagine that was a lot more expensive than the chicken. I guess it's possible that was what set it off and there was simply a cock up with the technology, because I scanned it, bagged it, paid and had it on the receipt.

I thought the way these EAS tags work is they're active by default, but scanning them deactivates them (don't ask me how) and when deactivated they don't set the alarm off. That's what some video I watched earlier said anyway. It sounds plausible.

Going to the cinema has become incredibly difficult in the past few weeks. Is that the general feeling in the UK at the moment?

Posted by Crazy_Screen_5043@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 68 comments

C-i-d@reddit

It does seem worse the last couple of years, aye. Would be interesting to hear someone who talks in the cinema justify why they think it's OK. Generally I find asking someone politely but robustly to keep it down works, but then I'm a six foot bloke with a shaved head. And if the chat is coming from a few rows away you can't really get up to ask them to shut it so that can be a real pain in the hoop. Every cinema has a bit before the film asking people to turn their phones off. Some mention talking too, but maybe they need to make more of a point of that, to put talking on a par with phones.

Can you please provide some European long weekend destinations please?

Posted by Classic_Peasant@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 32 comments

Sofia in Bulgaria is a hugely underrated weekend destination. We went a couple of years ago in the middle of summer and Christ was it hot, but I imagine it would be beautiful in spring or autumn. Lovely outside euro-style restaurants and bars and all that. It's a big city but most of the things you'd want to see in a weekend are in the centre and easily walkable.

Men, do you have somewhere to escape and decompress from life that isn't the pub? If so, where?

I used to do the gym with music in my earphones to kind of pump me along, and I bloody hated it. Since I switched to audiobooks (or podcasts like yourself) it's so, so much less onerous. I'd almost go so far as to say I enjoy it these days, but I'm not mental.

This is going to be a pretty niche answer and it'll only work if you have the space and a couple of grand, but this summer in my small garden I replaced my shed with a shed/summerhouse combo. It means I have somewhere to sit that gets a lot of daylight (to combat any winter blues mainly), and I can be at home but have some time/space to myself. It's easy to get a little heater for when it's Baltic (you can probably get a solar panel for the roof to power it, though I've got it wired to the mains in a way I can unplug it totally so it doesn't burn down at night or something). If it's not far from the house and your wifi stretches far enough you can even work out there. It's 12ft by 4ft so doesn't take up much space at all. Cost about £1700 in all as I had to get a new concrete base under it, as well as the building itself which is just a flat-pack type thing that two people can put up in a few hours.

Best answer you'll get OP. Don't scrabble for practical solutions without giving yourself some time to get in a better headspace - much more likely then that however you try to move on will be a success. Good luck mate.

This triggered me so bad. For reasons unknown I stopped getting hangovers about eight years ago despite no change to my intake. Last Wednesday out of nowhere I had one of my worst ever. So to answer the question, my most recent cure was to still be throwing up at 7pm the next day, though what the fuck I was throwing up by that point is a mystery. I feel lighter now, maybe it was a kidney that had dissolved in there.
