I've never been to the cinema alone. I think I regret this. Still not too old to start I suppose. Have happily gone to museums alone both here and abroad. Allows you to go at your own pace. Mine tends to be quite slow as I like to look at things quite closely.

Depends on the venue, honestly. Museums, cafes, and usual public spaces are typically fine and you won’t be given a second glance. Bars and clubs may be riskier however. I’ve frequently been targeted (typically by those under the influence) even when minding my own business at these places

Enough of this stigmatising of people being alone. No, we're not odd at all. I have been to countless gigs alone, as well as air shows, foreign city breaks, cinemas, etc. Most of us don't feel the need to be in the company of other human beings who many can be downright annoying. To feel comfortable to go out by yourself without the need to be with other people is very liberating. Imagine staying indoors just because you have nobody to go out with.

Last thing I went to solo was a Dita von teese concert, and the lady that sat down next me to introduced herself and we got on like a house on fire for the whole night. This! It's so much easier just doing things by yourself than trying to involve other people in plans. Gigs and cinema aren't great for socialising anyway, it's not like you can have much of a conversation at either. Plus I can let myself go, and have a good sing-a-long, and jump about etc if there's no-one I know there!

Theres a guy on tiktok i really like Spin the Gig! Who attends and reviews random gigs. I think in most of his videos he goes by himself, and he always seems to have fun. I've also never watched it and thought he was weird going alone at all, nor do i think about it (until now). I use him as my inspo to do more things alone.

At a gig, people are looking at the stage, not at you. At the cinema, they are looking at the screen. At the museum, they are looking at the paintings. At the restaurant they are looking at their plate… As someone else said, the more you do activities on your own and the easiest it becomes.

I went to a gig alone for the first time last year due to usual gigmates mates bailing on me. Looking around the crowd I realised just how many other people seemed to have done the same. Between sets several guys stand to one side and stare at their phones with a beer, that's what I ended up doing. During the music you don't even notice, I usually get a bit separated from mates in the crowd anyway as I navigate around tall people. Would 100% do it again, a mate of mine that goes to a lot of gigs does it loads. Movies are even easier, my partner won't watch horror so if I go I go alone. I have once been drinking alone and felt very self conscious. I'm somewhat introverted so won't naturally strike up conversations. Meals out are fine but I'm more likely to get a takeaway and watch a movie at home

A few years ago, I really wanted to see one of my favourite bands, but none of my friends were interested. My wife and I have a disabled son, so we can't leave him, and arranging care is tough. I ended up going alone and really enjoyed it. Now, we each go and do stuff on our own to get a bit of headspace. I go to gigs and to the theatre. She goes to meet a friend overnight or to dinner with her sisters. When you're only responsible for your own needs, it's incredibly liberating. Have a great time, and remember, nobody cares if you're on your own or not. At a gig, you can't really tell who is with who anyway.

I went to a rodrigo y Gabriela gig years ago. I was younger and a lovely mother and son looked after me and it was fun. Honestly stuff I've missed out on as others said no. That's changed now. Theatre and cinema especially on weekdays and cocktail bars who know me so get nice chat and a drink. Last time went to an independent cinema, watched a great film, went upstairs to the bar, it was early pm on Friday, sun was out and music was playing down to the street below and I chatted about whiskey to the barman. Blissful.

First. The only advice id ever give anybody in life is. Never miss an opportunity to see your favourite band. You never know when they will stop touring. And no, ill usually be in the pits or chatting to strangers in the queue for a pint. I dont even think about how awkward I may or not be. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I don't go clubbing, but it's prevailing policy in a lot of places because lone men are more likely to approach other customers and cause issues. It shouldn't be too hard to find a group, though - either outright a socialising group (e.g. 'new in town'), or one that originates in something else like a hiking club.

I decided when I was 50 (51 now btw), I was going to make a year of it - book things that *I* wanted to do and if friends or family wanted to come along, then that was a bonus. I had one or two things booked a month, theatre tickets, gigs, that kind of thing - and not just local too - and some friends and family came with me to some things, but mainly it was just me on my own. It was AWESOME. For the first time in pretty much ever, I could do what I wanted, as I'm the type of person who puts others first - or should I say I put me last. IYKYK. It wasn't a particularly cheap thing to do, and it took a lot of time and effort to plan but it was a one off life experience and I'd definitely recommend doing it to your budget.

I go to gigs alone quite often and its been great meeting other groups of people, last gih I went to me and this groups kids swapped places at the barrier every couple of songs we created a sort of barrier around her to enjoy herself. If I had been with others it would have been in the middle or close to the back. So go do the thing and enjoy yourself.

Just go and do it. Cinema is often best alone if your tastes don't accord with those of ppl you know. Museums are FILLED with ppl going alone because it's easier to spend time contemplating exhibits when you don't feel pressure to talk about it or work out the pacing of the person(s) you go with. Dining - just today at lunch time I walked past a sushi place which was a combination of tables and train and all of the occupied booths were single diners. Nobody is wondering why you're doing something alone, and if you deprive yourself of an experience you would enjoy just because there is nobody to do it with you, it's just going to be your loss.

In terms of gigs, I am part of a group called the Solo Armada which formed after a bunch of us went to a 4 day indoor festival in London in 2017 all solo and ended up meeting each other and chatting and spending most of the festival with each other. That initial meeting of handful of people is now a Facebook group with over 8000 members - and whilst we as the original group are quite a close knit group of friends now, we still try to encourage people to go do things they enjoy and try to be approachable and welcoming for those who are on their own. From my own pov, about half of the people at my wedding were people from that group or people who I had met because I started to do more things like that. I can go to most places in the country for a gig now and know someone in the area. So long story short - go for it!

I go to a lot of gigs alone, I haven't really thought anything of it. If I look around, how do I know who is even on their own or with a group anyway if we are all stood there staring at a stage? If it is a hectic one in the past, we often lost each other at points anyway. Pubs I have killed time by having a quick pint on my own, or had one when meeting someone later, I haven't sat there cursing what a loser I am and don't *think* anyone around me was pointing and staring. Clubbing is a bit more of a social thing so can't imagine wanting to do that alone I guess.

I go alone to things all the time. Sometimes I chat to people, sometimes not. Either people are subtle in their judgement or they don't give a damn. Either way, I have more fun than I would if I was with someone who didn't like the activity I'm going to do. I go to loads of gigs, from 20 people in a room to a stadium shows and everything in between, and I go to 95% of them alone. People care about the. artist. Its only ever a bit awkward during set change, but that's it. Also regularly go to bars, pubs, cinemas, museums alone. The only one that is actually maybe a bit awkward is clubs, I think from a safety perspective. I've done it twice and my tip is to go to a club that has a strong theme, and therefore a sort of sense of community. In my case I went to pop punk/emo clubs, associated with gigs happening nearby - everyone has coming ground and they just love the music.

I go to see movies and exhibitions on my own when I get the chance, and have taken myself out to dinner when I’ve wanted to try a restaurant or cafe and just read my book in peace. I think gigs, shows and cinema are definitely okay to go alone. I like heavy rock music so I am usually in the crowd and normally end up chatting with people. I have been to the cinema alone as well. Me and my partner have different tastes so I usually just go to things alone and make temporary friends for a few hours. Once you start going to things by yourself you'll realise it's not a big deal. You could join some facebook groups for specific bands/interests as I have met up with people that way as well.

I often go to gigs (and films) on my own. It's a different experience and I do like to share things with others but if there's something I want to see I'll go regardless. As a guy it's harder to make friends with randoms while I'm out as I'm a bit conscious of how it will be received but it can happen generally if one isn't thinking about it too much. If it feels too awkward just standing there I can always check Instagram or whatever but I try not to. Going to pubs on my own would be weird I think unless I was eating. Museums I prefer going on my own as can move at my own pace.

I turned 30 a few years ago and promised myself I would do more, and stop waiting for others to be free. I'm the only single in my social circle and wouldn't go to events or places if I had no one to go with. It's been the best thing I have done for myself. I've been on 2 holidays and countless outings/day trips/mini breaks. I feel confident, proud of myself and best of all- I've seen and done things I wouldn't have dreamed of previously!!

Whatever could be wrong with being free spirited and independent? I think any “problem” with that is the oddity, actually. Don’t get me wrong, there have been a couple of restaurants that I’ve shied away from visiting solo if I’m being completely honest but as to going to see a band/concert/exhibition or visiting a pub or cafe etc. if I want to go then off I go, with or without company…

Personally for some of the things on your list like the cinema, I would prefer to be on my own. Also when Ive been to gigs and festivals etc I have never looked round the crowd and thought I wonder how many of these people are on their own cos I m too busy thinking yay band I like playing songs I like

I go to the cinema alone all the time, my son is 9 so I tend to have to leave him home with my husband while I go to more grown up films, and my friends all also have young kids so it's not always worth the hassle everyone hunting down childcare to go somewhere for a couple of hours where we can't even talk. I went to my first solo concert back in January and the only issue I had was worrying about walking to my hotel alone at night. Although I will say with both of these the toilet element is awkward, especially at the concert (if standing anyway)

Ive seen this sort of question quite often on here. Its not a bad thing, doing things alone. Sometimes going to these places on your own is good, no one to distract you from the experience. But also if youre going to a gig you'll probably meet like minded people and have a whale of a time.

It is the most normal thing in the world. Anyone who thinks it is "odd" has led a sheltered life and tbh I'm a bit sorry for them. I travel abroad, eat, see movies, go to pubs and bars, museums, art galleries blah blah blah solo all the time. It is a non issue.

I prefer doing everything by myself. Going for food, to gigs, the theatre, the gym. Everything. No one is going to be focusing on you, they'll be too busy having a good time which is something you should be doing, too. I would never pass judgement on anyone who turned up to a show by themselves, if anything, I'd think they were cool and confident as hell for putting themselves out there and doing something they want to do so much that they're willing to go on their own. I think more people should give it a go! Like yeah, going out with friends is fun, but I find I can really focus on the activity and enjoy myself way more when it's just me because I'm not having to monitor other people's moods or any potential stress over butting of heads etc. Have fun at your show, OP!

I go out on my own fairly often, to classical concerts, but also to see bands, and I'm sometimes in the pub on my own. I even recently celebrated a special anniversary on my own, and loved it. I'm late 50s, which may be significant.

I do it quite regularly. I used to work in hospitality so it was pretty normal to head out by yourself cos you’d know a ton of folk once you were out and it’s a habit that’s stayed even YEARS after leaving hospitality. I feel like I see just as many folk out by themselves than in groups these days. But I’m still a midweek bar fly after years of working weekends when I was younger. Not ideal when you work mon to fri lol You won’t be the only one doing it, so try not to worry and enjoy yourself

It doesn't even cross my mind either as a do-er or a watcher. Frequently have a beer or two on my own when out and about, and a meal alone is great - no sharing! Might as well wonder if it's ok to go to the supermarket or clothes shopping solo. Of course it's just....normal.
