U.k Cat owners, are your cats indoor, outdoor or combination?

In every house I've lived in, the neighbourhood cats have all been outdoor or combination cats, allowed out to roam around the streets. My last house was a good way out of the city, there was only a two way road, with maybe one car driving down it every ten-fifteen minutes or so. Cats were all over the joint. Chilling under bushes, on people's windowsills, running up and down trees, basically, they were outside. Where I live now, it is still a bit out of the city, but a lot closer than the last house, about a ten minute walk into the city. It's still the same, cats everywhere. I have recently learned that this is not normal and is actually seen as, at the least entitlement, at the most, straight up cat abuse. It seems that a lot of people consider cats to be a purely indoor pet, maybe with a catio or a harness for walks. I haven't heard this before, most of the cat owners I know, have combination indoor/outdoor cats, the only indoor cats being elderly/physically ill. Is this not the norm here in the u.k? I assume because there're more rural areas and cities aren't very big, most cats are purely outdoor or combination cats? I'd get it for cities having an indoor cat, but from what I can tell, the people who do own cats, they're mostly outdoor?
