What is a place in the UK that has bad reputation but is actually nice?

If the place is genuinely nice and just has a bad reputation, it's not going to be the people who live there that don't like it. When it comes to Liverpool its bad reputation is typically with people who haven't even been there.

>Yeah and a well trained dog of any breed off the lead is a ridiculously low amount of danger, don’t let your irrational fear make you make irrational arguments. Do dogs have number plates or something round your way, so we can look up some sort of "well trained" register, for this argument to even vaguely get off the ground? I certainly don't think it's a good argument, but for it to even get started we would need a simple visual way to know if a dog is so well behaved as to be safe, or not. And as you accepted as obvious earlier, a dangerous dog isn't being dangerous 100% of the time, so just looking at it isn't good enough. >The bloke on the lead probably doesn’t realise it’s a problem for people. I'm not sure if you think this is better. So the guy has a banned dog, and is completely oblivious to the fact that he should have it on a lead nevermind a muzzle, and you trust him to have a dog so well trained as to not cause any risk to anybody? >I don’t think phoning the police is dangerous I just don’t think it’s necessary when nothing has happened. Other than a crime being committed, of course. Which is pretty solidly in the police's wheelhouse. >You must never leave the house if you’re this scared. If you think moving on to personal attacks is your next avenue after you've had to accept that nuance exists, it's clear that even you think your argument is weak.

>My point is if you worry about all potential dangers Did I not ask nicely enough? I'm not going to reply again if you continue to conflate any amount of danger as equivalent to any other amount of danger. >In this situation, don’t you think he could have spoke to the dog walker before going the police? He could have asked the owner what breed it was, maybe it’s a legal American bulldog then he could google pictures and compare, he could have asked the bloke to put the dog on a lead and he goes yeah no problem and clips him on They could have, but why would they or why should they? If they had no problem putting the dog on a lead, it would already be on a lead. Otherwise they clearly have a problem with doing that, so much so that they're willing to break the law and risk both somebody getting hurt and them losing their dog in order not to. I wouldn't go ask somebody to put their gun or knife away, or their lion on a lead either. I value my safety too much. The benefit to me in them having it on a lead is smaller than the risk of life changing injuries or death if I'm right in assessing it as an XL bully. It seems that you think both dogs are guaranteed to be safe, but encounters with the police are guaranteed to be dangerous.

My comment is still right there for you to read if you like. I wasn't talking about the OPs dog when I said a "sausage puppy" either. I didn't see the OPs dog, I have no idea how big it was or what it might weigh.

I never said anything XL bully weighing 100kg. Feel free to read my comment and answer the question yourself if you'd like. But if you think my argument, which is that some things can be more dangerous than others, needs any help then I think it might be useful for you to answer the question for yourself.

>No of course not So could you explain, after you accept this as obvious, why is the fact that the otherwise illegal dog is currently not bothering anybody relevant? >however my house could also burn down or flood tonight due to something faulty but it’s very unlikely so I won’t lose sleep over it. Do you think OP has known the dog in question for years? What even is this line of thinking. >I’ll ask you a question, do you think all dogs when they’re behaving are a cause for concern and every dog off a lead should be a 101 call? No. I thought we had got to the point where you'd accepted that some things can be more dangerous than others. Can you catch up to that before you reply again please?

>Doing 60 in a 30 through a village is nowhere near the same as a man and his dog going for a walk and bothering no one. Only if you don't think things like XL bullys are dangerous and the risk is not a "fantasy". If you accept that they're dangerous then it's pretty similar. I suppose I can think of one other explanation, so let's get that cleared up first; do you think a dangerous dog is constantly being aggressive towards somebody? Like there's no time in it's entire life when a dangerous dog isn't "bothering" someone?

Most dogs in the UK are labradors so this is just r/peopleliveincities A complete lack of nuance is not how to convince people of anything. Do you think the danger from dogs is whether they bite in any way or not? Do you consider a nip from a sausage puppy the same as having your leg torn off by something weighing 100kg?

Thats the thing about an interview, you're trying to show the organisation that you're the best candidate. If you've got identical candidates and one dressed smartly and the other looked like they couldn't be arsed, I don't imagine anybody would pick the one who couldn't be arsed. >Particularly when they're probably being interviewed by people also working from home in casual clothes anyway In my experience, interviewers take video call interviews just as seriously as in person ones.

People that get the bus do you get up before the bus stops when you want to get off?

BuildingArmor@reddit

I don't even always sit down on the bus, I definitely get myself up and at the front, wherever appropriate, ready before it stops. I don't get the bus very often though, and that's how I handle the train so it's how I handle the bus.

As a Brit, do you think you swear too often?

Posted by Jezzaq94@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 277 comments

BuildingArmor@reddit

Not "too" often, no. I can only imagine swearing too often means you're actually swearing so much that you're not even making any point. I avoid swearing in work because I'm trying to make a good impression with everybody - even those who don't like swearing. But generally speaking it's just more words and they aren't hurtful attacks, they have no malice behind them, they're perfectly fine to use as appropriate.

In general, how is Paddington Bear viewed in the UK?

Posted by kuma44bear@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 417 comments

BuildingArmor@reddit

In my opinion it is a thing for kids, but at the same time it's not like Teletubbies or Paw Patrol that has almost no value for adults. So I wouldn't say it's *just* for kids even though it's not of much interest to me. I'm sure you've seen it, but Paddington met the late Queen as a part of the her Platinum Jubilee celebration: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-61692278 He's a beloved character, and arguably a national treasure.

I've never had to provide ID to walk into a pub, and I haven't had to provide ID to get served or get into a bar/club for years. I don't even know how it would be possible, because kids who are far too young to have ID are allowed in pubs.

What’s the most you’ve paid for an alcohol free beer in a pub?

Posted by tmr89@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 152 comments

BuildingArmor@reddit

The way to make alcohol free beer is to brew beer and then remove the alcohol. So it will naturally be more expensive because you're effectively doing the same process and then a process on top of that. I would imagine they're cheaper because of the reduced duty, or maybe even just the supermarkets understanding of what people are willing to pay for it.

You'll never be aware it's making your entire species extinct, the only ones who would know that would be whatever comes after humans. I'd probably say it's more sensible to record the landing of Godzilla than to say "well that's humanity dead, no point trying to do anything about it"

Why do so many people park right next to cars when there are tons of empty spaces?

Posted by Tough-Decision-7435@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 46 comments

BuildingArmor@reddit

Possibly because of whatever reason you chose to park where you did. I almost never find people have parked next to me when I get out of the supermarket, but I always park a bit of a walk away from the door so it's not in any real way a desirable location. The space right next to you, right next to the door, is not equivalent to the dozens of empty spaces down the other end of the car park on the other side of that muddy path.

Posted by Arlincornwall@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 249 comments

BuildingArmor@reddit

I think it's the nature of nuts and that airborne allergens are much more easily spread than things which needs direct contact. It's definitely rare, very rare, but something like shelling peanuts on a plane would be a lot more likely to cause a hazard to somebody with an airborne allergy than drinking a glass of milk or eating a cheese sandwich would. It's hard to find real data on it due to how rare it is though.

What is your opinion on dogs off the lead?

Posted by Inevitable-Aide684@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 192 comments

BuildingArmor@reddit

I almost always keep ours on a lead, his recall is fine but it isn't 100%. He only gets off in a specific area and goes back on if anyone turns up. I don't object to well trained dogs being off the lead though, those collies that look like they were in charge of the days itinerary. I do object to any dog that could win a fight against an average person being off lead though. No matter how well trained.
