How old do you have to be to know that cash transactions are a thing?

At my job (retail), folks have had to get their card out as their phone just wouldn’t work. Also, card machines do go down… server issues, wifi going offline. If either of them happen, what will you do?

If you won £100 million, how would you distribute it amongst friends and family, if at all?

Posted by PaddedValls@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1626 comments

BobIsBusy@reddit

I’d keep £30 million for myself. Set aside a further £10 million for family things (a come and go house, holidays for example). I’d give £5 million each to my siblings and dad. £1 million each for nieces and nephews. £3 million each for close cousins and aunties. The remaining would sit in a high interest bank account, with the interest distributed equally amongst everyone every month.

Ask yourself this: In 10 years, would you be happy being in the same situation? If the answer is no, you know what you need to do, sad as it is.

Many things in the UK are now completely digital, so when has something analogue tripped you up?

BobIsBusy@reddit

I work in retail and no, we don’t store any details for card payments, so it wouldn’t work. We do have transaction history which each receipt is attached to, hence why they’re needed.

You just won the euromillions jackpot. How are you going about quitting your job?

Posted by ObiWanKenobiNil@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 407 comments

BobIsBusy@reddit

Once everything is confirmed and the money is in my bank, I’d hand in my notice at work (they know I’m looking for another job anyway) and leave. Then I’d start thinking about how to give a few of my friends there a bit of money, to help them out of their situations.

You've just won £100k on a scratch card, what's the most boring thing you'd do with the money?

If I won, I’d hand in my notice the next day. If I was treating like crap in that time, I’d hand my stuff to the manager, grab my bag and leave lmao.

How would you spend the set for life jackpot?

BobIsBusy@reddit

Pay off my overdraft first. Then help my dad pay his off. I’d leave my job and probably travel for a couple months (US and Europe most likely), then figure out what to do with the money.

What would you buy or do if you won the lottery, but it wasn’t enough to “retire for life” (let’s say, equal to one year of your current salary)?

- Pay off my overdraft - Get my provisional license and book driving lessons - Book a holiday for my birthday next year - Put the rest into savings

How much do you have in your bank account the day before you get paid again?

Posted by Minimum-Platform518@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 812 comments

BobIsBusy@reddit

It varies. I get paid weekly too, so I shove the majority in savings after paying my board (live at home). I have a £500 overdraft, but I could pay it off today if I wanted to. Sometimes I’ll have £10 left, sometimes £40 etc. Depends on how often I’ve been out for a drink after work, if I’ve done a food shop, been anywhere etc.

1. Buy a house. 2. Set aside an emergency fund. 3. Dream holiday to Disney and Universal for 3-4 weeks. 4. Put the rest in NS&I fund, ISA, Stocks etc.

I work retail. We open at 10:30 on a Sunday, but open the door’s earlier as we need to put stuff out the front. People will peek in and look at us as we tidy around the shop. We just laugh as they think we’ll open the doors early for them as we’re in. We’ve had people pry open the doors after we close and ask if we’re still open. No, we are not, go away. We had one guy beg us to let him in after we brought down our rubbish pallets and the tills were being cashed up.

It’s not think 18 or 16 though, it’s think 25. If you look under 25, expect to get ID’d. If you don’t have ID, tough luck 🤷‍♀️. It’s not worth losing a job over not ID’ing someone…

I work in retail. Our tills are set up like [these,](https://i2-prod.staffordshire-live.co.uk/whats-on/food-drink/article7814281.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/0_121122OneShop_02jpeg.jpg) except but there’s a barrier behind the customer to ‘funnel’ people out. People will often queue up behind customers and try to hand me stuff when the previous customer hasn’t left my till. Please don’t do this, it’s rude and uncomfortable for us. :( I had one guy throw his items at me while a customer was still stood there. I looked at him like ‘wtf dude’. I’ve had people try to hand me their money before I’ve scanned the item (often £1). I’ve had to say “I just need to scan it first” and they look at me in shock. I swear it’s the first time some people have been shopping. Some people are like “I’ve got X of these” like I don’t know how to count lol. I’ve asked people for bags and they say no, they pay and they ask for a bag. Ugh.
