Totally agree!!! Everything at your fingertips, mostly without even needing to remove your hand from the wheel. The Subaru Loyale instrument cluster was very similar in that regard.

A lot of people on here are saying things like, “That’s fine, as long as I can connect my phone to listen to something.” I honestly don’t thing he’s talking about just getting rid of an AM/FM tuner but leaving a pre-amp, amplifier and speakers in the car. How much of a price difference is eliminating a radio tuner going to make? He’s talking about eliminating the entire sound system!!

The 240 Turbo Intercooler was a very cool car. The black graphics around the windows, chin spoiler, and “penta” wheels were subtle but effective visual improvements that gave the car understated gravitas and confidence. Confidence makes anything or anyone more attractive. The 2-dr coupe and wagon were versions were my favorites!

They went too far the minute they replaced any of the basic buttons/switches/knobs required for safe operation of your vehicle - fan speed, blower direction (e.g., windshield, cabin, footwells), temperature, rear window defroster, radio power/volume, tuning, interior lights.

Honestly, I don't know what this car is ( without the model and the brand )

What’s the new trend coming after crossovers/SUVs?

Posted by F150regularcab@reddit | Autos | View on Reddit | 114 comments

Interesting idea, but doesn’t it seem more likely that the legacy automakers will be able to recapture that market more quickly and easily given their resources and infrastructure? Either that or they’ll partner with or snap up one of the startups and leverage them to do it for them? Not saying you’re wrong, I just find it hard to believe that the big US automakers will just give that segment away. I’m also not saying I wouldn’t want new blood in the US auto industry. I find it really sad that their lineups are so truck/SUV focused and true innovation is so lacking.

Look up what a torque converter is, which used to be how an automatic transmission connected to the engine output shaft. In addition to slow shifting speeds of old automatic transmissions, the torque converter used to lose 5-10% of the engine’s horsepower due to mechanical inefficiency.

Right there with you, man. My first car was a tan German-made 1980 4-door with matching vinyl interior. I drove the crap out of that thing! Such a fun car!! When I went to college I sold it to someone who drove it until it died like 6 years later. A freakin’ cockroach of a car! When I graduated a few years later I bought a black ‘83 GTI for $500. It only had 60k miles on it, but it had been sitting for a while and needed a fair amount of work, which I did that summer and sold it at a profit a few months later. I’d love a chance to drive one of those again.

GM Mary Barra sells 40% of her shares

You’re still only talking anecdotally about people you know, who are very unlikely to be a good representative sample. Allow myself to be more precise. My issue is with people receiving a significant portion or the majority of their compensation as equity rather than salary. Yes, some companies do grant some mid and even lower level employees stock, but typically only as a very small percentage of overall compensation and with a vesting schedule of a few years. Hardly life-changing if the company has a good year. A quick Google search shows around 20% of US workers receive equity as part of their compensation. “Around 18% to 23% of US private-sector workers have some form of company stock or equity as part of their compensation. However, the proportion for whom stock is a "significant" part of their pay is much smaller and heavily concentrated among executives and high-skilled employees. ”

The only way it would be better for workers is if they received stock grants as well. The idea that it incentivizes leadership to make the best decisions for the long-term good of the company sounds good in theory, but doesn’t seem to actually play out that way, because they end up being too focused on quarterly numbers and stock price, which is not always aligned with the long-term health of the company. I actually think bonuses compensation would be a better incentive because its discretionary nature can involve more nuanced metrics, that may not always align with what the markets want or expect.

Fair point re: them being taxed as income. Notwithstanding that, I have 2 big issues with the practice: * It should be made available to all employees and not reserved solely for senior management; similar to 401k requirements. * It seems to incentivize corporate raider style leadership that focuses on short-term metrics rather than long-term vision. Ultimately, I just think executive compensation is obscene.

Stock as compensation has been abused and ought to be reigned in. There are too many ways to game the system in order to pump and dump. If a CEO. Relieves in what they’re doing and want to benefit from appreciation, they should have to buy it on the open market with post-tax salary dollars.
