My ass gets kind of sore after 100 miles. What kind of cushions are you all using?

I do Uber and my boney ass gets sore. I'm using a cushion not but it sucks. I'm wondering if any of you have the same problem and have the solution. For the record the car is a 2013 prius v five.... so leather seats.
SizeableFowl@reddit
If your ass is sore after 100 miles either your seat is worn out and needs replaced or you have some goofy ass seating position.
TunakTun633@reddit
You could also just have a crap seat. I certainly appreciate the difference between a BMW and a Chevy seat for long term use.
Jarthos1234@reddit
Maybe you can answer this.
Why do people say “needs replaced” instead of “needs replacement”?
Been seeing that more often for some reason.
cgduncan@reddit
It's cutting out the middle bit "to be" infinitives are weird.
Needs to be replaced. Needs to be fixed. Needs to be opened.
Needs replaced. Needs fixed. Needs opened. Maybe it's cause I'm from the south and we're extra lazy with grammar, but they all sound fine to me lol
vetruviusdeshotacon@reddit
I feel like "saving" one letter from -ing to -ed isn't worth it
cgduncan@reddit
It's more about the syllables than the individual letters. "needs fixed" is more work to say than "needs fixing".
And the original example, "needs replacement" sounds even weirder. "Needs a replacement" is better to my ears, but that's one more syllable again.
So "needs replaced" is the simplest way to get the point across.
Jarthos1234@reddit
“Your tire needs replacement” sounds worse to you than “your tire needs fixed”? 😅
AdmiralZassman@reddit
Needs replaced sounds like someone barely speaks English
dontreadragebait@reddit
Have you never said “don’t” instead of “do not” in your life?
Jarthos1234@reddit
To be or not to be? THAT IS THE QUESTION.
Thee_Sinner@reddit
Is or ain’t?
waldocalrissian@reddit
Is you is or is you ain't my baby?
Logitech4873@reddit
I think it's mostly Americans that do this. They tend to have issues with the English language in general.
Jarthos1234@reddit
Reddit is mostly American so 🤷♂️
But also, it’s rude to slander any country so casually.
Logitech4873@reddit
In this day and age, it's always appropriate to slander the country hellbent on increasing fuel prices across the world.
SizeableFowl@reddit
The hilarity of an English person complaining about another country meddling in their economy.
Logitech4873@reddit
Who's the English person?
WheresTheSauce@reddit
You’re not a thoughtful person
Domtux@reddit
Maybe consider that hundreds of millions of people living in the country don't get to choose what their politicians do.
We really don't have much power as individuals here, look up the electoral college system and all.
PaulTheMerc@reddit
Just gotta put the news on for a few mins, the Americans do it themselves.
Interdimension@reddit
Jokes aside... as an American, I'm fairly certain that English schools do actually place far more emphasis on grammar and writing for a longer period of time than US schools do, based on my cursory research.
Obviously, English folks have their own slang/mannerisms and weird lingo, but I do kinda agree that the American education system really does kinda lack in teaching children proper grammar before they get to high school where a lot of it is already ingrained.
GinJuiceDjibouti@reddit
Why use lot word when few word do trick?
KungFuActionJesus5@reddit
It's a Midwesternism. Nasty business, but that's what it is.
SizeableFowl@reddit
Honestly, I have no idea and the first few times I’d seem/heard it used it bothered me too. I first saw it on a work order while I was working in a heavy equipment shop as an apprentice level mechanic, in spite of that it seems to have ingrained itself into my vocabulary. I guess it’s just a “close enough” thing that is slightly shorter? I’m not really sure though.
RunnerLuke357@reddit
My work 23 Tacoma begs to differ. 3 years old with 50K miles and every seating position possible does not help.
AllTearGasNoBreaks@reddit
Ha! One of the many reasons I sold my '17 when I bought it brand new after just 10 months of ownership. I dont know what people do to convince themselves they love Tacomas but it should be a case study.
SizeableFowl@reddit
I mean the Taco could be a case study on how to make something as unergonomic as physically possible. As much as people glaze their products I’ve always found them to have some of the least if not the absolute least comfortable interior spaces.
BassWingerC-137@reddit
It is a 13 year old car. Seat has likely seen better days.
SizeableFowl@reddit
Almost certainly, time for some racing buckets!
BassWingerC-137@reddit
"You think it's uncomfortable now, try this!"
SizeableFowl@reddit
Gotta pump those numbers up in this racket
tronaldrumptochina@reddit
have you considered purchasing a Rolls Royce Phantom as your uber vehicle instead? the planar suspension might help
theraf8100@reddit (OP)
I have. They don't allow older years that I can afford though.
benmarvin@reddit
Back in the day, all the cabbies had them seat covers made of wooden beads.
RiftHunter4@reddit
search "Seat Beads" on Amazon. Plenty of them still out there, it seems.
bigred83@reddit
Searched for that and ended up with anal beads. Would not recommend.
Competitive-Reach287@reddit
Seat beads are just the bulk purchase option.
theraf8100@reddit (OP)
Now I'm wondering what the largest boofed item was, but really don't want to know the answer.
xt1nct@reddit
Are you using them now?
maduste@reddit
wait, would NOT?!
Remote_War_6110@reddit
those bead covers were actually genius for air circulation, my dad used one in his old honda and swore by it
SwissMargiela@reddit
I have these in my 4Runner since I drive it like 500 miles a week. They’re amazing. Super uncomfortable at first but now I hate being in seats without them.
I also frequently get numbness in my left shoulder and arm (it’s not my heart lol no worries, just some nerve compression) and it goes away when I sit on the beads for a bit.
theraf8100@reddit (OP)
Ha... my gramps had one, and I did too for a while. It was comfy at the time. I wonder if they still sell them.
Hnry_Dvd_Thr_Awy@reddit
Woah, memory unlocked. Thank you.
Marlov@reddit
B8 Audi seats
Bury me in them
Strict_Indication308@reddit
Get a Tesla. The most comfortable seats in the business
newoldschool@reddit
you could get one of those donut pillows
andrewia@reddit
I spent 2 hours researching car seat ergonomics when I got my latest car and struggled to get comfy. I turned all the research into this guide; maybe it can help you (and anyone else who needs ergonomic help). No AI was used as a source nor used to write this.
theraf8100@reddit (OP)
Wow. Lots of things to consider! Thank you homie!
sigurd197@reddit
Something I want wish I could remember: Don’t drive with your wallet in your back pocket.
redshift88@reddit
Buy a car. Drive it for 15 years until the seat is molded to your butt. Perfect...
theraf8100@reddit (OP)
Ha.... nice.
t0mt0mt0m@reddit
Are you sitting the correct position or are you slouching super like other super cool Prius drivers ?
2Drogdar2Furious@reddit
Former truck driver. Put a seat cover on the drivers seat. Cut out an oversized piece of foam from a memory foam mattress and put under the seat cover. Boom, sitting on a cloud.
Street_Algae_7475@reddit
I regularly drive 12+ hours and share your pain.
Lowkey Fords are amazing. Clearly they’re built for massive people vs Toyotas/vws but they have pretty deep bolstering in their premium models.
I like certain Volvos but they can be hit and miss, I’m a bit smaller so the side bolstering is nice to me.
Ultimately I feel the best are from Mopar. Dodge and Jeep products especially.
soupyyyy@reddit
Volvo 😊
avboden@reddit
Samesies
cilantno@reddit
Of the 3 cars in my household, the Volvo seats have my booty aching the quickest (XC90 II)
Available_Quote_5567@reddit
You might have them set up wrong. I drive my XC90 (and my various other Volvos) 20 hours straight then 12 the next day without any pain. I regularly cover 1200 miles a weekend in my S80.
cilantno@reddit
Maybe! Might be an SUV vs car setup I’m doing wrong.
wkns@reddit
Why
Available_Quote_5567@reddit
I regularly drive from Michigan to Minnesota to see friends for the weekend.
I drive to California a few times a year to see family.
Its_Xavier_Henry@reddit
Borrowed my dads xc90 for a roadtrip, Ig since it was the twincharged trim it came with “sport bucket” seats or whatever they want to call them but my god those seats are so fucking bad, I took my previous 86 on this same roadtrip years prior and I wasn’t as uncomfortable despite having a rougher suspension and more aggressive bolstering on the seats. My current IS is leagues more comfortable, and hell I’ll take my sisters Elantra hybrid over it too atp (she doesn’t trust me with her car though)
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
Can confirm. The 3.5 gen IS seats are incredibly comfortable.
shawn0fthedead@reddit
Look into those sciatica cushions, they have a kind of egg crate shaped filling. It's surprising how it lowers the pressure, I bring one whenever I would have to sit on a wooden bench or chair.
beermaker@reddit
Orthopedic surgeons and spine specialists helped design our car's seats... I've never been uncomfortable driving, even on full day trips.
capncanuck1@reddit
Damn international must have been ahead of the curve on that one.
jrileyy229@reddit
While true... There's something about Toyota seats that also don't work for a lot of people. Short and firm seat base. You can go to Google and see this same discussion all over various forums.
If you're tall and in good shape... Aka don't have a fat donk... You end up with a lot of pressure on a small area.
Rented a rav4 years ago on vacation and it was awful. Rented another one last fall because the car I actually booked wasn't there and that's all they had... Same thing.
MisterDoctor___@reddit
Toyota makes fine seats. It’s Mazda that seems to like using plywood for cushioning.
jrileyy229@reddit
Well, There's probably a reason a company exists that sells seat jackers for Toyota products.... And they sold enough of them for the knock offs to flood Amazon
MisterDoctor___@reddit
They make them for every car brand.
eh_itzvictor@reddit
I have a 4th Gen Mazda 3, never any seat fatigue or sore butts, even on a drive from Florida to Connecticut 😄
BathingInSoup@reddit
The seats in my all have built-in cushions.
thebigboogalo@reddit
The problem isn’t the car. Hit the gym and get caked up - problem solved
RogersTreasure@reddit
100 miles is kinda long bruv maybe take breaks
TrueSwagformyBois@reddit
Bad positioning. Keep messing around with the position. I have found that the flatter / more parallel with the road surface my legs are, the better. I generally keep pushing the back of the seat up as the time in the car goes on.
digiwarfare@reddit
It's just the Prius seats that suck, was driving a Prius 280 miles a day. Biggest upgrade was switching to the CT200h Lexus, seats are so much better
rdklz@reddit
I get those seat cushions with the tailbone cutout. I can sit a whole day without any pain.
fliTDI@reddit
I remove my wallet from my back pocket in order to sit comfortably.
BlackCatFurry@reddit
A flat throw pillow. Very likely from ikea.
Also because my back is short and no car seat has enough height adjustment for me to get a comfortable position.
LRGnSC@reddit
My husband drives OTR and uses this. He suffers from NAAA disease. https://a.co/d/09PjW5J8
junaidnk@reddit
I have the Sealy posturpedic seat cushion (I think i purchased it from Burlington) which I use in my sim but that does not equate to real life driving tho. I do like the memory foam aspect of it.
MrRyan_89@reddit
I just bought a vw Passat and noticed the same thing it’s been 5 weeks now unless I got something else going on
ReadWriteHexecute@reddit
your seat isn’t positioned correctly! i can do up to 200mls a day with a 6 speed but it only works after adjusting the seat well to reduce pressure on areas
Twiggyhiggle@reddit
I use the purple cushion on my hard chair at the table when I work from home, and love it.
theraf8100@reddit (OP)
Can you be more specific? Purple cushion returns many results.
Twiggyhiggle@reddit
One like this https://purple.com/seat-cushions/car
Patagonia202020@reddit
I believe they mean the Purple (mattress) brand cushion. I’ve used them too, they’re solid.
WhippersnapperUT99@reddit
Maybe look online for a cheap firm memory foam mattress topper, cut out a square of that and put a cover on it.
