As a Brit, do you think you swear too often?

I don’t think I swear too often, but I think I’ve become too casual with it. Sometimes I don’t even notice I’ve swore unless I’m around my little sister and I go “ah, sorry”.

As someone born and bred in the UK what are aspects of another country’s culture that has genuinely shocked you?

Oh, I spoke to my mate from the US, who came to England to study, about this. He basically said “in America there isn’t really an indoor voice. We never think ‘oh I need to be quiet now’; it’s just one volume the whole time, whether you’re at the park, in the house, whatever.” He described putting on an indoor voice like “putting on an accent” as in, he had to really concentrate on being quiet.

Good trim is probably the only time I’d tip. That or if a cab driver goes above and beyond. I’m not tipping someone for just doing their job

Should supermarket loyalty “discounts” be capped?

Ayyyyylmaos@reddit

It absolutely baffles me that people are so aghast at loyalty pricing… it’s free to get a clubcard, and requires data that is already readily available on the internet if someone actually wanted to find something. At this point, everyone who is “anti data stealing”, what’s the point? Like actually what’s the point? Are you telling me you don’t have an account for anything? You think Netflix, or Amazon, or Sky, don’t sell your data? You think social media sites don’t regularly get scalped?

If Australia was only a 2 hour flight away and offered every UK citizen a passport, would you move?

Posted by iMac_Hunt@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1059 comments

Ayyyyylmaos@reddit

Absolutely not. Afaik In Australia you have to be near one of the major cities if you want any sort of half decent internet, and according to my friend who lived there for 5 years, all of them are massive tourist traps. But there’s no other place to go because there aren’t any substantial built up areas that aren’t on the coast. Combine that with the creatures and the heat and spider season… absolutely not. Their politics aren’t good either.

Sell most of it and then leave some in bushes. Sounds like there’s some old stuff in there, honestly you might get a lot more for it than you think.

You *have* to stop at 11pm. Sounds like they’re putting stuff together so this won’t be a permanent thing, and when you asked it sounds like they genuinely didn’t realise, but I can’t tell from what you’ve said whether they’re still doing it or not. Assuming they are. Maybe just ask if they could drill earlier? As I say there’s nothing you can do in terms of forcing them but yeah.

Anyone who says baths are weird or dirty I think is just an idiot… basically saying you can’t clean anything if it’s in a body of water.

Someone is breaking my garden fence. What can I do?

Posted by BondedByBelief1878@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 127 comments

Ayyyyylmaos@reddit

Ok, absolutely do not further antagonise with notes or knocking. Someone clearly either wants to fuck with you or actually plans to do something, otherwise they wouldn’t be bringing screwdrivers around the estate. It’s very possible it’s someone who thinks they have some sort of claim to your garden bc they have a garage there, but it’s not worth sorting this yourself. At the end of the day this seems like it falls under breaking and entering… very much warranting police action. New lock, some sort of cctv camera, and police notification.
