How did Dubai attract so many Brits ?

I am an immigrant from UK to Dubai. I see a lot of very flippant and derogatory answers in the comments. Some are correct, some are exaggerated, some are completely wrong. I don’t have a BMW on PCP. I don’t have Turkey Teeth. I’ve never bought anything crushed velvet. I didn’t grow up in a new build house. I’m a pretty regular guy from the East Midlands. I went to a grammar school. I have worked in tech my whole life. I got an OK degree in a field not related at all to my line of work. I moved to Dubai because I got headhunted in 2021. The Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund (ADQ) were building a startup bank (Wio) and asked me to help because I’d worked at Monzo and Apple.  I joined because I always wanted to move abroad and had nothing tying me to the UK (most of my family lived abroad, lost contact with many of my friends, etc). Before moving I thought UAE was Saudi Arabia. I thought alcohol was illegal, everyone dressed in Arabic clothing, punishments were harsh and completely inflexible, and it was always hot.  I spoke to my cousin who moved to Al Ain (a city in Abu Dhabi Emirate) and he confirmed that this was all wrong. I watched some videos and realised it actually looks very easy to settle there. Firstly, everyone speaks English (shops, govt departments, banks, road signs) so language is not a problem. Secondly, everyone is tolerant of differences. You don’t need to become a Muslim or speak Arabic, or live in a different way to ‘blend’. You can exist as you want. As long as you’re not breaking any rules, it’s fine. Thirdly, the country is quite new so things are of high quality. There’s housing of all kinds, schools of all kinds, and many different forms of entertainment. As I said you don’t have to blend, but also finding something that fits in your budget and lifestyle is easy. Fourthly, being university educated, a fluent English speaker, having good work experience, and having a Western approach to work are quire rare here. As a result pay is high and as long as you find a good company, work is good. Fifth, it’s easier to earn more. I’m paid more and I save more than any time before in my life. Partly due to low taxes and partly for reasons mentioned above. Sixth, there is less judgement. “New money” is frowned upon in the UK, it’s seen as crass. I don’t flaunt wealth but I don’t want to be judged for my pay. “Tall poppy syndrome” where the successful are pulled down with high taxes or baseless accusations of corruption is also rife in UK but not Dubai. I could go on but I’ll leave it there for now. I get the feeling that people who say bad things about Dubai really don’t know what they’re talking about, or are projecting jealousy. It’s as weird as saying that “Shenzhen is just a shopping mall” or “Nairobi is a fake city full of influencers”.
