If we use the UK's spending for the nhs as a benchmark 242 billion annually with a population of 70 million vs the US 342, the total sum is just over a trillion pounds (1.3 trillion dollars) to fund health care in the states.

Your common sense says no barrier is the same as a barrier? I live in the real world. Feel free to have a nosey at any pub/fast food/train etc toilet. I know not all germy things are visible so it may require a leap of faith on your part that genital bodily fluids may be on something that genitals touch. I like the fact so many people are happy to be my 'sponges', and I appreciate you all.

Is uni really the best years of your life…?

Posted by username284015@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 114 comments

Alternative_Week_117@reddit

Yes. Had loads of sex and drugs, met my future wife while at uni. The first year at university was the best year of my life and I'm now in my 50's. Lots of good things have happened to me since but I can't go out every night and party like I did then and just generally dick about for a straight year. Its not a case though of life going downhill, I've changed and couldn't/wouldn't want to be that young man anymore, I still look back with fondness though.

My mum smacked me sometimes, I don't really remember any of them, it did me zero harm and I could have done with some more to be honest. She was regularly disappointed in me so I got the silent treatment, I'd have rather have had a smack. Talk to her nearly every day. I had a really tough upbringing and she did her very best and sacrificed a lot for me, love my mum.

Hes an act. The guy shat himself when working under Pierre white (who was a mental genius) and bullshited about playing for rangers for years until finally getting called out over it then it never gets mentioned. He also had multiple affairs and pictures of him meeting an ex in a hotel, the story quietly got forgotten and never mentioned... Great self publicist, decent but hardworking chef, shady husband.

On a scale of 1-10 (one being ignored completely and ten being adhered to completely literally), how close did you follow the COVID regulations in 2020-2022?

10, work in a hospital as support staff so was in all types of wards over covid.   I’d be a real cunt to not follow the guidelines as I would have been putting very vulnerable people at risk. Some of the replies on this make me despair at the human race and the selfishness of some people, it wasn’t a game.

NHS workers who worked during the pandemic, how are you doing now?

Posted by thesquareegg88@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 55 comments

Alternative_Week_117@reddit

Patient experience, my job is to clean rooms/wards when people leave or infectious outbreaks or they die. Zero support, no extra training was just told good luck and try and look after yourself, thats it. Saw whole wards decimated by covid, you know in historical films about the Crimea with just sounds of coughing and a general air of death? It was like that in some places. Staff looked terrified sometimes. Travelling to work I was the only one on a normally busy bus. Very jealous of people just out walking their dogs or playing in the park with their kids. Pots and pans basing was pure performative nonsense, I'd have rather someone came round and cut my grass. I was optimistic that the whole experience would change things for human kind, how could they not remember and go back to they way things were after this? I overestimated people.

If you won £100 million, how would you distribute it amongst friends and family, if at all?

I have a mortgage for about 400k. Id be selling this shack (or just give it away) and buying a mansion, or renting a waterside property somewhere posh and sunny. The worlds my oyster. It's 100 million by the way not 1 million.

50 million straight to my wife as she has a larger family than me so however she wants to use it is up to her. I'd give my two family 5 million each, 40 million left for me. I hate the notion that having to work gives you a purpose. I don't do shit because I have to work and it doesn't pay enough. I'd travel the world first class, meet new and exiting people, attend exiting parties and go to massive sporting events, you would see me in the background of film premiers and on red carpets. I want the money to change me, otherwise whats the fkin point? I swear most of the people on here have zero imagination.

Yep, people are really underestimating how much 100 million is. 'I'd pay off my mortgage' brigade may as well give most of it away to local charities where it will make a difference to someone's life.

Alternative_Week_117@reddit

I worked nights at the weekend, so Jury service all week and work at the weekends... fkin bullshit. Got called in nearly every day but never selected for any service. It was meant to last 3 weeks I stuck it for 2 then rang in saying my wife was unwell and I did have young kids to look after, the person I spoke too couldn't have been less bothered about me not attending. Everyone else there was loving being off from work, so if you work weekdays you're laughing.

Sainsbury’s changed the Christmas bonus into a Christmas’gift’ on pay packets.  As usdaw are so weak and in bed with them they let it go, bonuses have to be negotiated gifts can be taken away, and that’s exactly what they did.

What is the UKs thoughts on Meghan Markle?

Alternative_Week_117@reddit

Its hard to feel sympathy for very privileged rich people but Harry wanted out of that life and he found a wife to make it happen. The royals were never going to accept an American and/or black woman, it was never going to work out. The way the papers did hit pieces on her and Piers Morgan constantly going after her makes me think there was massive agenda probably palace driven to make him choose or dive a wedge in the marriage. I don't really care about the royals (pedo's and philanderers} and they're hardly living a life of poverty so I'll not be shedding any tears soon.

For me its been great. Don't get into 'the world in which i raise my children' nonsense. You will be raising them so you instil the values and morals you want them to have, you are creating the future generation so make good people, you can do that. I have three daughters, they are all smarter and harder workers than me (take after their mother) and I've loved being their dad.

Antiques roadshow.  The bit when they ask Fiona Bruce to guess the value of three items.  How the fuck will a newsreader possibly know, or us at home?  Then the expert gets to look smug when they know the answer like we’re all dumb for not knowing. Such an ill conceived wanky idea.
