I had a tag. Had. Stupid me actually used it on my carry on and had to check it once on a flight from Vegas to Toronto. It was gone when I picked up my bag. 🤬

If you are ever in the area, it’s an excellent museum. Highly recommended, especially on days when the Lancaster is flying. You can get very close when they run up the engines.Ā

I experienced the same thing recently. One formerly close friend passed away mid-last year. We had not spoken for about 10 years, but I looked him up over the holidays and found that he is gone. We grew apart, and one day was the last we’d ever speak with each other again. Life is too short.Ā

The speed of sound is dependant on air pressure, density and temperature. Yes, they are travelling slightly faster than the speed of sound across the ground at sea level, which is about 1235km/h. But given the relative air speed (the shove from the jet stream) and other factors they will not exceed the max Mach number of the airframe which is 0.89.

It’s Christmas eve, so instead here’s one of my favourite Vulcan howls ever

Posted by HelloSlowly@reddit | aviation | View on Reddit | 36 comments

spish@reddit

Vulcan has Bristol Olympus, Concorde has SNECMA/Rolls Royce Olympus. Similar but very different in their application and efficiency. The Bristol produces 11,000 lbs thrust dry, where the SNECMA/RR produced nearly 3x that, and more with reheat. Fun fact, the Concorde engine was the most efficient of any known thermodynamic machine at the time.Ā
