I am surprised that it is still out in the public! I thought that a reconditioning would be done and moved to another location.
As for selling it and giving the money to Ukraine, not sure what is at stake and how much could one get for this plane?! (As much as someone is willing to pay for it). I am sure that Antonov Airlines would be happy to purchase it... for 1 penny on the dollar at this point.
There was some talk for a while about the legality of Canada selling it and giving the proceeds to Ukraine but I haven’t seen anything on it in a while.
Still there. Still racking up $1,065 a day in parking fees. Technically on the Mississauga side of the city line but wouldn't it be hilarious if they set a Toronto bylaw court on the thousand or so unpaid parking tickets.thr thing's racked up....
There's two production lines one at Kyiv and the other one isAviastar-SP which is located in Ulyanovsk. The subject aircraft which got seized at yyz, belongs to Volga Dnper airlines out of Ulyanovsk.
As mentioned in a previous reply, I was always under the impression that the Antonov's were all Ukrainian production frames. But, I see now that is not the case. Thank you!
Aircraft development and construction in the Soviet Union was never done in a single place. Antonov (which started in Russia then moved to Ukraine) in Ukraine was responsible for the design, which used the support of TsAGI in Russia, which also approved the design. There were two production lines for the 124, one in Russia and another in Ukraine (another Soviet particularity). The engines were developed and manufactured in Ukraine.
Rather than being an ass, you could help someone learn. I’m aware of the Ukraine and Russia situation, but I’m not aware as to if they’ve taken aircraft and just switched registrations and whatnot or… whatever else.
Great hive mind downvoting an earnest request for information.
You have the confidence to tell someone to learn history, yet not the knowledge to know:
The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was a Union of different countries that included the Ukrainian SSR and the Russian SFSR as two separate republics. To call everything under the Soviet Union "Russian" would be historically ignorant of how that system actually operated.
Not just general history knowledge tho. The actual airframe itself, if you actually knew anything, was assembled in Ulyanovsk, which is in Russia anyway.

Last time my family and I stayed in Toronto, we stayed in the Double Tree hotel. The AN-124 is STILL there?!?! Wow.
Truf28@reddit
Just saw this landing about 2hrs ago... Was wondering what it was
Trashthisprofile@reddit
Curious, this landed in 2022 and never took off again.
Truf28@reddit
I saw it as I was landing from AMS today
to_fire1@reddit
You saw “it” landing about 2 hours ago, or “you” were landing and saw it 2 hours ago?
Truf28@reddit
Should clarify, I was landing from AMS and saw it sitting at the airport.

Formerly owned by Volga-Dnepr Airlines (Russian) and seized by the Canadian government.

And has been mostly just sitting at Pearson Airport.
Feintmotion@reddit
I was there yesterday!!!

I really miss crossing the 205 bridge and seeing these on the ramp at PDX. Used to be a couple times a month now nothing.
yzerman88@reddit
Can we at least scrape off the Russian flag from the tail? Hate seeing it when stuck on the 427
punkin_sumthin@reddit
Isn’t this the only one left?
RockSolid1106@reddit
No, there's a few more An124s out there.
Mumpitzjaeger@reddit
There's 3 of those at my home airport (LEJ). They haven't been moved ever since they've been seized.
Nimbus3258@reddit
Fun tidbit: one of those (RA-82045) had already been sitting there, inactive, for three years prior to sanctions being imposed.
UnreliableSRE@reddit
By the way, has it gone through proper long-term storage procedures?
Nimbus3258@reddit
Yep. ADB mechanics have been tending to it and it had a more thorough vetting this past summer. Or with the way time flies, may be it was spring.
kschischang@reddit
Someone is working on it - they take it for a walk every once in a while.

Pardon my ignorance but why is it flying a Russian flag if it’s a Ukrainian frame?

Ahh, that makes sense. I was always under the impression that the Antonov's were all purely Ukrainian, but that does shed more light on it. Thank you.

Ukrainian designed and built but started back in Sowiet times so ruzzia owns some.

Ok, airframe was made before the fall of the Soviet Union, therefore Russian. But you could have done a little work to find that out.
