What's the worst airport you've flown in or out of? What's your favorite?

LHR just overly convoluted and difficult to get around. Just seems so incredibly disorganized and everything from checking to passport control to immigration just moves so unbelievably slow. Cramps, narrow corridors in many areas. However, I will digress it’s been several years and I know they’re slowly revamping the entire airport. MAD is another one. I’m not a huge fan of. While terminal four is truly beautiful, again it just seems to take an overly long time to get around. The other terminals are cramped and super spread out. As far as Favorites, AMS is very easy to get around and transit, and you definitely cannot be the duty-free shopping there. DEN is my favorite as far as a major connecting hub. The airport flow is very well for how large it is.

u/penelo-rig just commenting again to say i flew through LHR for the first time a few days back with no trouble. super rushed 2h connection between LGW and LHR and i got through security within 5 minutes and ran to the gate. i believe it was so fast because of the UK's new ETA system—it's annoying because it costs money to get in (even for a layover) but damn was it fast. got to my gate just before they started boarding

Only beef with AMS is how goddamn long it takes to walk anywhere. Get through immigration and want to go to a lounge? 15 min walk. Then need to get to your gate? 20+ minute walk to the other end of the airport.

Yea Madrid, the place itself is one of the easiest cities I have ever navigated.... but I didn't need a tour of the entire airport after landing before getting to the terminal... and leaving... no announcements have to watch a screen.. which they didn't update
View on Reddit #73306004

mannomanniwish@reddit

Heathrow T5 and T2 are my favourite „airports“. Never been to the other terminals.
View on Reddit #73295344

penelo-rig@reddit

Yeah, as I said, I haven’t been through four about seven or eight years. Did a connection from Madrid to Philadelphia via LHR. British Airways. On the first leg and American on the second leg.. T5 was definitely nice and spacious, but it just seemed like it took forever to get to the transit area to transit over to terminal 3. And terminal three was extremely dated with very low ceilings, tight corridors. And can’t even technically go to the gate after passing through the extremely slow passport control as they are blocked off until about 15 minutes before boarding. Just a very odd difficult airport.
View on Reddit #73305910

JoeBagadonut@reddit

LHR varies a lot by terminal. T5 feels very nice and modern whereas T4 feels like the deepest circle of hell.
View on Reddit #73259312

Terminal 2 is nice, but terminal 3 looks like a greyhound station to me.
View on Reddit #73268468

Ugh, do they still make connecting passengers go through security again at LHR? I just remember waiting in a long-ass line and thinking, "literally everyone in this line has already been checked. WTF."
View on Reddit #73253006

finnknit@reddit

Yes, because the buses between the terminals are not treated as air side. They take passengers to the same security checkpoints that passengers entering the terminal from outside use.
View on Reddit #73256784

bschmidt25@reddit

It’s especially fun going through security again after you’ve just landed from a 9 hour flight. They really need an airside train between all of the terminals.
View on Reddit #73262621

bkco88@reddit

\+1 for DEN - people like to rag on it, but ultimately it's a well-thought-out airport. Even better now that security has been revamped - I've never waited more than 5 minutes in the past 3 months of heavy travel. My only request is that they add a walkable option between concourses.
View on Reddit #73250613

bschmidt25@reddit

The security situation at DEN is miles better now than it was before. That’s not saying much though! They’re doing a good job with the renovations too. It was starting to show its age badly.

I had a connection via LCY to LHR and it was easier to exit LCY and train over (as an inexperienced yank) than it was to navigate door-to-gate at LHR. (Also big thanks to the LCY agents who saw a terrified dude and told me exactly how to get to LHR in 45 minutes.)

As a PX. Intl: - Worst: CLJ somehow nudging out GRU - Best: CDG because it exemplifies everything I love about the absolute adeptness of the ineptitude of the French and the number of fucks they have to give about it. - Honourable mention to AMS and ICN for getting people thru the system. US: - Worst: CLT nudging out OAK because I haven't flown there in a decade. In actuality, we all know it's ORD. - Best: OKC because I'm an hour from home, but I am a sucker for DEN, including old Stapleton.
View on Reddit #73251178

bschmidt25@reddit

OKC is a sleeper. Super easy airport. DEN felt really soulless until they started renovating it. I really like what they’re doing to it now.
View on Reddit #73262349

justec1@reddit

I enjoy flying from OKC, but I'm not sure how it is for arrivals and dealing with car rentals. All the renovations in the last decade have made it a much better experience for me. We even have a direct flight to CUN now. Haven't flown it yet, but looking forward to it. I lived in DEN when they built DIA. I liked Stapleton, but it was a pit. Before they opened DIA for air traffic, United invited pax to come out and tour the new airport. We wandered around for hours and rode the train back and forth. Before 9/11, the terminal had great restaurants. We'd go out there sometime just for a meal and plane spotting.
View on Reddit #73275805

awakeatnight3@reddit

Rentals were super easy at OKC both arriving and departing. They have a little bus that runs very frequently and takes you back and forth. It was very quick and I had 0 issues as a very inexperienced traveler.
View on Reddit #73605914

justec1@reddit

That's good to know. They built that rental facility about 5 years ago. Before that, you could walk to your rental from the terminal. The new rental facility looks nice from the road and there's some interesting art inside. Some places with remote rental facilities are a pain, so I hoped that wasn't the case here.

I wasn't impressed with Schipol in 2015, but it was great this summer. CDG really is love/hate, but the TGV is such a civilized way to travel. Or was, the last time we were there. For 25 years work had me in the air monthly. Close to retiring, so it's mostly leisure travel now.

Wow, OAK? Can I ask why? That’s my base and I’d love to understand why it’s your 2nd worst? I’ll fly out if OAK over SFO any day.
View on Reddit #73287568

justec1@reddit

Fair question. I worked for a company on Alameda back in the mid 00's and would fly in/out of OAK quarterly. It was actually great to just pop over that little bridge onto the island rather than taking the tunnels. As I said, it's been at least a decade since I flew through there, but in the mid 00's, the security line was a cluster-fuck. Everything in the gate areas was that dull color of beige and very few places to enjoy a drink or get food before the flight. I'm sure they've renovated since then, like OKC has, and it's a lot better now. I'd almost certainly take it over SJC.
View on Reddit #73296106

Tunnelboy77@reddit

Interesting. Yes, they've definitely improved it. SW has gotten so big in OAK that they now use part of Terminal 1 in addition to all of T2. Security is always a breeze. Have never had more than a 15 minute wait any time of day. And there are now local restaurants (as opposed to generic chains). I think you probably wouldn't recognize it any more. New (well 10 years old?) BART extension so super easy. Not being a cheerleader for them, but I don't find it missing anything. Except more long distance flights like an OAK-JFK or something. They have a ton of flights to Hawaii, but nothing east of the Mississippi. I remember BA started a non-stop there to London (which I took), and Norweigan (rip) flew several non-stops to Europe. All gone now. The only international is a few flights to Mexico. Anyway, doesn't matter.

It's less the facility than the staff. I've never met a group of people who collectively decide to make other people miserable on such a large scale as UAL's Chicago employees. Which is weird, because Chicago is a pretty cool city to be in.
View on Reddit #73297111

OnTheEveOfWar@reddit

OAK is wayyy better now. I live in the Bay Area and will choose OAK over SFO every time. Parking is walking distance, security is fast, they added a ton of food places, it’s small enough you can get across the entire airport in a 10 mins walk. They have less weather related delays than SFO.

I have a soft spot for Dulles. That Eero Saarinen terminal gets me every time, and I haven’t found it to be particularly arduous any time that I’ve flown out of it. I have no love for AUS. Feels crowded and cramped. Obnoxious tech bros everywhere; and the most expensive food that I’ve come across in any airport $20 for a chicken sandwich? Give me a break. Mixed feelings about LAS, PHX, and DFW. LAS with the multiple people movers is a pain to navigate. At PHX most of the food options require leaving security. DFW, for how massive it is has remarkably mediocre food selection.

View on Reddit #73254109

SaltCreep67@reddit

OMG yes! They built Dulles on farmland (which, at the time was) in the middle of nowhere and could have designed it any way they wanted. And so they came up with a ridiculous system that would only make sense if you had to plonk down an airport against the side of a mountain, or along the banks of a river, or to avoid razing 10k homes and businesses. You had to get on these weird elevated busses that drove passengers from the ticketing terminal to your departure terminal, creating a completely unnecessary 30 step. Also it looks like it was designed by big fans of that cartoon, The Jetsons. This airport is well named after one of the architects of the Vietnam war.

I’m the exact opposite. With, ORD you have to go through security again if you switch terminals. And I like ATL’s layout more it’s very efficient and requires less walking.
View on Reddit #73293655

Unlucky-Constant-736@reddit

For me I don’t switch terminals at ORD, so I don’t have that issue. I work for United so I just use one airline at ORD. But honestly I think I’d lean towards Denver or Newark but I didn’t list them because I’ve only gone through Denver twice and Newark once.
View on Reddit #73298197

Yeah United has their own terminal at ORD (Terminal 1) so if you’re flying United then you can just stay there (which works especially well for interline). But for other airlines you have to switch in-and-out and going through security again is such a pain. While ATL airport terminals are all connected underground so don’t need to go through security again.

One of the important secrets with DFW is to check the security wait times online before you get to the airport. If you aren't checking a bag you can enter the airport anywhere (and if you are flying with American you can check your bag basically anywhere) and the airside train is very good.

IND is one of the best, and you won't convince me otherwise. Between amount of direct flights, design being post 9-11, Goldilocks size, time to get through security, and the additional importance on keeping the AOA clear and open due to the major FedEx hub across the ramp. It's rated high nationwide, but I still think it's underrated. I've had terrible experiences at ORD and LHR - but also had good ones. Surprisingly I've had continually luck at EWR and the few times I've been CLT have been fine with TSA Pre-Check - looked like hell without it though.

The Mexican government dumped billions of pesos into constructing a new airport on Lake Texcoco, only for it to be canceled four years in due to the fact that it was a structural and ecological nightmare. There are 14 billion pesos in interest fees for the failed construction costs that will take decades to pay off - much of the original costs were embezzled or "disappeared".  It was a shitshow of colossal proportions, billed as Mexico's largest ever infrastructure project. Now we're left with MEX for the unforseeable future.

LAX shouldn’t even be considered part of the developed world. Getting to the airport is a miserable experience and that’s the most pleasant part of the whole trip. Once you’re there you’re sitting through traffic just to get to your terminal. If you’re in the international terminal or simply not in terminal 1? You’re screwed. And God help you if you need to switch terminals after check in. Going through TSA is like being processed through a prison with how irate the staff is. And your plastic water bottle? Chuck it out you peasant! Yeah I know it’s empty, but too bad! It’s contraband. Pay $10 for an aluminum water bottle in the terminal instead. If you’re flying to a smaller city or simply unlucky your domestic flight is going through an international terminal and if it’s one of the remote terminals? Enjoy your bus ride! It only adds an extra hour of waiting in line and crossing the tarmac. If you’re lucky enough to make it to your gate on time and get seated, you get to taxi back across that tarmac for an hour. At this point you have time to realize the $50/ticket you saved at most was not worth the misery of skipping SNA, ONT, or BUR. You might even be thinking you should have just hopped on the Amtrak and flown out of SAN.
View on Reddit #73278944

I really didn't understand the LAX hate until I connected through it last week via the international terminal to terminal 7. Favorite: Home town airport of Milwaukee, with their "Recombobulation Area" and "Welcome to Cleveland" signs. They also have an outline of a curling stone in the terrazzo floor in the Southwest Terminal, as a curler, I appreciate that. Strangest: Topeka, in a small single engine plane prop plane. It was a commercial flight on a rinky dink small airline, I got to sit in the co-pilot seat ("don't touch anything!"). Apparently Topeka used to be a B-52 base, it looked like we could have landed crosswise on the runway Worst: I don't like to dis Iceland because it is a amazing country, but the Keflavik Airport really needs to improve their wayfinding signage as you arrive. Most fun flight: Back in the 1970's in high school, I lived in the Bay Area and had a girlfriend in Visalia. There was an Essential Air Service flight on United using a 737 (-100? -200? I don't know). The flight went from San Francisco to Stockton to Modesto to Merced to Visalia. 9 minute flight from Modesto to Merced, they don't even do the oxygen mask demonstration because they don't go high enough. Until they rebuilt it MCI was always my answer as well. A friend in the industry explained that pre 9/11 that airport was literally the best, but added security ruined it. It’s a smaller airport but my answer now is EYW, way too small for the amount of traffic it gets. My favorite is probably DEN

Old MCI was literally the best to fly in and out of, it took approximately 30 seconds from leaving the hotel van to walking down the jet bridge.

Jeff1024@reddit

Growing up in KC I have so many great memories of old MCI. My dad traveled a considerable amount for work and I would always beg my mom to leave hours early to pick him up so we could get to the airport and I could watch planes come in and out. The old MCI was such a great design, but the same design that made it great also killed it post 9/11. There was simply no way to build a single security checkpoint in the terminals. The result was the terminals being divided in half lengthwise down the concourse. The problem with that was it placed items like food and restaurants outside of TSA. I have since moved away from KC but traveled back maybe a year ago. The new design is amazing. Maybe one of the best midsized airports I have flown in and out of. The only issue I have is the crazy rental car situation. I believe light rail is in the works to get from the terminals to the rental car facility, they need to get that in sooner rather than later.

I haven’t been to MCI since they redid it, but having practically nothing between TSA and the gate but a cramped waiting area really was not the brightest.

I haven't had any notably bad experiences (airports are awesome; they have airplanes there!) but YYZ can get fucked with a sideways cactus. Thankfully with the proliferation of long-range narrowbodies it's getting easier to get from western Canada to the Caribbean without stopping there. Also not a tremendous fan of NRT only because the post-security food choices are extremely limited for an alpha city world port; I'm assuming since they're used to Asian airlines that actually care for their pax. Favourites? I enjoyed connecting through ATL and the giant viewing window at SEA is awesome.

And fuck JFK, like 60 seats in the gate area for a flight with 500 passengers, and not even enough space for people standing in line, also because right across there's another plane with 350 people boarding? Most recent worst that comes to mind is LAS. Its old, cramped, the ground transportation is terrible. The worst is getting stuck there after a long couple days in Vegas, hungover, and still having to see slot machines. Not that I have personal experience /w this. Living in Louisville I have the pleasure of connecting to a major hub on pretty much every trip. Also usually get to make a terminal change - arriving into a hub on a regional jet the going out on something larger. With that in mind: Delta - I will take a ATL connection most of the time - its a well thought out airport and easy to make connections in United - I try to avoid ORD - its a 50min flight from Louisville and I swear there have been times I have taxied around that place longer than I was in the air. American - I dislike CLT. Always delays and making connections in that airport is terrible. Also not a huge fan of MIA. That leaves DFW which if I am headed West is maybe my best option. Southwest - Generally get to head to MDW first, which isn't horrible I enjoy the opportunity to get an Italian beef.

Manchester Airport EGCC is a mess. Just a hodgepodge of terminals and buildings thrown up together. Definitely showing it's age. Security was an absolute joke after COVID opened back up. St Louis KSTL is a bit of a joke right now too, you cannot stay airside to go between A B and C gates or switch between terminals 1 or 2 but at least there are plans to modernize. St Louis seems to essentially be a regional airport with 4 runways. The loss of TWA hurt it and it is still recovering from. Of all airports I have been too, I like Schiphol, I'll connect through Amsterdam before I go through Heathrow any day of the week. Montevideo MVD was small, compact but efficient for a nations capital. Keflavik too. Small & compact but very efficient at transferring IcelandAir transiting passengers off inbound US flights onto departing European flights early in the mornings

CDG is the worst. Confusing signage that conflicts with other signage. Ask police officer what direction to go in French and English and he just looks right through me like I don’t exist. Ask again and he turns and walks away. Screening staff had a complete meltdown in front of me and tried to accuse another passenger of pushing them. Which I witnessed did not happen but they yelled and screamed about it for 2 minutes like a baby. Then continued to yell across the security area for as long as I was there. Exit immigration officer also had a meltdown because my wife did not hand him her passport fast enough. Went on a long rant in French which she does not understand and that is why she did not hand him the passport as she did not know what he wanted. I just ignored the man baby until he ran out of air. Fast track security for business class was just a confusing mess with lines that did not make sense and chaos would be the easiest way to describe it. I don’t really care if I use the fast track but they insisted I had to. The lounge was consistent with my other experiences. I did enjoy the awards for best airport banners I saw in the terminal. I dont get the EWR hate. I havent flown into it a ton, usually use LGA, but on a recent trip I gave it a shot. Everything was on time, in fact when we were headed home the captain came off the plane into the terminal and said if we can board quickly he had a window and could get us out early. Never had that happen at LGA. If you are traveling to midtown its difficult to beat NJTransit to Penn. I would do that all day over the cluster that is the LGA bus to the subway station in Queens.

I flew into Newark once with a connecting flight to Allentown. Looked all over on the boards trying to find the flight, finally went to a customer service desk. It wasn't a flight. It was a bus. Worst would be Vienna. Booked last minute flights from Croatia to Berlin with a stopover in Vienna, arriving at 11pm, flying out at 6am. It became immediately clear that they made it hostile for anyone to attempt to stay over... not a single charging plug to be found, and not a single place that you could lie down, with little barricades on every stretch of seats more than 1.5m long. No food available, shifty amenities, just a generally shit experience all round. Best by far is Changi, Singapore. Ample spots to charge phones, lie down, relax, or go see a movie, or play in a games room with many assorted consoles and games available. Showers, clean toilets, just a masterclass in how to provide a top notch airport facility.

I really think they made it bad on purpose just to set expectations that you are now on Island Time. The arrival into that airport is so beautiful - over the water with hills on either side. Then you get to the terminal and like you said its just....well yeah. My largest issue is the terminal is entirely too small and its serviced by larger 757 and 737 Aircraft. Delta American and United have flights that leave about the same time in the afternoon and everyone tries to get to the airport 2 hours early b/c you never know how TSA / Border Patrol will be. There just isnt enough room for that many people in the already cramped and outdated terminal. But hey the islands are beautiful, a small price to pay I guess.

Abuja and Dakar were pretty awful, think rats and power outages every few minutes. I think both have since opened new terminals.  In the US, where to start? LGA and EWR are both horrible (although haven't been to LGA since the new terminals opened). EWR literally reeked of piss and my taxi ride into Manhattan was singularly the most disgusting vehicle I've ever been in, and I say this as someone who spends a lot of time in developing countries.  IAD used to be my home airport and I hate it, somehow C/D seems a fitting hub for the capital of the US - decayed, poorly designed, and just kind of miserable to be in. So, CLT is my home airport and I’ve grown to appreciate its eccentricities, but I fly weekly and can go through it with my eyes closed. I get why everyone else hates it. DEN is almost the worst because there just aren’t any signs directing you where to go. It’s the only airport you find yourself in a herd of strangers wandering aimlessly trying to find the ticket counter. Most airports have a logic to it to a certain extent. Not DEN. MIA is the worst as others have stated. Understaffed and the employees are awful. I hate the whole city, so that might be part of it. I love the small regionals like Shreveport (where I am now actually) or Chattanooga or Bakersfield. Where there’s only 6 gates and 2 baggage carousels. Feels like my own private airport.

It’s extremely badly designed, steps up steps down for no reason (except bad design); signs very hard to read; station put in a random spot with no intelligent directions to it shown; same goes for parking lots and taxi stands, all very hard to find. All this when Tegel was -if small- the best airport ever designed.
View on Reddit #73252424

RnNChas0r@reddit

Yes, that's basically it, I agree with what Frequent Chain already said. To add a few points: The infrastructure around the airport is just horrible. Yeah, there is the regional train FEX and the S-Bahn but the FEX is very, very unreliable. It should be better with the newly opened railroad track, however expect it to be cancelled or delayed by a long shot because it's not driving but just standing around in the middle of nowhere frequently. So when you're trapped in it, you can't really use the S-Bahn. The A100 is also not an option with an Uber/Taxi because it's crowded every single time if you're not trying to get there in the early morning. Had to hurry quite a few times although I left early. It's also the only airport where I had consistent delays. Can't remember all the reasons honestly. But there was always something. Stuff like this for example: My aircraft had to be repositioned to a remote parking stand because of an incoming aircraft due to a slot when next to our flight there were literally 5 to 7 parking spots available for the landing aircraft to park. It's just always a pain. One additional thing that is highly annoying: the distances you have to walk. Arriving in T2 or having a gate somewhere at the far end of A38 or B45 with an always defective moving walkway is just not convenient. It's not like the airport is very big but you'll walk quite a lot if your gate is located at the end of the world. Might be true for other airports as well but to be honest, I walked the most distances at BER, for sure. Also the staff compared to other airports I’ve flown out of seems to be quite unprofessional and sometimes even overwhelmed when handling slight irregularities. Handing over information to passengers because of the (delayed) status of your flight or stuff like overbooking seems to always be an issue. And lastly, the lack of meaningful flights. Especially long haul. For a capital city it has a laughable network and I imagine that the airport is struggling with it, however I can't see them improving on that. And in my opinion the history of Germany made it especially hard for the airport, however seeing anyone argue that Lufthansa is the sole reason for it ... nah, the airport and the lack of attractiveness has to play a huge role when it comes to this. That's what I meant. In 2022 I had around 100 flights out of WAW and I had only one delay of one hour due to a deicing queue, any other flight was on time or had a delay of maximum 20 minutes. It was great, it just worked. At BER I had around 30 flights and I kid you not, probably 15 of them had some kind of delay, irregularity or stuff like waiting for an hour for your baggage to arrive. For me, it was just always an unpleasant airport to fly out of.

I absolutely hate it when I have to walk 3 miles from my gate to baggage like I’ve had to do a few times but other than that it’s cool.  Overseas:  Schiphol was pleasant and the views were beautiful flying out. Staff was really friendly too.  Doha sucked because they do not tell you which gate your going to board at until it’s closer to boarding time so if you have a long layover you’re aimlessly walking around or sitting around for hours in that tiny airport while having anxiety on where you’re supposed to be. Then it’s a 50/50 chance they’ll change your gate and make you migrate to the new one again.

Made the mistake of doing that this last weekend, and life was miserable. . - You check bags at T1 - Ticket says the flight goes from T2 - However, the reality is you oughta haul halfway across the terminals to get to Terminal B, which is where Spirit flies out of - Ah finally I'm at Terminal B, clear security - Happy I have an hour left, I go to grab food and spend 20 minutes - When I look at my gate number, I think meh, probably around the corner, as the gate numbers are shown in front of you - Finish food and start walking - 3 elevators, 1 long ass tunnel, 20 minute walk, running at some point realizing doors close soon - All with a stroller, three backpacks, baby, baby pillow, food bag, tired jetlagged ass, with no sleep - Barely make it to gate with 5 mins left - Happy to have priority boarding so somehow get in . . . FLY SPIRIT NEXT 5 HOURS.....FFS MF! LAX you suck!

Newark is kinda shitty but the worst for me was probably LAX. Changing terminals from international to domestic is like a 45min walk outside, the TSA lines are giant and half the people there have that pulled back lizard face. Pain in the ass to have a layover there after a 12 hour flight

Leeds Bradford UK, barely a window anywhere and without wishing to sound like a snob it’s full of drunk stag and hen parties. Short runway and windy so takeoff and landing are usually quite fun but the airport itself I hate

Worst ones... Here's my shitlist. Major American airports are known to be chaotic, but generally if shit hits the fan at least you know you'll be taken care of, and you can talk to them.  SFO is pretty bad because it's chaotic and not friendly to wide bodies. JFK is just... JFK. Do as you're told and generally you'll be taken care of.  Then going overseas... CGK - they couldn't figure it out for 2 runways. They now have 3.  MNL - expect a few STAR changes, frequent laser events, super saturated single runway operation, huge mountains next to the airport.  PVG/PEK. runway change hell.  Then there is India...  Favourites?  Osaka KIX is good... Until they redid the stars and sids for the expo.  LHR is among my favourites. Absolutely demonstrates what a busy, congested airport can and should look like. It's order in chaos rather than organized chaos like so many other busy airports are. It's stressful enough going there to keep you on your toes, but the controllers are all so calm and professional.  HKG is/was good. Post COVID 3 runways has a few problems for sure.

Melbourne (MEL) is not good. On arrival you’re crowded into a tiny customs area. Then you get outside and it’s just ugly. On departure-the traffic!!!! It’s really not a great introduction to Australia.

TGD (Podgorica) My local airport, holy fuck it's awful. Super small, super overpriced shops that sell almost nothing because they can't physically fit more shelves, the border control looks like a thin sheet wood tunnel, there is usually a single check in working for multiple flights, it looks like it's about to fall apart and hasn't been updated or renovated since the day it was built. The worst part? 20 dodgy taxi dudes staying in the terminal until 23:00 to catch some poor bastard and overcharge them.

Best and worst simultaneously is **Lukla** in the foothills of the Himalayas. _Best_ as it has some of the most iconic views anywhere on the planet. _Worst_ as its scrotum-tightening (if you have one) on the inbound, landing on a short uphill strip with a blank wall at the end, plus occasionally bits of planes lying around that didn’t quite get it right; and jaw-dropping on the way out because basically you drop off the end of a cliff. It’s worth it though. My worst in the traditional sense is Nairobi, landed in there just as the ground staff went on strike and was basically imprisoned in a transit lounge, followed by a riot trying to locate baggage and deal with W-jumping Austrians. The best is Schiphol, so calm and serene.

Best: I love both transiting and departing/arriving in SIN, so easy. Honorable mention to ADD for being nowhere near the world’s major hubs in terms of form but has consistently nailed it in terms of function imho.

CAN (Guangzhou) is such an easy airport to navigate in, both the domestic and international terminals.  LHR is terrible. Such an odd mix of underfunded and overly complex design. I know it's largely due to size issues and each terminal feeling as if they are randomly spawned without much thought, but even things like getting luggage or doc checks are awful. Odd place.

I haven't flown into many, but Waco has such a tiny airport for a city is size it was laughable. GFK and FAR have much nicer terminals and are way smaller towns. She lived flying into Lahaina, but I'm not sure if it survived the fires.

Well, I hadn't flown out of many, but, if I were to say... Probably a competition between Charles de Gaulle in Paris and Schiphol in Amsterdam. Granted, I flew multiple times out of CDG when I lived in Paris. Every non-Schengen flight was from a very small and crowded terminal section, without that many shops, even water being scarce. When I flew to Schengen for my connecting flights, there was this huge area, which even had PS4 game consoles for Demo. But the prices of food and beverage were so damn high. As for Schiphol, I have been there only once, on a connecting flight. Not only it was a maze to navigate through, but the worst part was the transition between Schengen and non Schengen. Because there was no transition. You would go from one building to the same building. Like you pass through the border gates, take a left turn, and then another one and you are back where you started. The worst part was that the number of border gates was very low compared to the influx of passengers. It took me one hour of waiting in queue to pass through

CYTZ. Sure it’s got great views but man the controllers are always in a mood cause they’re so overworked, there’s always that one pilot who busts their bravo, they’ve got the Porter guys coming in on IFR, a flight school doing circuits and so many more. The cherry on top is that the airport has terrible management that hates GA with a passion and a city that’s actively lobbying to put more restrictions in place.

Honorable mention for best is NPE because there’s no security! You just walk into the airport, check a bag if needed and then get on the plane! It’s as convenient as a bus. Worst: Newark and Manila. Newark has a very weird layout and going through security is tedious. I find security in most US airports tedious but Newark is a whole different level. The amenities is mid it at most. And Manila is just T1, other terminals are ok. I don’t like it because it’s operating beyond its capacity and is really cramped. I also dislike the additional security at the gate. Favorite: Amsterdam Schiphol. It has this retro vibe to it that I like plus I always arrive for my flight early just to chill on the rooftop observation deck. I also like how the train station is right below it so commuting is extremely easy.

Moroni (HAH) is probably the worst, at internationally, domestically was fine. They had two large planes leaving at the same time and the airport was not equipped to handle that. The immigration officer went on lunch with a queue of about 300 people left to process. No air conditioning, but thankfully I was in business class so I got to spend 5 minutes in the lounge with its portable air conditioning, but even then they made me sit down and stay in my seat and brought food to me.
