Need an MSP in melbourne where do I start?

Honestly you have some many options you could just Google MSP and bam. The problem is what you wanting could be done with a single internal staff and then a MSP on top. Last check my AUS msps cost me $150per hour for support for helpdesk.

When do you NOT create a support ticket?

EVERYTHING. Then in the future you have proof of everything. The only time a client can’t lodge one is when there computer isn’t working and you lodge it for them.

This judge is what's wrong with users and how IT staff are treated

Posted by tdhuck@reddit | sysadmin | View on Reddit | 532 comments

ryalln@reddit

There are two problems here the judges reaction and the IT staff. If this was a live court session and the tech has a headphone in. There is a level of professionalism required for each client. A boardroom meeting requires a different level of responce to hanging out with the maintence crew talking shit. I get the judge over reacted but there are two sides and both weren’t the best they could be.

What is your biggest time waster in IT???

Lack of decent quality responces. Read my email, answer each section and tell me what you don’t understand. That would saves hours across a year. Even a I got stuck at questions 3. But it did this instead. Not the “it didn’t work”

A wireless device with a camera and 5g. Or a iPad. All the gear in the world can’t help if you can’t direct. A dude with FaceTime and a iPad can be better than anything you send.

Why do vendors find your personal cell to call?

A line I spat out once l after telling them it’s my personal line was “wanna try your pitch again knowing all this info” the responce was “I don’t think I should even try”. Cold call sales can’t be making good money.

So I’m pretty brutal. Once I know it’s a sales call I tell them and I keep talking over them telling them to remove my contact details off there System. Then the next question I ask to confirm if it’s. Sales call. Only one person ever has said yes, I let him do his pitch. Gave him feedback and said I don’t buy from cold callers. Was funny. I only found out recently my coworkers can’t wait for me to get them because I’m very direct and call them out. Apparently I get louder as when they don’t list.

Ok like 2/3 business in a row the first thing I did was fix time. For some dumb reason people didn’t know how to update policies to point at a new DC. After that tonnes of little things like syncing and people being late to meetings just stops.

I have been playing with N8N for some of my automation tasks. Because I’m dragged thin I enjoy a clean interface where I can see what I was thinking weeks ago. So far it has integrations into most of what I require and I self host.

Sometbing I do, if a task has say a 5minute process where I click a button and wait. I don’t do anything else. If it’s longer I might read a page of a book. Some many dudes I watch are smashing multiple tasks at the same time. Talk shit with people and slow down and honestly will be better for it.

It’s all in context, helpdesk help no you can’t learn. For me a solo “manager” it’s fine because I’ve automated the shitty helpdesk tasks and maybe see them once a week. I do contract and long term planning. My issues are fighting a business who is cheap and fight for decent new gear.

Small teams (under 10 direct members), do you guys have personal relationships?

Welcome to my world. I 100% believe my office forgets about me as I sit in a corner away from windows and not visible to them. Only needed when things are broken, all my office non technical interactions are because I make them happen. Over time you let it brush off you or you slowly take the skills you have learnt and move to the next business where you matter. I’ve turned down job offers because there IT team lives in a dungeon.

It’s not always you it’s the business. Last got my team got along well however as there manager I wasn’t involved cause who wants to do dumb shit with your boss. Also I didn’t to hang out with high levers as who wants to dumb shit with your lower level employees. You have to find people in a similar level on your org chart. It sucks but that is how it is sometimes.

Cold calls are one thing. Unsolicited meeting invites are a whole new level of unacceptable.

One-man IT department here… is it time to bring in an MSP?

Posted by BlueDolphinCute@reddit | sysadmin | View on Reddit | 217 comments

ryalln@reddit

Reading this chain is interesting to see what people think of my org. No staff have Admin rights and from what I’m aware no shadow IT but that’s more due to lack of access. There are days I get lots of requests that are what I believe are dumb because staff don’t read guides but that’s would be everywhere. Compared to my last gig in a school with a constant flow of students and staff at my office door this is lovely.

My 2 calls today. 1 person most likely has saved credentials and the other didn’t restart. That’s it. When everything is Bassicaly a mirror image you can fix things and deploy as you find issues. Like what are the common repetitive issues you’re facing?

Think big, what is something you could do commonly between all clients and do that. Could be intune, could be pxe boot. But find the largest group and do them first and work backwards. If possible migrate some clients to similar setups otherwise you will support different solutions.
