What career can I switch to at 42?

There will be a boom in SQL jobs in a couple of years as the industry tries to react to poorly written AI code that leaves security vulnerabilities all over the place due to less experienced people deploying it and not sense checking anything. IMO.

Those people who pay for Mounjaro, what will you do in light of the recent announcement of the massive price hike?

Spin a sob story.. for fuck sake.. it’s people like you that’s crippling the country.. have some self fucking discipline and lose weight by exercising and eating right instead of burdening the NHS with shit you don’t need.

I had to wait 5 hours in A&E to be seen - is NHS actually improving?

I did read your reply, but you’re a grown adult. Going to a&e of a self proclaimed small cut on your head with a scab on is taking the piss. GP didn’t want to deal with it as they most likely couldn’t be arsed over something so trivial.

oddsock87@reddit

Would you not have gone to a walk in centre or an urgent care centre for a small cut on your head that isn’t bad, as opposed to going to accident and emergency which by definition is a department in a hospital dedicated to treating serious injuries and life threatening emergencies?

oddsock87@reddit

The simple reason people wait for hours in A&E is because their ‘accident’ or ‘emergency’ is not seen as that by the doctors and nurses that work there. I’ve had 2 experiences with A&E over the last few years with family members both seen to in a matter of minutes despite there being a load of people waiting and an electronic sign in one A&E dept saying it was a 5 hour wait. People take the piss quite often and go to A&E with very minor issues that can be dealt with at home or via 111.

What age will I stop telling my son to go back to sleep and start telling him to get up?! 😭

Parent of 2.. 9yr old and 5yr old. 5yr old wakes up at anywhere from 6-7am each day.. but given that I go to bed at 10am, I’m already awake as I’ve had sufficient sleep. Imagine thinking as an adult that c.6am isn’t early. It’s a normal time to get up.

Why is carpet underlay so expensive?

Posted by Kiss_It_Goodbyeee@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 34 comments

oddsock87@reddit

Don’t skip on underlay, if you’re buying an expensive carpet and put 4-6mm underlay down it’ll feel rubbish. Some carpet shops have offers for ‘free underlay’ but it’s usually 4mm or 6mm. You can buy a rolls Royce carpet and put free underlay down and it’ll feel crap. 12mm underlay can make a cheap carpet feel luxury. I’d always advise to get the thickest underlay you can afford. That being said, if the carpet is only going to be down a couple of years, or if you plan on moving etc etc then buy cheap underlay to save on costs. £10-£14 is far too expensive. 12mm underlay should be about £8 per m2. They may have rolled fitting costs into it

Sign up to jet2 which is free and then login and you get up to £400 off a family holiday. They also do free child places. Take a look at Rixos premium in Belek Turkey If you’re wanting Spain then I’d recommend any of the Zarifo hotels. Alfagar Alto Da Colina maybe in Albufeira, Portugal.

Morrisons. But I just checked online and they are a quid again. maybe they were just on offer for a set period. Even still, they were a quid for 5 like 15 years ago so they’ve definitely beat inflation!

Why is nothing seeming to sell on the 2nd hand goods market currently?

oddsock87@reddit

Everything I’ve listed has sold recently. As an example I’ve just sold a Sony mincam that has been in the loft for the past 15 years. had a look at sold prices on eBay c.£40-£60… listed it for £30 and it sold that day… same adverts on eBay for same item are still up now 2 weeks after I sold mine because they’re priced at£60+. If you want quick sales then sacrifice a bit of money and get rid of junk that you don’t need!

What is your opinion on Argos collection from sainsburys?

oddsock87@reddit

Fuck me, now I know why the country is going to shit. You’ve got people like this who haven’t got a clue about how to go into a shop and ask for your order. I’ll break it down. Walk in shop Find Argos counter ( if unable to find just ask a member of staff, “excuse me where is the Argos counter”) Once located ask the member of staff behind the counter “I’ve come to pick up an online order” Give them your order number Receive order from them Exit store. I mean, come on.

Why is the first year of school called reception?

Posted by UnlikelyAd3975@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 77 comments

oddsock87@reddit

That’s wrong. Pre-primary education is optional in Northern Ireland with preschool stage for children aged 3 and 4. In some pre-schools, pupils can leave when they turn 4 and enter into an optional Reception class in their local primary school. (This is entirely optional in most schools which provide these classes.) Primary education covers three stages – Foundation, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2. Foundation Stage Reception, age 4 (optional; see above note) Primary 1, age 4 to 5 (equivalent to Reception in England and Wales)

Daughter (3) now eligible for free nursery up to 30 hours, but nursery are still charging us by the hour to cover food and staff training. Is this normal?

oddsock87@reddit

One adult to 4 children at that age isn’t it? do the maths, doesnt leave much left over for gas, electric, chefs, admin staff, upkeep of building, perishables, wipes, and all the crafts stuff etc. That being said, the nursery kind of loses the argument when the owner turns up in a 22 plate Range Rover.

16 hours a week we got year round. Had to pay for 3 full days, got 2 days ‘free’ with a £10 charge each ‘free’ day for consumables. I seem to recall the nursery telling me that the government pay about £3.80 per hour for each of the 30 hours which isn’t even enough to cover an apprentice let alone a level 3 qualified nursery nurse.

Have you ever made a major purchase from a door to door sales person? I always politely turn them away but someone knocked today with something I actually need, still turned away but I'm thinking "what if"?

We had virgin installed on our street a few months back. Virgins sales came round and offered… wait for it.. To buy us out of our sky contract (14 months left at 100 odd pound a month) Everything we have now (sky & bt sports, multi room, cinema, broadband, Netflix etx) All for £48 a month for 24 months… And a £250 Amazon voucher. I told him that none of this was recorded and I would sign up if he let me record him telling me everything I would get, along with his name, managers name etc etc. He said no! Told him to leave it.

Got left 6k when I was 18 off my Gran. Viewed a house worth 70k and had a job where I could get a mortgage on it. Plan was to buy it with money and savings and rent it out. Everything was approved. I pulled out for no reason other than I want to go on a lads holiday and spent 3k on 2 weeks in Zante lol. House I was going to buy sold last year for 412k. This is my only regret. Did have some Bitcoin that I sold very cheap and made no money, could have had over 100k if I’d have held, but in reality I would have sold as soon as it went up a little bit more so don’t really regret this one.
