If you were prescribed 75mg and the pharmacist gave you 50mg then take the box back and the pharmacist can reissue the correct prescription. If you were prescribed 50mg then unfortunately you’re out of luck

That’s incorrect in the UK(though a lot of Western Europe has those laws). The police will not act even if the video is defamatory or libellous unless it breaks the law.

I’ve found a better response from reporting online rather than over the phone(work in a hospital so call the police a lot). Over the phone they seem to ignore what you say and blatantly lie about what is a criminal matter while something in writing tends to get a better response. Are you getting a crime reference number with each call?

How to deal with a schizophrenic man on a bus?

Posted by asriel_theoracle@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 67 comments

jcmush@reddit

I am sorry this happened to you, it was unacceptable in any way but unfortunately common. You did the right thing. My only concern is that if the spot you got off at was isolated then you may have been in more danger if he followed you. Unfortunately this is so common that the bus driver probably just ignored/blocked it out. They sometimes have silent alarm buttons that he may have triggered. Call 999 at the point you feel threatened. Do what you need to in order to maintain safety. Personal attack alarms are legal but you can’t have anything that can be construed as a weapon in your possession. British Transport Police have a good reputation but my experience(from working in a hospital) is that the police only respond after violence has occurred but hope they would act if a lone woman was at risk. Unfortunately my experience it is infrequent that the offenders are sectioned to a psychiatric hospital or receive a significant penalty(they might be cautioned or asked to write an apology). Again this is unacceptable. I really hope you’re okay

Are there any restrictions on 17 year olds flying in and out of the country alone?

Posted by MrMrsPotts@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 11 comments

jcmush@reddit

The UK is very relaxed from the regulatory side of things. Different airlines have different policies but even Ryanair allows over 16’s to fly unaccompanied. If they are flying in with a non-European passport then they might get more attention at immigration.

How much do you think an NHS dentist should make an hour?

Posted by FunnyNectarine1445@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 34 comments

jcmush@reddit

I’d say £100K per year which works out at about £60-70 per hour of clinical care. The take home after pension and tax would be roughly £5K per month. They can afford a nice house up North or somewhere a family can live in London. No private schools or Range Rovers.

jcmush@reddit

This is unacceptable. It’s also the grim reality for everyone who gets sick due to a perfect storm of things that have evolved over the past 15 years. I’m an ED consultant and our department has been so full of patients waiting beds that we are seeing new patients in the corridor or the waiting room. Waiting 48 hours for a bed is common and we have been known to get patients out of severe conditions and home before the bed comes back. Our department was designed for 80 patients(peek 100) and regularly has more than 200 so there’s no chairs for patients(or relatives) the toilets are full of god knows what(when you step over the needles) and the vending machines empty or vandalised. To add insult to injury there are no mental health beds so acutely psychotic patients are in the department for days waiting beds. They are distressed, shouting and screaming while we don’t have the staff or resources to care for them(our variant on psychiatric care is a cup of tea with diazepam). Finally, if you have a CRP of 400 then you need to stay. Get noice cancelling headphones, power banks and refreshments. It’s the worst long haul flight you’ve ever been on.

Do you agree executives of public sector orgs should be personally sanctioned for negligence?

jcmush@reddit

The problem with this is that it worsens the situation where no-one will take responsibility for making a decision. An organisation has a fixed budget and a large number of hazards to deal with. Not all of the hazards can be dealt with so they should identify and resolve the top hazards as rapidly as possible. This means bad things will continue to happen. The best response to these is to find out if something could have been done differently next time. Generally there were a number of tiny errors, each in themselves insignificant or well intended that led to the catastrophe(Swiss cheese model). A blanket decision to “name and shame” will lead to everyone spending all their time documenting, failing to make decisions and referring to committees

Can my landlord charge me 7k for false damages?

Posted by Jomanth@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 34 comments

jcmush@reddit

Did your landlord protect the deposit? If so then your first action be raising a dispute. If they didn’t then you are in luck and entitled to the deposit back and between 1-3 times the amount in compensation. Unless you caused significant demonstrable harm to the property(cannabis farm etc) then £7000 is ridiculous. Have they given you an itemised breakdown?

What can I do when the GP keeps making me see a practise nurse who doesn't do her job?

Posted by Cute_Swimming9940@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 76 comments

jcmush@reddit

Echoing some advice above. You can complain but why not change surgery? Different surgeries have different approaches to chronic disease management. A good practice will actively engage with asthmatics to prevent them getting to the steroid/antibiotic stage.

Has anyone filed a complaint against a private consultant?

Posted by Ok-Jaguar-5979@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 6 comments

jcmush@reddit

It’s simple to complain to the GMC. There’s emails/phone numbers on their website. Sexual harassment is taken seriously but they apply the civil standard of proof(balance of probabilities) so quite a lot of cases end up getting dropped. They also pass a lot of investigations on to the organisation involved. As you saw the consultant privately PALS would not get involved but there should be a written complaints policy for the clinic/hospital you used.
