Biggest problem with that is freight railroads own the tracks. You really need dedicated tracks for high speed rail. The cost of the right of way and cost of construction might be prohibitive.

Totally agree about the CTA. I rode it many years and still do when I go back. I tend to plan my accommodation around proximity to the L.

Why the powers that be want to get rid of DART now that the Silver Line is up and running is a mystery to me. I haven't used DART light rail yet since it doesn't go anywhere I need to be, but will be taking the Silver Line to DFW for an upcoming trip. When I was carless for two years, I used GoLink quite a lot, and found that good. I admit, I'm spoiled. I'm from Chicago and used the CTA and Metra extensively...

PISD is excellent. WRT Montessori schools, there are a metric crap ton of them in Plano. I respectfully suggest you do some more research.

This sounds great, but I'd need to know the departure times of the earliest and latest trains as well as the headways. I often take early morning flights out and late night flights in. Sounds great in theory (since I take the L from ORD or MFW} but I'm not sure about practice, especially since DART is taking about service cutbacks.

Tom Thumb on Independence and Parker is terrible.

I'm from Chicago, which is also a grid system. However, there's excellent public transit and they don't do road work on all major arterial streets at the same time, like they do here. Granted, it's a PITA when they decide to do work on the Kennedy, Eisenhower or Dan Ryan expressways, but they don't do it at the same time, with the major exception of the Jane Byrne interchange which affected all three.

It seems like Parker has been under construction since I moved here 10 years ago. What I don't understand is why all of it gets ripped out and redone time after time. Can't the city coordinate all the underlying work (e.g. new water/sewer pipes) with all concerned parties do it can be done at the same time? Maybe that makes too much sense...

Can't give you a specific recommendation, but you ought to try UT Southwestern. All the docs I've seen there have been great (with the sole exception of one female PCP who was a real witch).

I'm from Chicago, where there are 2 seasons: winter and road construction. I have never seen the CF that is road construction in Plano until I moved here. It seems like a never-ending cycle of fix something, rip it out and replace it with something different, rinse and repeat. What I'd like to know is who's getting paid off be the road construction firms. That was generally apparent in Chicago; here, not so much.
