Wi-Fi suggestions

My partner and I recently moved to Plano about a month ago. We moved into our apartment we got spectrum Wi-Fi. As of now we’ve experienced multiple outages and if you have lasted over an hour to two hours. Does anybody have any good recommendations for Wi-Fi? We both stream TV. My partner works from home and I play video games.

T Mobile is $55 /mo and works great. And unlike AT&T they didn't help foment Jsn 6.

Thankfully, our apartment complex allows us to get whatever provider we want. I’ve heard a lot of good things about frontier.

Frontier is great. Had them for about 4.5 years and I can only remember a few times I’ve had an outage that wasn’t related to power.

I second that! I've had maybe 5 minutes of downtime in 9 years. (Not related to power outages, apparently my complex is on the same feeder as a hospital.)

I third this! Frontier all the way. I see complaints about Spectrum outages weekly on my Ring app.

Switched from Spectrum to T-Mobile Home Internet at the end of 2024. No major disruptions/complaints with it, and speeds are more than decent depending on where your closest cell tower is located. They’re doing a promo right now where you can get a $300 prepaid Mastercard if you use the service for 60 days. So if you’re unhappy after 2 months, you could always leave and find another provider.

I recommend Verizon 5G internet if available in your area. I WFH and haven’t had any issues in 2 years.

T-Mobile home internet ftw. Plano has fantastic coverage everywhere. And they have good return policies if you end up being in a dead zone or something.

T-Mobile is iffy where I live. FWIW, Verizon also offers home Internet service.

Att fiber is pretty good Frontier fiber is also good Verizon and T-Mobile have wireless 5g service however the lag is huge like 100ms I know because my son likes to pay video games and was always complaining hahaha

Frontier's service is generally good, but their customer support is not. Expect at least one no-show for installation. If you can install your own WiFi router, you can avoid the cost to return the router at the end of your contact. Verizon is in the process of acquiring Frontier, so expect things to change.

we left Spectrum last month for the same reason. ATT&T is what folks recommended to me. I'm in an apt in West Plano

it wasn't bad equipment. it was them just stopping wifi usually in the early morning, a relatively new thing for them. no explanation and it happened all the time.

We have the AT&T wireless thing coming in the mail this week. Frontier is the only fiber option in our home and it goes out every 2-3 months. The speed isn't bad, but the billing sucks. They've cut us off for non-payment multiple times when we have autopay turned on. It takes a few hours to get it back up which is a hassle. Also, for an internet company their website sucks. The AT&T setup will be half the price of Frontier for about the same (reported) speeds. I also get a nice discount on our wireless too. Here's to hoping that it works.
