I think this is a case of “time will tell” years down the road, after build quality gets vetted out. I’ve heard of several instances where production of a car was switched to Mexico and build quality decreased. Now, I have no first hand proof, so this could be speculation or stigma being applied. But, the point remains that in these cases, it was publicized enough that masses seem to have formed the opinion that certain model years were worse because of where it was manufactured. And that CAN have an effect on perceived value of a car. Similar to many other products that may be MiUSA (for example) that are more highly valued. THAT being said, because of the experiences in my professional industry, I have a lot of respect for the LATAM people and their manufacturing capabilities. I also think there is great potential for quality, not solely that it’s a cheaper place to build cars. The tariff part of the equation does intrigue me. Because that, to me, would be a downside to making the switch in mfg locations now.

Actually a great comment. It baffles me that any person buy a new car. I’m fully aware there are upper class folks who to them, $70k is a drop in a bucket. But either there are WAY more people who have that kind of money, or people are living in debt. My wife and I make very good money and can’t imagine a $1,000/mo payment.

Are there any, ANY, cars that you are actually excited for to come out?

I’m honestly pretty excited for the Tiguan R-line turbo. The jump from 201 to 268hp is significant. It’s already a fairly high-regarded vehicle. A 33% power increase should add some fun factor.

Throttle house dudes are the bees knees. They’ve consistently been the best car review source anywhere - YouTube or elsewhere. And they have tough competition. Also they’re both seem to be well grounded people. Good diversity. They happened to have children each (surprisingly not with each other, jk ) who should now be or age where they can really thrive in the Grand Tour role. Good choice. I’ve been a silent but adamant watcher. Proud of them.

For sure, C&D is the closest. But nothing beats being able to flip page to page to compare cars. And I’m not that old - I know you can have tabs open, put screens side to side. It ain’t the same. No I sound old.

As a young kid I have a core memory of luckily getting to have a Motor Trend magazine that had the Viper announced. I can tell you, without a doubt, there is no comparison between car news in those magazines versus what we get online. They can try all they want, it won’t touch the old days. The back of every magazine had all cars from every manufacturer. Every spec that was important. MSRPs. There was no better way to plan for a car purchase - the only problem was that I was a 10 year old with no money. Now I have a little money to spend and learned that the way things are done now are much less efficient.
