Manual drivers, would you rather drive a stick shift 3 cylinder engine or an automatic 4 cylinder engine?

Hey, if that guy wanting to DM you wants to communicate on Whatsapp, has an accent, and talks about 1099, then fucking run like hell. And don't entertain shit coming out of Elk City, or anywhere in that region. The only reason he's trying to get ahold of you, is because he knows you're desperate, and is going to bend you over, and run it in dry.

How do truckers stay in shape?

So, what the hell are you supposed to do when literally every truckstop is packed in the evening, there's no rest areas and the ramps are illegal?

Get on Zillow, and look for commercial real estate for sale. You can find stores with empty parking lots that way. Kind of a last resort, but could help one day.

When should I call them? Or should I just have someone pick me up?

Posted by PurppQuotes@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 199 comments

TheFirstCrew@reddit

No, they gave me authorization to be on that road, and told me the best road to pick up next. Basically, it's CYA. Now I don't have to worry about a ticket, or making a bad situation even worse by getting in even more of a bind. If they didn't want me going down that road, they could come spot me, because that's easier for them than mountains of paperwork when something get torn up by a truck. Boils down to communication.

Oh yeah, I used the shit out of Google Maps. But as an interface. I route planned with the atlas, and made the route in Google Maps. More to it than that, but you get the idea.

No shit! I drove through some "closed to thru traffic" construction on some back roads once. No problem, because I wasn't going through, I was delivering right in that area. But the road I had to turn on was truck restricted. I immediately pulled over and called the cops. That's what you do when route planning doesn't work out. Thing is, "route planning" for most these days is punching an address into Google Maps, putting the truck in "D", and ripping someone's fender mirror off at 35mph on their way out of the Peelot.

Hourly guys, why drive so fast?

Can you recommend a good headset for talking while driving? My mom is a trucker and I want to get her something for her birthday something if the $60-$80 range

Thing is, they were perfect for like one year, eleven months. Then the rubber pad opposite the earphone started breaking, and the microphone stopped staying in place. Like they just completely went to hell over the course of a month.

You edited your original comment. If you'd been more clear to begin with, we wouldn't be going around in circles. Anyways, we hire green hats all day everyday. They still walk on making over a hundred grand a year. Kids in their early twenties. Anyone not scared to work can have what I have. This isn't some unattainable unicorn miracle anecdote from bygone times.

Oh I see. I worded it wrong. I started in the oilfield fifteen years ago. Took a three year break during those fifteen years, and started a trucking company. Then went back to the oilfield. But what does any of this have to do with anything? The oilfield hasn't changed in fifteen years.

I don't have any degrees, and worked in the oilfield for the last fifteen years, with a three year break when I started a trucking company. Why in the world would that sound condescending? I made over $200k per year for the last five years, and six figures for 14 of the last 15 years. Best part? These days, I don't even do much.

If you're merging it's your responsibility to merge safely. You're coming into other people's lane!

If I'm in the acceleration lane, I'm already making plans on how to merge. It's easier if everyone just maintains their lane and speed. Doesn't bother me one bit. I'm with OP on this one.

No, I would not be surprised at all, lol. Farmers as a rule, are incredibly smart. I have utmost respect for them. When I was growing up, we had a feed lot and 800 acres. Nothing huge. Just grew silage corn. When I was trucking, my favorite load ever was some hay from Leola, SD to Kansas. Guy unloaded me at almost midnight, and then we shot the shit for two hours. I enjoyed it so much, I deadheaded back up there to grab another load. I agree whole heartedly with everything you said.
