Do you like the UK weather?

Posted by No_Media2079@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 572 comments

TheDettiEskimo@reddit

I fucking love the weather we have. We have seasons (sometimes all in one day) we drove through the Cairngorms the other day and got Rain/snow/sun and then just gray and fair. It's the reason we have such beautiful lush green places. I go to places that are warm and it is just horrible seeing baron looking places.

What an urgent problem In the UK that NO ONE is talking about?

TheDettiEskimo@reddit

Yeah, I mean last summer I accidentally put some chicken in my main bin instead of my food waste (which is collected with every bin) and had a bin full of maggots so that was fun!

I mean I buy in bulk and decant. So a huge bag of rice or pasta is then in tubs. So less packaging. Cooking fresh does also reduce the amount and meal prepping for a week or two ahead. There are ways but it shouldn't be a necessity.

You have morals that a lot of the younger generation don't possess, and they see this as empowering which it is not. It would more than likely come back to bite them in the arse. This shit ends up all over the internet, behind a paywall means nothing.

Parents, what is something that the kids today do that you think is more wholesome than what previous generations were getting up to?

My son (6) was playing with his Lego the other day and said the guy was called Dr Gay. His power was he turned people Gay, he then said. " I don't even know what Gay is". The older boys call it each other it all the time. It's alive and well in schools!!! 🙂

Why are so many cereals so sugary/ why do people want so much sugar in the morning?

TheDettiEskimo@reddit

I basically make a batch for the week for work so 5 days is probably the limit, and they are damn delicious. It also takes about 3 mins to make so even if I forget I just do it before bed.

TheDettiEskimo@reddit

I mean there are only a limited number of ways to have Plain Cereal be it Corn/Wheat/Bran. If you don't have flavours to add you only get the option of the base ones. I have started just doing overnight oats. I know you said no to meal prep but literally throwing oats/yoghurt/milk in to a tub mix and put in the fridge is easy as. Then you can add anything you want to it or nothing. I usually add Frozen fruit and Chia seeds and possibly some Honey.

In the document it says the below: Strong. Highly offensive, requiring clear contextual justification. • Qualitative participants found this highly offensive. They felt it was never acceptable to use in a sporting context and trivialised sexual assault (see Chapter 3 of the summary report). So imagine making rape a joke, like prison jokes or mates saying something comical about rape. Which most friend groups probably do.

Why not reduce alcohol tax in pubs?

Posted by AtticusShelby@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 421 comments

TheDettiEskimo@reddit

Yeah I get that, but we shouldn't be enabling that and make it more accessible. I live in Scotland and we have minimum pricing and the same issue. I'm not getting into the moral/ethical discussion about those with addiction as I don't have a lot of time nor empathy for any of it, but if we can make alcohol less accessible and appealing and get it from being so engrained out of our culture with the younger generation that is a win in my book.

TheDettiEskimo@reddit

Yeah I get that. It does seem to come with a certain culture that I don't agree with. It can become a bit over powering and basically takes over. However I can't walk around my city now anyway without smelling weed literally everywhere. Even in the village I live in. So if it was legalised I wouldn't see much difference apart from maybe some less pungent ways to consume.

Yes my comment took In that consideration and even said I drink myself. Fucking hell wet Wednesdays were abundant last year. Doesn't make the point any less valid. Also, legalise all drugs is a ridiculous response.

I drink. Let me just preface with saying that. Had my first 2 pints of the year last night. However, the issue is basically what you have used as a reason. We should not be making drinking easy. They have hiked up the cost of fags and rightly so. However alcohol remains relatively cheap (not so much here in Scotland) and we need to be getting people off alcohol has a dependency and coping with a shit day. I have a mate at the moment who has lost his job, his divorce just got finalised and he came out of a relationship that he had after separating with his wife. His solution is to drink, not to excess but as to have a break from things and unwind. If alcohol was expensive maybe people would turn to healthier options to deal with their shit week. I say this full of hypocrisy, being someone who for the last god knows how many years has been waiting for that Friday pint.

I'm fine for people who genuinely can't work, or who it would be a detriment to them or others of they did work. However junkies and the like, should get fuck all. I was made redundant about 10 years ago from a job and to even get the minimum government support I had to prove I was looking for a job 30hrs a week. Yet a Junkie doesn't, my partner at the times dad had claiming for about 15/20 years as he knackered his shoulder working. Yet he eventually got a job driving that he could of got 15/20 years ago. He is now off again because of "long COVID" There may not be a cure all solution but the system definitely needs reworked. Just like the NHS and the Government. Too much admin & bureaucracy.
