45. Never being in a relationship before.

2 years ago. I’ve dated people but they’ve never wanted anything more, and led me on pretending they do when they knew full well I wanted to be a girlfriend. I miss being in one. I really do. Now, when I talk to new people, I’m extremely cautious and I believe nothing they say. I’m scared every man I meet will leave me so I end up leaving them first now. My last relationship really fucked my head up. We even tried again at the end of the year but he never asked me to be his girlfriend, he dumped me again. So now, I’m frightened of being in a relationship and I don’t actually know what I’d do if I was in one. All I know is I miss the feeling.

8 years I believe now. 41 y/o alternative male, narrows my dating pool. I don’t go out or drink.

efitchuk@reddit

Serious question here - what do you mean by “alternative” male? Interested as to how this would reduce your dating pool 🙂
View on Reddit #47653595

doctorbiffgood@reddit

Long hair, beard, tattoos, mainly dress in black. That’s a general description of an alternative male. And from that, it’s a clear niche that only a few appreciate and find desirable.

I’m sorry to hear that - I wouldn’t have thought that would be the case! 🙂

6 years, but the last year of my marriage was like being alone so say 7 years.... Never doing that again, my ex wife pretty much destroyed me and im not putting myself anywhere near that situation again.

I've been in your last year for 10 years or so. Look on the bright side.

Im sorry mate, i know its hard and i gave up everything. I ended up on the street living in a tent for a couple months but then i got a place in a homeless hostel and now i have a flat... Sometimes you have to give up everything and put yourself in a shitty situation before things get better. I knew i had to change when my ex wife was starting to make me feel like doing something stupid and very permanent if you know what i mean.. i had to get away and any place was better than there.

Aww. It's almost valentine's day. Perfect. That gives you a little time to organise that romantic reveal. She'll be so surprised she'll just scream with delight. Probably delight. Who said romance is dead.

I hate getting asked this question by others because when they ask it they’re coming from a stance of: ‘You are more reliable and able to have relationships if you have them more or have a background of being in long term relationships’ Which isn’t true. Someone having 5-10 failed 6monthly relationships isn’t more reliable than someone who has 1x 6month relationships in 10 years. So whenever I tell a girl or someone who asks and I say “Haven’t had a relationship in around 8 years, have always been sexually active. The reason I’ve never took it further is because I haven’t met a girl I see as being very much relationship material, or if I have then it hasn’t worked out. I will absolutely never just get in a relationship out of loneliness or neediness like plenty of people I see around me.” Then they usually take that as a positive response.

Almost 4 years. Which has not been enough yet to recover from the DV I experience(d). I tried online dating, had a couple of "nice" little flings which helped me rebuild some confidence. But it's not for me. At almost 42, I realise I'm happy to be single anyway. I miss some stuff of course but I lost the ability to trust so being single is much easier.

I've never had a proper one. I guess 6 years ago if you want to count the last significant person. It only lasted a month and she eventually ended up ghosting me. I think she's long forgotten about me. I've had a handful of dates since then, but I haven't been past the first date since her. For various reasons it's just something I've always struggled with. The apps are pretty bleak. My friends have sort of drifted away now they've settled down. I think I'm at the point where I'm starting to age out of drinking and nightclubs. I'm in that weird social dead zone in your thirties where everyone my age has vanished from social spaces. I work shifts and pretty much everyone I work with is a man. It sucks, kind of feel left behind and like I've missed the boat these days.

Over a year after a long-term relationship. Now, I seemed to have attracted an attention seeking woman, or maybe not who knows I can't be bothered asking if she is. Nearly 12 1/2 years… I’ve been on dates, none of them lasted more than a month before red flags started to show and I also had a fwb for about 5 years during this time (he moved away with his work so that obviously ended). Id rather be single now.

I settled with my 'first love' at 18. 21 years together with marriage and kids along the way. Around 19 of those were overall happy too, secomd-last one was tough, last one was hell. I met a diamond of a woman within a month of my ex-wife leaving me. We've been together 5.5 years now and we're still crazy about eachother, haven't had a single argument as yet. I try to be a decent, loving/caring and honest man. I like to think that's my appeal (as I don't have money or a big dick lol) but I'm possibly just a lucky bastard!

When I was younger I met a really pretty girl with the most amazing figure I'd ever seen... breasts made of marble! She was from my (fairly large) home town. She told me that she'd only ever had one boyfriend and had been single for two years. I met her when I was home on leave from the army and things progressed really quickly due to me only have two weeks off. For days we didn't even go outside unless it was to the shop or to get clean clothes. Next time I'm home I see her again. I wanted to take her out to the pubs / clubs and show her off to my mates. Usual stuff. She said she didn't like nightlife and just wanted to spend time with me... which was always either on the sofa watching a film, or on whatever surface we felt like at the time. Anyway, my best friend pops round, comes in, sees her and clams up. When he's walking out I start to have a pop at him for being rude. He hits me with the bombshell that she was the school / college / club good-time girl who'd apparently been with anyone who asked. No indicators whatsoever. I was shellshocked. She was holding everything she'd brought with her by the time I walked back into the house. She left without saying much, if anything.
