If you're at a finger buffet with bowls of unmarked crisps, what flavour are hoping for and what flavour ruins your day?

I don't avoid foods where it's not impossible to avoid touching the other items, just those where it is. For example I love me a tiny triangle sarnie and will happily wolf these down as it is not impossible to pick them up without touching the others. But I'm not going to be eating crisps, nuts or anything else that has unavoidable "hand backwash". > You're not wrong, but avoiding the finger buffet at a family gathering because people are grim is just saying your family is grim. I'm not sure what point you were hoping to make with this, I have no doubt that my family has just as many people who don't wash their hands before touching the buffet or little kids wiping their noses on/coughing on their hands as anyone else's. It's just what people in general do. Even at my dinner table we have a strict "if you touch it you eat it" rule for "help yourself" dinners as I want my children at least to go out into the wider world respecting others. And there is no "unwritten social contract" about having to eat food other people have touched. If there were one it would be "provide tongs/spoons for your buffet and use them".
