What do you think about Viktor Orbán losing the elections in Hungary tonight?

Not America. Vance and Trump. Most of us are reasonable people who didn’t vote for them. I hope this is a sign that right wing authoritarianism is on the decline.

Social Security benefits predicted to run out earlier than expected: Report

I'm not sure I would attribute the euthanasia initiatives to financial motives. When we start seeing more red state governments showing openness to it, then I might agree. Right now, there are 13 states that authorize medical aid in dying and they're all blue states except Montana, interestingly.

NGL, it hallucinated one article from 1994 that when pressed, it said didn't exist. I know it can straight-up manufacture things, but there were lots of results I was able to independently verify.

Exactly. This country has funds to do all sorts of things, but god forbid we do anything to help secure people's financial future. We've got 200 million plus going to ads and recruitment for DHS/ICE, and who knows how much more for a fleet of luxury private jets. But hey, let's put everyone's retirement on the chopping block every 2 years so we can win elections. /s

I'm right there with you. I think every election year, they trot out this old trope of the SS trust fund running dry, and we all think it means they're letting SS die. 1. the trust fund has been predicted to run dry for decades now and it hasn't happened, and 2. it wouldn't mean we'll get nothing, it means we'd get 25-30% less (assuming they don't stop collect the tax). Still sucks, but less scary.

Nothing new. I asked ChatGPT to show examples of these headlines going back 20-40 years and it had plenty of examples. I won't post results here, lest I be roasted, but you can research for yourself. Also, something I didn't know, the trust fund running out doesn't mean benefits cease. It just means benefits would only be funded at 70-75% of what they were. this article is from April 28, 1998 and also predicted 2032 as the year the trust fund would run out. [https://www.cbpp.org/sites/default/files/archive/424socsec.htm](https://www.cbpp.org/sites/default/files/archive/424socsec.htm) "Social Security will not be bankrupt when the trust fund surplus is exhausted after 2032. The trust funds will continue after that year to receive large sums from payroll tax collections. The problem is that after 2032, according to the trustees' calculations, the incoming taxes will be sufficient to cover about 70 percent to 75 percent of the benefit payments rather than 100 percent of these costs"

What’s something you use every single day that turned out to be insanely worth the money?

Posted by Dry-Frosting-@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 1035 comments

StunningCode744@reddit

An immersion blender. I use it almost every day. So much easier to clean than those little blenders for smoothies. I use it to whip eggs for omelettes (so nice and fluffy), smoothies, frozen cocktails, and for cooking. I make a blended no-cook pizza sauce from canned tomatoes and I make a killer marinade from canned chipotle peppers with it. I could go on and on.

Question for Gen X: Whats Your Relationship With Texting?

Posted by Al3x1ya@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 2356 comments

StunningCode744@reddit

Really depends on context. Are you texting while he’s working? If I’m working and trying to focus, I’m going to be annoyed with my text notifications going off repeatedly, regardless of who it’s from. If it’s a whole conversation and I don’t have time to deal with the back and forth over text, then yeah, a phone conversation is preferable if it can’t wait until I’m free. My spouse knows if I don’t respond right away that I’m in focus mode and doesn’t take it personally.

Commune living as aging Gen X

Posted by jaunty_azeban@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 208 comments

StunningCode744@reddit

A few of us have been talking about the same thing. There's so much waste having single people or couples living in single-family homes, each with their own houses and yards to maintain, taxes, utilities, etc. We've joked about buying a big compound and all living in it. What others have said about occupancy rules and stuff would be the big issue. I can see a future where GenX starts this and Millenials take it to the next level and make communal living more common than single family home living.
