When you reach the age that the person you are talking to is no longer male or female, I guess? I only refer to male and female homo sapiens as Ma'am and Sir. It isn't age related at all. It is a respectful term for someone for whom you do not know their name.

I have a small company with less than 100 employees in 4 states. I give everyone a minimum of $1,500 per quarter. More if it is a good quarter, or if that particular employee went above and beyond for that quarter. If I have to make someone work on the weekend with short notice? Extra $500 on the paycheck, plus the OT. I have premium talent and compete against regional, national, and global firms. I have to pay well to keep the talent. Our small numbers mean our benefits are more expensive, naturally. So I have to supplement that with above market average compensation. Capitalism allows me to compete with the big boys. I love it! I try to be very careful when determining the workload requires any additional staff. You have to make sure you just arent in a small, busy period. The last thing I want is to hire someone when we are busy, get caught up, and then have to let them go. You have to take care of the people who attach their families' finances to your wagon, right? I'll also tell you that as the owner I have the 5th highest compensation package at my company. If someone has to take it on the chin at the end of the year it will always be me.

Why do step parents in the US refer to their children as step son or step daughter, instead of just saying son or daughter?

People who adopt in the US don't refer to the children as "step" either. Marrying a single mom doesn't result in an adoption here in the US. Men have rights to their children here. Where do you live?

The numbers you have given for animals per location are the same as our places here. The US just may have a lot more places due to it maybe being a larger, more populous country. I dont know where you are from, so that is just a suggestion, of course. You would know better than I about your country's population numbers. Maybe compare the populations and see if that provides you with a reason.

Cure to cancer,maybe?

Posted by HorriblePasta@reddit | CrazyIdeas | View on Reddit | 31 comments

ScytheFokker@reddit

My teacher brought us a peer-reviewed study where scientists had isolated a compound from North American Copperhead venom that prevented cancer from "latching onto" human tissue or something. I can't remember the exact scientific specifics as I was maybe 11 or 12 at the time. This would have been '87 or so. It stated specifically that while it didn't eradicate or destroy the cancer, it did render it virtually ineffective because it couldn't grow and gain ground on tissue. Very cool classroom discussion. Obviously, the tech didn't pan out or was purchased and buried.

The tone of that post overwhemingly supports the comment you are responding to. Everyone outside of high schoo knowsl OP never even gets the land he needs with 6 million.

Both kids are massive hair metal nerds. My 18 year old pilfered all my old concert tees and wears them all the time. People my age challenge her to name songs on the album of the shirt she is wearing. She always asks them if its ok if she starts with side B as she likes it better. Then lists the songs. Gotta say, my kids are pretty awesome people. I'd love to take credit. We showed them all we could. Told them all we could, but they are the ones making (mostly) good decisions. All the credit goes to them.

I may just be in different circles. All the parents I know are scared shitless of teen pregnancy and provide condoms at a ridiculous amount, lol. It's become a running joke amongst the kiddos. They compare the condoms. It is always gonna come down to their decision-making in the heat of the moment. My kids told me that out of all the discussions we had, and there were plenty, the pictures of herpes affected genitalia solidified the message. It helps to also helps not to frame the sex discussion to be such a big important discussion. Bring it up freely and often and make sure it isn't some taboo subject. Of course, you may set yourself up for your 9-year-old to ask what "Wine me, Dine me, 69 me" means. (That one took a year off my life) My wife and I agreed early on that if they were old enough to ask the question, they were old enough to hear the answer, full stop. We just tried not to be uptight or judgmental.

Correct use of contraceptives requires decision making and action on the children's part. Teachers cant even get them to write their name on their papers half the time. I think you're being incredibly optimistic.

I prefer it my way. Don't assign any weight to words spoken to you while dripping with venom. It's much easier and less involved. "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me."<--- we all learned this simple concept as children growing up. It is plain to see that people aren't being taught this principle anymore.

Release all horses back to the wild

Posted by 2popcorn9000@reddit | CrazyIdeas | View on Reddit | 115 comments

ScytheFokker@reddit

All horses? Or just the breeds that were wild? Many breeds (most) have never been wild to begin with. They have been created by humans through selective breeding. If it is all horses then "back to the wild" isn't an accurate description. Most breeds wouldn't make it a single year outside captivity and care. A lot of them will literally eat themselves to death if their diet isn't curated by an outside influence. Great sentiment, though, if you stick to once wild breeds.
