At my last company I tested it and held my hand to my head like I was on the phone. It dinged me for distracted driving and using my phone. No phone was in my hand.

What do you do when receiver wants you to arrive earlier because the previous driver doing it was arriving earlier ?

Lol drivers like me? Dude I don't go to shippers or receivers. I've done my time and I have a very good job doing local stuff. I make probably twice as much as you. Keep the job you have because in the real trucking world you wouldn't make it bud. Fucking moron

I love that you're new and inexperienced and asking for tips and then arguing.... Also as a new driver you really don't have the experience to be calling someone else a super trucker.

Years ago at the Tehatchape (spelling?) Loves an rv was parked sideways and got blocked in at night and the truckers wouldn't move. The RV owners threw a fit and got loves management involved. Loves management told the RV they were trespassing and had to leave and they weren't welcomed there ever again. It was amazing to watch

Sounds like you got lucky. This company sounds like a nightmare and the only care about you getting shit delivered fast. Slow is steady steady is fast. When you rush to get shit done is when bad things happen.

We ALL know this company...😂🤣

I did local lumber delivery for 8 years. Multiple loads a day for 8 years. I do not understand how people can have shit like this happen. I had many instances where I had to slam on my breaks and never had the load shift or fuck up like this. It's not hard to throw an extra strap or two and make sure the shit is secure.

If a receiver holds you for 30+ hours and offers no bathrooms, where you going to the bathroom?

They don't have anyone for 30 hours to unload you? Tell them you're leaving. When they want their shit they can call you but it's going to be $18,000. Your boss needs to get on the phone with them and raise some fucking hell. I hope you get out soon. Don't ever take a load there again. And tell the broker you need a shit ton of detention pay.

Friendly reminder

I did construction supply mostly lumber to job sites for 8 years. I've been in many places not even a 10wheeler should have been with my truck and trailer.

Not all the time but yes I have had to deal.with it. Not this extreme but I had to get out and clean all the dunnage off the truck that they should have removed.

I've been local for 8 years. 7 at the company I'm with. I work m-f 5-till 8m done for the day. I have amazing benefits a shit ton of PTO and a company cell phone. I don't have to stress where I'm parking the truck or sleeping every night. I make A LOT more money than I would be otr. Some days I will do 300 miles. Most days it's 20-100 miles. I have had days where I never even hit the freeway. Best part is I am home every night. Yeah local is better.

Yall think he did his pre trip?

Dudes local. As a local driver I wouldn't mind having one. Today I drove 60 miles total. Some days I will do 200. I have had days where I did 30 total for the day. As a construction delivery driver I don't always see alot of miles.

I was an HVAC installer for about 10 years and then had a ladder slip out from under me. I broke my knee and tore my PCL from the bone and ripped my ACL. It was a traumatic injury and was couch ridden for 6 months. My workers comp ended when I was released from Drs care so I needed a job but couldn't go back to construction just yet. I took a job at a call center that was only going to be short term. 6 weeks there i got a promotion to taking supervisor calls and doing floor support. Then a year later became a trainer. Then 6 months after that got moved to a team lead. During all this I had a relationship end and I got stuck with the house payments and other bills on my own. Wasn't making enough to survive so I took out a small student loan and went to CDL school. It was great because it was 2 hours a night after work for 3 months. Right before I tested for my CDL I accepted a job with a company that would train me and give me tuition reimbursement. Was with a trainer for about 3 months (I requested the extra time to make sure I was ready for solo) and when I went solo since I was single me and my dog just stayed out for 4-6 weeks at a time. I was trying to get as many miles as I could. After 2 years of OTR I was able to get a local job making more money with a concrete company as their bulker driver. 9 months of making good money we slowed down and I went from 65-75 hours a week to 12. I couldn't pay bills off of that so I looked for a new job. I have now been with a construction supply company for over 7 yrs. I make more money now than I ever would have in HVAC or at the call center or even doing otr. I work m-f and have a company cell phone and amazing benefits. The company I work for is a huge multibillion a year nation wide company so if I ever want to move I can just transfer to a different yard in the place I move to. With my experience now pulling a refer and dry box and pneumatic bulker and flatbed and having dump experience i can pretty much go anywhere to drive. I used to have my hazmat but I wasn't using it so I let it lapse but if the money is right I will get it again. If you're thinking of getting your CDL I suggest you do it. If you get tired of driving you can always go back to what you're doing now. If you keep your CDL you will always have something to fall back on.

Will I make 70 miles going 70mph?

I been a local construction material delivery driver for over 7 yrs now. 5 yrs doing lumber. I load and unload myself. Sometimes I miss OTR but shit like this is what keeps me from going back.

How do people justify being OTR?

Posted by Live-Door3408@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 219 comments

RowbowCop138@reddit

I was single and in a shitty spot financially when I got my CDL. Going OTR was amazing for me. I got to travel the country with my dog. I was able to take friends with me. For the few years I did OTR it helped me get back on my feet. My power bill was like 45 bucks a month and my gas bill was 12. I didn't have to spend money on gas for my car and wear and tear was minimal because it was parked. I got paid multiple times a week because the company did pay roll every day. If I sent paperwork in by 10 am I'd get paid the next day for that run. I was able to save money get caught up and get experience under my belt.

I just gotta say, I love tailgaters.
