Car hauler or tanker?

Posted by ZombieMurker95@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 9 comments

RoadStocks@reddit

Tanker hazmat. More opportunities and more cash. Lot of 30-40$ jobs even in class b range. Only thing better is ups feeder at 45/hr but thats like hitting the lotto in trucking

I haven’t worked since 2019 and I’m having a hard time finding a job as a new CDL holder

Posted by OF-Trucker@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 45 comments

Lie. They only check cdl related jobs unless its a fairly good gig lile amerigas cli sheetz ups etc. Also be sure to run your resume through an AI chat bot asking for it to keep in mond of keywords and make changes for you, to get around employers auto filtering out resumes using their own AI. Shit works and can vouch

How to be a good GF for my trucker BF

Posted by honestly___idk@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 68 comments

RoadStocks@reddit

Dont get upset if he cant answer the phone or text back for hours. Lot of places will fire someone for it. So its no small thing. Even if the camera faces outward only, reflections in the window can be a bitch. Not me but seen it a ton lol. Find a way to do stuff together when far apart still. Doesnt ha e to be sexual. Me and my wife gamed pretty much every night. Eventually hell want local anyway cuz there is no money in OTR. If so help him find jobs paying 30-40+ an hour with OT. (And yes despite being rare they do exist in rural low cost areas, most people refuse to believe that tho lol)

Question about HOS in non-CDL vehicles.

RoadStocks@reddit

I think it depends on the radius you go too. Im local tanker hazmat in a 33k truck, and we dont use elogs at all for my routes. Its not a small company flying under the radar either so nothing shady going on. I put 73 hours in last week and its not a violation of any kind.

Ever wonder what a weekly check look like as a rookie? Well here ya go

Posted by Gromieee@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 347 comments

RoadStocks@reddit

Fuck? I do 300 a day just local and mostly 45 mpg mountain back roads 😂. Sometimes less 30-35. So 1500 week hourly lol Screw that. Hourly or bust.

RoadStocks@reddit

I have one as a local driver and they’re no issue for me. I think locals whining about them are blah. But OTR inward? Fuck no. Off duty privacy invasion can go fuck itself even if its audio only from you covering the video. None of their damn business what me and my wife talk about etc. They say theyre not on but unless that camera turns off when you are “off duty” immediately theyre full of shit. Lot of lawsuits around those things from otr people.

Anyone else ever do this?

Posted by DDClown502@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 33 comments

Thats funny shit. Na never did this but i make tons of other dumbass mistakes, like driving over my chocks and making them explode because I forgot I put them down (Im local lol)

Thoughts on the importance of choosing the right trucking school?

Posted by Parks417@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 23 comments

RoadStocks@reddit

The choice of school isnt so much for being hired as much as it is for your “own” reasons. Its important but its important for “you” not a random company so pick well

Should I take the next day off after having my wisdom teeth pulled?

Posted by Mediocre_Ice_8846@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 33 comments

Dude even BOOT CAMP in the military makes recruits take 4/5 days off for getting wisdoms pulled, you know, the one place on earth thats actual hell 😂. That should say everything. It would be lile trying to work during your first rona virus. Hell na dude. Be off work

You already park in a rest area man. Think about it, stay there? Or go where a bunch of loud ignorant assholes are blowing regens and reefers. Stay at the rest area is what I did before local

Do all companies do this?

Posted by Alkanfel@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 33 comments

They can get sued for that. Start making logs and take photos of all their messages. No sane judge is going to think someone can get off work at goto sleep within seconds. Being told to drive fatigued is illegal

Average price for a good class A course?

Posted by Victorvnv@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 11 comments

RoadStocks@reddit

Lot of good factors mentioned. To me, it doesnt matter if its only a 2k course and 4 weeks if the truck to student ratio is like fuckin 30 to 1. Imo thats the biggest thing. Mine I remember we had 2 students for each truck and 1 full english only teacher per 2 students. Doesnt get better than that. For 4500/4 weeks

Posted by iiHartMemphisii@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 33 comments

RoadStocks@reddit

The best jobs are local ones anyway. Sure you prob wont get those until 21+ with endorsements either, but the intrastate argument with people is silly to me. Who cares if there is a LOT more $$$ for being local lol. That said, thats why you shouldn’t get your own rig.

Is being a trucker worth it?

I live in a rural as hell area making 31/hr with OT. Worked 72 hours this week because we have an HOS waiver. 3k in 1 week of work. And my bills are under a gran per month, including phone/food. So you tell me lol Now megas otr or cpm $ is another story. Ill never go back to that life. Full of fuckin pay scams

Tips or advice?

Posted by tonybrown96@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 11 comments

RoadStocks@reddit

The only thing you get really good at, at first, is managing being nervous. Once that goes away you’ll realize you drive it just fine. But ya that can take months. Then when you get into something new like local tanker hazmat, in snow, in crazy mountains, on driveways not even cars belong on but somehow a truck gets in, nerves get maxed out all over again. But by now you know how to manage the nerves at least lol

I had a choice between them or schneider “bulk” when I started. I went bulk and “at the time” my god was that a mistake, however I was able to do local tanker hazmat work after just 7 months and get away from them If you only plan on dryvan, go dht

Getting fragile gaming PC hooked up on the road?

Posted by mrockracing@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 19 comments

Why risk it or take up the space dude? I gamed off of my 4090 when I was dumb enough to do OTR. And the PC never entered the truck. Nvidia shield + strong internet and stream from your pc at home

How flexible are your days on/off as a new trucker?

Posted by _perfectsilence_@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 94 comments

RoadStocks@reddit

Its gonna vary wildly man. OTR long haul you basically make your own schedule as long as you get loads there on time, its non stop 70 hrs a week usually but you pick when to start/stop. You’re not getting a 3 days on 2 off as otr lol Local mostly is either 5x10/12 or 4x10/12

Is $16.50 an hour a bad rate for bus drivers for 40 hours a week?

Posted by Lyosea1994@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 75 comments

RoadStocks@reddit

Not sure why downvoted. If people check the voting map all the blue areas are where wages are dogshit, never gonna apply zones. Im on the va/tn border and its basically PURE red, and the average hourly wage for both b and a truckers here is 30-35, and sheetz is right around the corner for 40/hr. There are a few idiot companies trying that 22-25$ bs but no one applies. Ads sit there for months now lol

What’s up with the lack of follow through on job applications

Posted by PowerUpTheLighthouse@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 18 comments

RoadStocks@reddit

#3 is spot on, even for the good gigs. The best way around it is to actually harass chat gpt and give it your resume saying make edits, reminding it to keep in mind another AI is reviewing it. And ya it totally worked. I got 9/10 replies from an actual human doing that, and of course, I filter job listings to ones posted only in the last 24 hours. Got a killer local job after the fact

When do I become an experienced driver?

Posted by CicadaEE01@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 41 comments

RoadStocks@reddit

First thing is do the math on pay yourself. All these people claiming 100+ a year arent even LTL or local, which tells me they’re full shit and just sticking to the belief that they’re earning that much. If theyre not gross 2k a week theyre not pulling 100+. Most newbs get 7-1200 gross if they goto otr

I refused to not game 4090 on the road which pretty much meant i setup moonlight on my Nvidia shield in the truck, and sunshine off github on my 4090 pc at home and just game streamed to it. Biggest issue was latency with tmobile home, but it got the job done and no pc in truck at all lol

Posted by bentstrider83@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 28 comments

A “job” sure, easy. A “good” job, na. Take a few months of looking and a little dash of luck. The only place id relocate to without a trucking job ahead of time is middle of Ohio

Need advice, food grade tanker or no-tarp flatbed

Tanker is long term better but idk about “that” tanker gig. Tbh sounds like ass. KAG or a local tanker haz place would be better
