£90-something Tesla Model 3 on a company car scheme.  I had a bit of a project/hobby car for a bit but I got rid of it because I can charge for free at work. Resent paying for fuel now 😂

Fired for Gross Misconduct — How Do I Rebuild My Career?

Posted by Leading-As1283@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 237 comments

Returning_Addict@reddit

I can only tell you my experiences. But I have, on many occasions, being asked by people conducting references for an "off the record" chat. In my experience most companies don't actually check references, but if they do, they won't shy away from getting to the truth. No HR person is going to be putting their neck on the line by getting an unofficial reference.

Because they’re astonishing good value on a company car scheme, I got mine before Elon went full Reich. The determining factor between the Tesla and other EVs was the supercharger network which I find extremely convenient and cheap. I’ve still got 18 months on this lease but at the end of it I expect I’ll get another unless there’s transformational change in the availability and price of high speed chargers

Should I be Donating o- blood or plasma?

Posted by -jsb@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 36 comments

Returning_Addict@reddit

I’m AB+ and I’ve started donating blood recently, I asked about donating plasma as I can’t imagine AB+ (universal recipient) is particularly useful as blood, but the nurse taking my blood didn’t seem to have a strong opinion on if one is more useful than the other. I could donate plasma, but it’s a bit of a faff as I’d have to travel about an hour away. It’s actually quite difficult to determine which is more in need as each respective website (understandably) just makes the case for whatever they’re collecting!

Because they don’t care one iota if it gets to you, if you’re happy, if they do a good job. They’re collecting a few £’s in the ‘gig’ economy. Nothing more nothing less

Tesla Model 3 Long Range, on a company car scheme.  I rate it highly, it’s absurdly cheap, almost no BIK. Free charging at the office & the supercharger network is widely available and also pretty cheap. I’d take another in a heartbeat

What would be your, 'That's it, I'm leaving Britain' moment?

I’m an additional rate taxpayer & already feel like I pay a punishing rate of tax. I’ve worked and lived abroad in the past and could happily do so again. I’ll be watching the next budget carefully. I’m currently considering moving to The Netherlands for a new role & if I’m expected to pay an even higher level of tax come October it will probably be the deciding factor to move.

How to stop stranger to talk to me ~ am I overreacting?

Yeah, I’m not sure this went down exactly as described. Walking my dog is a wonderfully social activity, I speak to people of all ages and backgrounds. There’s a lot of elderly people near where I live who are very socially isolated, they seem to be much more willing to chat when there’s a little dog to fuss over.

Are 1 page CVs the new norm now?

Returning_Addict@reddit

Currently recruiting for a couple of mid senior roles. I have a strong preference for 2 page CVs.  I get a lot of 4-5 page CVs filled with absolute guff. I don’t care about your weekend job in school when you’re being hired in a professional commercial field. For that matter I don’t care about your grades either if you went to Uni.

I don’t have kids, but have 3 nephews and a niece. I buy them Christmas & Birthday gifts. I don’t expect anything in return. I’d say yes, there is an expectation you buy your child relatives gifts.

I’m 35, just changed roles and for the first time earning 6 figures before bonus. I’m a Senior Commercial Manager. Spent most of my career in the shipping industry but now in a large construction company. Change companies every few years, ask for at least 15-20% more each time you do and it racks up pretty fast. The job market is very buoyant just now.

Paid about 8k for an 09 Range Rover a couple of years ago. Costs about 450 a month to run. Just about to take delivery of a new Tesla model 3 through work. Costs £25 a month in benefit in kind tax. Free charging at the office. Anyone want to buy a Range Rover?

I was in charge at a location he was filming in once. Nice guy, really interested in how the place worked and signed autographs for some of the staff/took selfies with them. Also once met the three of them in a bar in South Africa. They were all friendly and chatty while we finished our beers!

How often do people get sacked where you work?

Medium sized business (1,000ish employees) 2 People have been let go for gross misconduct, 1 for failing a drugs test. As a rule we try not to fire people, if someone isn't performing in their role we'll support them as best they can or transition them to a different position if possible. Sometimes people don't really want to stay so we come to an agreement to pay them a couple of months salary so they have a cushion to rely on while they look for a new job.
