They are bringing in the EES system so basically itll be replacing passport stamps, still take your passport with you, there’s no cost for it to be set up and they’ll take fingerprints and a photo of your face I think? Chances are you’ll do that before you leave the UK border and it should last for 3 years before you have to redo the same process, but check the UK government website for foreign travel advice as that’ll be based on having a British passport

As per other comments, passport and GHC card should be all that you need.
However, note that from late 2026, it is planned that you will need a Visa Waiver in the form of an "ETIAS" which you will need to obtain before travelling. So, watch out for that if you are travelling again.

Just your passport - and travel insurance.
Very easy journey.

The only thing to add to other comments about passport and insurance - make sure your passport has at least 3 months left on it.

Whenever you travel abroad you should always check this website:
https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice
It tells you exactly what you need to travel as a British citizen, what you need to know and be aware of.
It is regularly updated to so you should always check it even if you are visiting a country you have been to before.
Far better to trust official sources rather than random work colleagues or people on Reddit.

Not a travel requirement, but a really good idea:
You should get a GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card). It’s completely free, you get it from the NHS website.
Be careful as there are a lot of scam websites out there which will charge you for one. Always make sure you are using the official NHS website to get a GHIC.
**It is not a replacement for travel insurance**. You will also need travel insurance. But the GHIC helps you access urgent healthcare when abroad at the same price as a local (if it’s free for a local, it’s free for a GHIC holder)
But please make sure you get travel insurance too. Don’t think “it’s only France, I won’t need travel insurance”. You absolutely do! Travel insurance can be very cheap, as low as £5-£10 (obviously deepens on your situation) so don’t skip it.

You don't need it but you absolutely should get a GHIC. It is free from the NHS and will cover some medical treatment while in the EU.

Yep, GHIC. Even if you're really stubborn about insurance, if you have a GHIC then at least the medical side is covered, and you're mainly just gambling with having to pay for more accomodation and new tickets back home if you have some sort of incident or illness.

Details of your travel/health insurance will hopefully not be needed, but if they are needed you will be glad you had them.

Passport and travel insurance and you’re good to go.
Jeoh@reddit
That's it, right now. At the end of this year you'll need ETIAS: https://travel-europe.europa.eu/en/etias

Just a passport, it’s a very straightforward entry and exit process. Even if you have to use the new biometric machines. Took me about 40 seconds yesterday.
