Western Express just assigned me a load that has “chargeback”. If it’s late, they charge the driver (me) $200. Is there any truth to this???

When're we gonna stop glorifying and normalizing 70 hour work weeks?

i work about 50 hours a week and make ~$80k a year working 10 months out of the year. Anyone that says something like "If you're not maxing out your clock, you're not a real trucker" is just a sucker and deserves their 70 hour week.

At least for the rig I was driving, it was a lever that you moved forward or backwards depending which way you wanted the drum to spin, and it was in just about the worst possible spot. I was constantly hitting it with my elbow as I drove down the road. Assuming that he was traveling somewhere near the speed limit, it looks like something similar happened because he dumped that load pretty quickly.

Gurney Trucking in St. George, Utah had a driver call and tell the dispatcher he wasn't feeling well and needed to sleep. She told him he needed to keep going. He ended up passing out, crossing the median and killing a college girl traveling the other way. But the most surprising thing about this incident is that they let her keep her job, and a couple years later I was in a similar situation and she actually tried saying the same shit to me. It doesn't matter how nice someone is to you the other 99% of the time, listening to them even once can end in disaster.

What was the lightest load(s) you guys ever pulled?

I technically drove for Swift but it was a dedicated account for a paper mill. We had a backhaul where we would pick up labels for the mill, it was usually one or two pallets. I got there once and they had one small box on a pallet and said that was the whole load, so I just grabbed the box, put it on my passenger seat, drove back to the mill, parked the rig, and dropped off the box at shipping on my way out.

I took a year off from driving trucks a little while ago. I stopped drinking alcohol and smoked pot a few times a week. I lost 60 pounds. Yeah, it's a fucking win.

Yeah there's a running joke about it. You take a rip off a blunt today and get into an accident two weeks from now, and the the insurance companies will try to say you were high due to the positive result.

"DOT Certified" is made-up language. I don't know where you got that from. You, quite literally, just invented it. But yes, if you're the owner of the DOT number, you can, in-fact, "smoke dope", and never be tested for it as long as you don't get into a traffic collision.

>What benefit does it serve to dot, fmcsa, or employers? None of those even really matter. I swear to god it's the insurance companies that dictate everything, but I absolutely understand what your overall point is. For guys like you, you're just gonna have to give it some time.

>Sounds like your boss has some kinda work around for that cause if I remember right all companies are required to send in a certain % of employees annually for a random. No, lol. I was just as blown away as you when I learned that only the audited companies have random drug tests for their drivers.

Yeah, that's what we call "book world" speak. Their enforcement is lackluster, at best. And also if anyone from the Federal DOT is reading this, put up the money to pay for drug tests that act as fast as breathalyzers. You will never hear us complain if you do this.

I don't know if "exempt" is the right word. All I can tell you is that my boss told me that he has never been tested, and he's been an owner/driver for almost 30 years, and he also told me that us employees won't get randomly tested unless the company gets audited. And my cousin who also had to get a DOT number for his little firewood company was told the same thing.

No. I didn't believe it at first either, lol. Then I asked my boss about it. I drive for a guy that only has a grand total of 5 employees, and he told me that unless someone gets into an accident, which would trigger an audit, we'll never get a random drug test. I've been driving for him for 8 years as of February and have never had one.

It could be you. If you own a truck, and have a DOT number and all that, you would never get drug tested. My cousin has a small firewood business and has a DOT number on his little one-ton dump truck and they flat out told him he's never getting drug tested.

The reclassification definitely takes a big step towards federal legalization. My brother-in-law is a facility manager at a grow facility/dispensary here in Massachusetts and his best friend is the primary investor in the company. They have 4 other dispensaries that they oversee and they are doing backflips after hearing the news because they know federal legalization is just around the corner now.

Don’t even get your hopes up

RealBigDicTator@reddit

You guys have this misconception that the Department of Transportation is the problem... it's not. It's the insurance companies. Because even if marijuana were totally legal across the board, if you get into an accident and test positive for it, the lawyer on the other side is going to point to that positive result, and even though it's not true at all, will try to say that you were high while driving. And that's why the insurance companies have a stigma against weed.
