Just finished a jigsaw with a missing piece - what should I do with it?

We used to do jigsaws for a charity shop to check all the pieces were there and they said just to recycle any with missing pieces. So don't donate to a charity shop, just recycle it.

Yes terrible shame. There are YouTube videos. He explains that basically you can't get people to do the work any more. You can well imagine that it is a considerable amount of hard physical work dismantling and re-erecting all that equipment just once, let alone every few days throughout the summer.

Yes it's a long time since you had to check biscuits for beef fat (Rich Tea, I'm looking at you), but milk products do still find their way in. Sainsbury's used to be the worst offenders and I do remember a Sainsbury's carrot cake that contained animal fat (yes this was a long time ago).

People are also lactose intolerant, eat Kosher, Halal, are vegetarian, pescatarian etc and vegan covers all those. I don't know anyone gluten intolerant, though I imagine you have to check ingredients on all sorts of unexpected things like stock cubes.

If you have friends and families with various intolerances and dietary preferences or religious whatever, then vegan covers most bases really, as long as nobody is gluten intolerant. So I've found it's easiest just to cook vegan.

How is best to deal with the peer pressure to drink alcohol when going out with some old work colleagues?

They are very common and it's very common for people to drink them for whatever reason be it religious moral health or whatever and I've never known anyone particularly care. I do find the behaviour of OP's colleagues very bizarre. It would never occur to me nor anyone I know to question anyone else's drinking choice.

The gates will probably be open at Bath but even if they're not, just show the ticket to someone and say you want to break your journey. For sure, as others have said, you can't do this with an advance single, because you'll get into trouble on the next train.

I spoke to a town centre manager about this. He also ran a shop himself as a day job, which he tried opening in the evenings. He said plenty of people came in to browse, but nobody bought anything in the evenings.

Yes but at an individual level, people drive without licence or insurance, and/or in excess of the speed limit, through red lights, under the influence etc., and howl with outrage at any suggestion of actual enforcement.

How do I get rid of rats once and for all?

Posted by Supasailor78@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 255 comments

Over-Language2599@reddit

Just to warn you that when I finally managed to find and block all the holes it was jolly quiet and lonely at night without their scratching and scraping. Seriously though you can never kill them all, there are always more rats. Trapping and bait isn't really the answer. A cat would be better. I did get a trap, one of the electric zap type. They say that no sooner do we invent a new tap, rats evolve to avoid it, however I can assure you they've yet to evolve themselves resilience against 5,000 volts.

Do you fill up the kettle after use?

Posted by raben-herz@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 339 comments

Over-Language2599@reddit

I leave it off the base for the same reason, although I suppose one could do both. In a workplace, a kettle is for dispensing hot water, and people have limited time for breaks. Finding a kettle that is either empty, or has cold water in it, is a waste of time. I've worked places where there is a sign telling you to fill it up and switch it on when you've finished with it, because there will be somebody else along right away wanting hot water.

Is there any reason why UK trains can’t run until at least 1am?

Posted by ss2811@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 309 comments

Over-Language2599@reddit

There is a theory that says people are nervous of relying on the very last train, and the answer to that is to run another later train, but of course then that one will be empty. The point is, the very last train will always be virtually empty, whatever the time.
