Used to do it all the time coming home from football matches but got caught a few times by stroppy guards. Ticket is usually from A to B unless you are on a day tripper or similar.

If they're trying to give fines for unusual ticket usage that is following the rules of the national routing guide, then yes, they should be brought down a peg.

If I want to do this I always ask the person on the barrier. Never not been let out and in. I don't put my ticket in the barrier as it has a habit of eating them. And I wouldn't scan an e one because again I'd worry it would complete the journey for me. So ask the human!

If you have an off oeak or anytime day return, then yes, youre allowed to break your journey. If you have an advance ticket (can only travel on a specific train), then you cant

Yes, get on at didcot, get down in bath collect what I need and then head to Bristol. Get back to didcot at the end of the same day.

The gates will probably be open at Bath but even if they're not, just show the ticket to someone and say you want to break your journey. For sure, as others have said, you can't do this with an advance single, because you'll get into trouble on the next train.

It depends on ticket type. If you go to brfares.com and find the ***exact*** ticket you have, when you go in to view details it'll tell you whether it allows BoJ or not. If its an advance it probably doesn't, if it's not it probably does

It's called "breaking your journey" and some tickets allow it, some don't. National Rail website says an Anytime Day Return (£87.60 for Didcot to Bristol) allows a break of journey [https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ticket-types/tickets/sdr/](https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ticket-types/tickets/sdr/), and an Off-Peak Day Return (£36.20) might, depending on restrictions I can't quite get to the bottom of [https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ticket-types/tickets/cdr/](https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ticket-types/tickets/cdr/) . Honestly I would go to the Ticket Office at Didcot and ask a real human at a desk

Sometimes. It'll be in the terms for your ticket. Some let you break the journey only in one direction, others both and others still neither.

I'd imagine Bath station has ticketing gates, so no, you'd need two tickets. If the station had no ticketing gates (ie not a city station) you could likely get away with it.
