What songs come to mind when you see this

When I was older (like 12) I FINALLY had my first boyfriend and my VERY FIRST couple skate. So I’ll always think of Bryan Adams ‘Everything I do I do it for you.’ Sigh.

Did you actually sneak out as teenagers?

ha! Are you kidding? Oh you aren’t. We didn’t damn near every weekend we didn’t pull the ‘I’m sleeping at her house mom.’ With each of our parents. We drove cars, went out all night. Did things that should’ve had us dead or in jail.

How do people buy concert tickets any more?!

Haven’t read thru all the comments but just wanted to ask if you’ve all seen the news: Ticketmaster & LiveNation have now been ruled to be a monopoly. What this means now? No idea. Hopefully they have to break apart. We basically had both the venues and the ticket sellers coming together to do dynamic pricing. And there were no other owners of large venues or large ticket sellers. My hope is that this pans out well for us, the little guy. My fear is that they just pay some fines, a class action settlement and reappear as 3 or 4 different companies all under the same umbrella. Capitalism is reaching the ‘everything owned by a few’ chapter.

Question: During spring break, did college students really use to go to the beach?

How many of us have "friends" that we actually spend time with, anymore?

To see my friends we have to make plans. That takes coordinated effort, weeks of planning and finding one empty day on our calendar. It’s rare. But we try.

Are y'all still cooking full blown meals every night?

I have an 8 year old. (1980) More of a Xennial, but my husband is (1969). I wouldn’t say FULL BLOWN, but like, tonight was taco Tuesday and I can throw that together in 20 min, same with pasta or boxed jambalaya. For every meal I make that takes 45min-an hour, I have about 3 more that only take 20-30 min. And then there’s soup & chili. And those are just vibes.

I’d say the ‘hunger’ is gone. (45f) I remember I used to have that feeling of wanting to get to some point of ‘success’, whatever that is. I don’t have that anymore. Also, there is no such place. What I do have is steady income, a decent house, 2 cars, paid off, a wonderful son, and a job with lots of flexibility time wise. I care about my career, but I’m not trying to hit some target anymore.

I agree with you, to a point. I’m raising my son similarly in the way that I want him to have the confidence to do things on his own, and be able to problem solve by himself. (He loves riding his bike outside all by himself. Playing outside by himself, etc.) At the exact same time, I’m MUCH more present than my parents ever were. Praise where praise is due, we play board games together and we help him with homework. Things I never got.

It’s ALWAYS made me vomit. It doesn’t matter the kind. The amount, the type, etc. My last attempt was around 2010. One tiny inhale and the room spun and I was miserable. My fiance at the time was like: ‘maybe you’re allergic? Time to just give it a rest.’ I’ve always wondered if it’s because I have epilepsy. Alcohol doesn’t bother me at all. Brains are weird man.

I started working from home in 2013. I can be easily distracted so I made the decision to keep the tvs off and the noise to a minimum. Rarely I’ll put on music, but only if it aids in helping me get what I’m doing done quicker. Now that I’m 12 years into it, OMG, I LOVE the quiet. Like I just really enjoy it.

Money for me

My parents never taught me a thing about money and they were horrible with it. My dad thought LIFE INSURANCE was a scam. FF to my first marriage where I got to learn about credit scores. My ex kept wanting to put everything in my name. Why? Duh. We couldn’t even put as much as the phone bill in his. We were only married 19 months and my tiny little nothing credit history tanked. Now I have a budget, a financial planner, retirement savings, college savings for my kid, and an 845 credit score last I checked. It took a LOT of learning from my mistakes, being humble, and asking friends and family (sisters) who knew better than me. Oh, and I also married a better dude.

After having a kindle for years, I’ve switched back to real paper ones. Lots of reasons: I love the feel of turning the pages, I love the feel of old vs new books, I love swapping and giving books to friends, I love getting and giving books in free little libraries all over town. I’ve just now gotten back into reading (I’m 45). My son is now 7. Once he was born, that hobby was TOAST. I was surprised how many of my friends w newborns could still keep reading. I had nothing left in my brain or eyeballs to do that. I usually read before bed because I have now also been greeted by insomnia! Yay! But a chapter or two of a book with a melatonin seems to do the trick.

Have any of you "given up" TV?

Posted by WhoCalledthePoPo@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 680 comments

No_Machine7021@reddit

We’ll never ‘give up’ tv. But one good thing about streaming is I don’t rely on tv for entertainment. (I don’t just turn on the tv to see what’s on). Our son is the main tv watcher. My husband and I get about 30min to hour in a night watching whatever show it is we’re on at the moment, and that’s it. If we can stay awake on the weekend, we’ll watch a movie. We still have our good ol HD Antenna. The picture on broadcast tv is amazing…for when there’s a sportsball to watch, or maybe crazy weather coming in.

Hello, fellow old! I’m 45 and was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my hip earlier this year along with bursitis. Sexy. But wait, there’s more! I have osteoarthritis in my neck (one of those c-something numbered bones) AND I endured frozen shoulder last year! Along with more bursitis. My orthopedist seems to think I’m ’prone to bursitis.’ Again. Super sexy. I’m not a doctor, but I do go to them a lot! All I agree with from what everyone said here is to get a second opinion and to make sure you get ALL THE IMAGING possible. Good luck, fellow old. (I feel, like 36ish on the inside. )

My husband did it. Worked as a 1st AC on tv and films for 20 years. He has wonderful stories. But as someone else posted, long days are the norm. 16 hours was a usual day. 14hours was a ‘short’ day. Night shoot? Forget it. Woof. He’d be on zombie hours for days. You mentioned you have a family? Thats why my husband ultimately left. 1) we fell in love 2) he liked seeing me… work interfered with that 3) if we ever wanted a kid, which we did eventually, I’d basically be a single mom. He went back to school and is now an OT. Home every night to tuck our kid in to bed. And me. 😉 I too had my “dream” career and left it because it became overrun by corporate downsizing and moral was non-existent. I work for myself now. FWIW: we both made a lot more money in our old jobs. But we’d never get to see each other. We are 100% happier in our ‘other’ careers that give us more time and a little less money. We’re all gonna die, I’d like to enjoy as much of my time here as I can.

Great question. I actually found myself on Reddit after deleting damn near everything else. I use Threads, but I should switch to BlueSky. God I hate Zuckerberg. Instagram is meh. It’s become a meme sharer for my friends. LinkedIn is sadly a tool for getting work clients. But it is a circle jerk of ‘LOOK WHAT I CAN DO.’ Ewww.

45 is typical I believe. I say that because I just had my birthday and I go in August. Whoopee! I’m getting a bonus endoscopy because I’ve had horrible reflux for over 10 years. My doc made a wonderful joke: “we just use the same scope. Saves time.” 😝

Thank you. ☺️My hope is that it was a clerk or a volunteer like someone said. At another branch, when we see my son up with a card, it was the exact OPPOSITE experience and they were wonderful with my son, making him feel seen and heard, which really helps with confidence when they’re 4 or 5. So, again, a rant on where we are as a society. I hope it’s not the norm at the library. Also: we old
