Are y'all still cooking full blown meals every night?

Just the three of us: me and my husband, both 55, and our 25-year-old son who’s living with us while he saves for a down payment. We’ve settled into a system that actually works. I cook two nights a week, my husband cooks two nights, and my son cooks one night. One night is what we call “Forager Night,” where you’re on your own and anything not spoken for in the house is fair game, and one night we go out to eat. The rules are simple. If it’s your night to cook, you pay for the groceries, plan the meal, assemble it, and serve it. In return, you don’t do dishes that night. No griping is allowed. You eat what you’re served. You don’t have to be present for the meal since we all have different schedules, but a portion has to be set aside in a way that can be reheated properly or held in the crockpot. These are full meals, not fend-for-yourself nights, but they’re designed around real life. What makes it work is the distribution of labor. No one is overwhelmed, no one defaults into being responsible all the time, and we’ve dramatically cut down on eating out and fast food, which all of us were tired of anyway. It’s not perfect, but it’s sustainable, and that’s really the point.
