Do people actually earn £50-60k, or are they outliers?

> The problem is that the higher the salary (in my experience) the higher the stress This only applies for certain professions. Honestly I stress out far less now than I used to when I made a third as much as I did (under £25k). Having to count every litre of petrol going into the car wasn't fun; now I just top up without thinking.

What are your thoughts on dogs in restaurants/cafes?

Posted by BurnsyWurnsy@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 850 comments

Depends on the franchise. The one in the centre of town doesn't allow dogs though the Nero next door does; the one on the outskirts of town that also has a drive-through allows them.

> the F-14 managed to escape grabbing the "ensign eliminator" moniker from previous Naval aircraft. Because it was also seriously good at what it did with its big-ass radar with capabilities no other fighter had till AESA came along and even then just the power wattage, its missiles that could take out Backfires at 100 miles, it's range and time on station which neither the Hornet nor the Superhornet could match AND look cool.

Have any of you suddenly gotten and increase in UK based scam calls?

Posted by Fit-Choice2368@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 94 comments

LegSpinner@reddit

Newer Pixels have this too. It's called "Call screening" and if you tell your phone to screen, an automated message asks the caller to ID themselves and state their reason for calling which is transcribed as a message. You can read this message and choose to take the call, but every time I've screened a call the spammer has hung up.

OTD in 1963: Boeing 727 First Flight

Posted by MD-80-87@reddit | aviation | View on Reddit | 45 comments

LegSpinner@reddit

The original 717 was supposed to be a civilian version of the K/C-135. There was no demand for it that couldn't be met by the 707 so Boeing never ended up making it and focused on the 727/737.

Why are the so few Hindus in prison?

Posted by MrMrsPotts@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 423 comments

As someone from a Hindu family, this is bullshit. The reason is more likely to be *wealth* and not "shame culture" or whatever. Or do you think Hindus in India commit crimes at the same rate as in the UK? There is also another reason - domestic violence, spousal abuse etc never get reported. Some things in the Hindu and Sikh groups get handled "within the community" so you may never hear of them. Sometimes the shame is only if "outsiders" catch you.

JF-17 Thunder

LegSpinner@reddit

As someone from "the other side" - I don't actually mind this aircraft. It's not pretty (their F-16s and J-10s are better looking!) but it's a good workhorse for the PAF. Something like the Mirage F-1 was for the French or the Jaguar for the IAF. Sometimes you don't need the latest and greatest (even though it's getting upgrades), you just need a missile truck that you can deploy for cheap. The Jeff does that well enough.

It's also something the USN is sorely missing after the retirement of the 'cat. It had so much fuel and payload capacity, it could get to station early (it was faster on all fronts) and hang around for a fair bit. The Hornet/SH need frequent top-ops which means committing more resources and also can't stick around the theater too long.

OP: This is a good idea but also be under no illusions to how physically demanding this can get. Being on your feet all day and bending, squatting, lifting stuff when you're closer to 40 is not easy. Also, genuine question from someone who doesn't have a clue - is this expensive to get trained in?

This is something I'd never thought of. Great point. I've had bottled supermarket sauces (e.g. Sweet & Sour or Tikka Masala) that taste better than Chinese or Indian takeaway equivalents, I suppose back in the day that might have not even been an option, let alone those "meal for two" things you can buy from Tesco and it will still only be £10.
