I remember reading somewhere that she developed ME (or similar)not long after Strange and Norrell which is very sad and must be debilitating as far as writing goes.

I have read Piranesi yes, I love that also and alternate the two. I like the little call backs in between the books. Definitely one of my favourite writers

Currently my obsession is Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell because it’s just a funny but also sagacious cute story. I’ve read it a lot over the past two years and listened to the audiobook. I think it might be decision fatigue regarding what to read next but I slip into it so easily. Sometimes even starting a chapter at random.

But the difference in years is actually greater and things have changed so much in the past 30 years… like thinking back to the 90s: you could smoke indoors and take your kids to the pub Willy nilly, if someone wanted to get hold of you but you weren’t home there wasn’t a panic that you were dead, you were just not home. It’s wild to think about the change because we grew with the change but I imagine it’s the same feeling people born in the 70s had in the 90s/00s

There’s something very relatable about Miranda for many people I think. I really liked it for like 2 seasons because Gary was fit. Then I lost interest.

I always think Henry is cute. But then that smug little fuckface gets stuck on a corner, let’s say for example the bed, and he looks at me with those insolent smiling eyes. Taunting me. Knowing this could have been avoided but clearly blaming me. Look away god and let not your eyes see the wrath I’m about to unleash on this hellsent machine.

This is not true… I just got back from Paris and it was no where near a filthy as London/Edinburgh/Glasgow. Like there was litter but there wasn’t vomit every few meters, there wasn’t loads of rubbish just blowing in the wind. Perhaps it’s post Olympic glow but it was all very nice.

Bookshelves. Whenever someone had a bookshelf I was amazed. A shelf, just for books? Not 4000 trinkets or random medals won at sporting events? Ludicrous. That’s not to say we didn’t read, we had tonnes of books they were just shoved wherever: into cupboards, boxes in the garage, the attic or given away once they were done. I used to give my friends books and when they’d return them I was like “what am I supposed to do with this? It’s finished”

Same here. It doesn’t trouble me if they say “sorry still can’t sell it” I know the rule is they should ask if they reasonable think under 25, I don’t think it’s the cashiers fault they don’t set the rules… I wasn’t trying to give that impression

Except it is isn’t it? I usually go with “I’m 32, this doesn’t apply to me”. From what I remember of my retail training it’s not challenge 25 and blindly believe it’s an obligation? Maybe I’m wrong but damn I hope not.

I’m so shocked to see people say never leave, really thought the pessimism of UK subs would prevail. Personally I’d never come back, I have a great life here but I’ve moved countries a lot of times and you build a life wherever you go. Heck I may even go home 😂

Coughing is the literal opposite of opening the airway: it’s slamming the vocal folds together. If you can manage a sharp sniff in or a yawn you will relax the vocal folds and the aryepiglottic folds and open the larynx.

How to get medical staff to talk to me appropriately and according to my age intelligence?

There have been charges of GBH for spitting at someone, so at the very least there would be grounds for it given that it’s actually delivered into a person.

IGiveBagAdvice@reddit

I would say highlight this to staff members as others have said, and especially therapists if you’re under OT/PT/SLT, they often have the time to raise this in meetings with medics/charge nurses etc and will have working relationships with the staff members who have difficulty remembering to speak to you as an adult. This can then be addressed as a staff concern and not put you in direct conflict with your immediate care team. Although no harm will come to you from raising this with PALS while on the ward, if it makes you feel more comfortable do it when you leave the ward.

You vastly overestimate the amount of malice in staff in the health system. Sometimes they’re assholes, absolutely, but only incredibly rarely are the criminally malicious. Spitting in someone’s drip is A) GBH, and B) next to impossible. As is deliberately administering an injection to harm a person.

Tbh if the crooks at HCPC want to strike me off it would relieve the worry of having a job that pays bills and force me to actually change sector like I want. Initially probably some low level sales or similar… although it would be a massive lifestyle shift both at home and at work.

I moved here from Ireland (via Korea where expat communities build fast friends), and I found it exactly the same. One of my now best friends literally seemed indifferent the whole 2 years we studied together. Much later it emerged that he regarded us as very close friends, meanwhile I had assumed he tolerated my presence. I’m still not convinced. 😂 Overall I find the British social dynamic very tricky to navigate.
