How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line?

My car was outside for 4 hours yesterday and was noticeably green on the drive home. I'm holding off on antihistamines, etc. until my suffering becomes acute rather than my current smoker's rattle. On one of the Fake Spring days I hosed the mud off some of my floor mats and left them in the sun to dry. They did not dry, because rain happened when there was not supposed to be rain, and now they are frozen stiff because this is the bad place. Help.

A lot of the commenters here haven't lived in a place where it rains all the fucking time and/or March through October isn't a constant assault of tree jizz and it shows.

Egg aspartame water soup. The man in the apartment didn’t eat this yesterday, it’s now 3 days old.

It's just Sriracha and Kewpie mayonnaise mixed to your spiciness preference. Hibachi places (the performative type with the flaming onion volcano and spatula tricks) serve it and call it "yum yum sauce" and somebody at some point realized they could bottle it.

*No. It's the other way round if you don't think that's a salad. Let me guess, American? I've seen what you people call "salads". Egg salad and potato salad? What a joke.* I liked your first draft. America bad, you people, and "no u" in one delicious comment. Chef's kiss, no notes.

How consistently and accurately do you (personally) distinguish between "to" and "too" in your writing?

That one sucks but I double-check using the mnemonic "A-Very-Easy-Noun" which I got from [Grammar Girl ](https://twoendsofthepen.blogspot.com/2013/08/affect-vs-effect-by-grammar-girl.html)a million years ago. **A** **V**ery **E**asy **N**oun **A**ffect **V**erb **E**ffect **N**oun Except in atypical uses, like to effect change.

I'm trying to think of what I'd instantly recognize as being Maryland, and the best I've got is the view of the aquarium from the other side of the inner harbor. ....or the "Surrender Dorothy" bridge, but that was repainted and I think there's a whole generation that would have no idea what I'm talking about.

This is amazing advice for people. I used an FHA loan to get a house in my mid 30s by putting about 4.7% down, but I didn't know it was an option for people who have already owned. I don't think I'd have my own home if not for that program.

Giant. Giant Eagle is a western PA grocery store chain. My grandpa said "Jaihnt Iggle" or "Jaihn' Iggle," with the "t" being closer to a glottal stop than an alveolar/dental stop. Like your tongue ends up on the alveolar ridge but the last voiced sound is the "n"

In which states or regions does saying "the city" only refer to one specific city?

Posted by GimmeShockTreatment@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 1041 comments

HangryIntrovert@reddit

Western PA. Pittsburgh in general is "the city," but "town" is downtown, specifically. There's also loads of distinct neighborhoods, so if you were talking to another local, you'd probably be more specific because it would give context to how much of a bridge/tunnel/parking nightmare is involved in getting there.
