I have FND too that causes my left leg to go paralysed and a foot drop so I rely heavily on my air fryer and Iceland delivery because I can’t stand for long or walk far (ambulatory wheelchair user). I miss making proper meals from scratch and standing there making stir fry’s but I can do loads with my air fryer and rice cooker, it’s changed my life and just buy loads of frozen meat, veg etc. I also throw things in a slow cooker if I want hearty meals and freeze leftovers. On really bad weeks when I’m low on food shopping or can’t physically cook, I do have to eat cereal or get a takeaway which I buy extra of and freeze for emergencies

When I first started using a wheelchair I bought myself a waterproof wheelchair blanket which is kinda like half a sleeping bag that goes up to my waist and inside it’s really soft and furry. I got mine on Amazon, so maybe look at something like that? She can always double up with a blanket over the top to reach her chest but the sleeping bag one really does protect from the elements

Both my parents worked at my primary school so my dad would do his first shift as a care taker and then work with the special needs kids during the day and then be a care taker again, my mum got a job in the nursery class when I started nursery so she would take my siblings and I to school. When my oldest siblings went to secondary school, my brother and I would go to breakfast club and after school club (mum worked those jobs as well as being a TA) and then when both parents had finished work at around 6.30/7pm we would go home. Occasionally our friends parents would take us to theirs after school or our oldest siblings would pick us up and take us home

Aww sweetie it’s ok! It seems like you’re worried partly because you’re coming to a point in your life where you start making your own decisions instead of having them decided for you. It’s a normal feeling and you don’t have to worry about not knowing what you want to do after your GCSEs, as others have suggested you need to look at what’s available to you and go with your gut. A college/sixth form that does courses you love and are good at is a start. You can also apply for apprenticeships and go to college once a week alongside. I went to 6th form, failed two subjects in my first year, picked up another so I got 2 A-levels and 1 AS level, went to uni and got a Foundation Degree (didn’t feel like getting a Bachelor’s), had so many jobs afterwards and now I’m a stay at home mum to a 1 year old and I’m only 30! No idea what I’m going to do once my baby goes to school but it’s all part of the journey and if you think of it as a scary excitement instead of doom, you’ll feel better inside. If there’s some sort of advisor at your school or a teacher you get on with, speak to them and they’ll help guide you. In the meantime, enjoy this last year, keep your head down and just do your best 💚

Do you regret having kids?

I’m almost 30 with a 1 year old and have a physical disability that requires me to use a wheelchair on and off. My daughter is the best person in my life and I don’t regret having her. A few years ago when my health changed suddenly, it was many conversations on if I could handle a child - I wanted two but decided during my pregnancy that I could only handle one. I have faced homelessness in the past due to being unable to work and afford rent but now we are in an ok place with a roof over our heads. Tantrums, sleepless nights etc are exhausting but they’re short term and I can see what an amazing person she is already - amazing sense of humour, cheeky, affectionate, stubborn and smart. As difficult as things have been sometimes, it’s all worth it. I didn’t know whether I wanted kids until I met the right person and I was in my mid 20s and everything just clicked despite my health issues. For every bad thing in life, there’s ten good things and while I’m usually a pessimist, I can only think positively about motherhood and my beautiful girl

Why do British people love dim yellow lights in their homes?

I hate the big light because it’s too bright and gives me a headache but now I hate it even more. The landlord replaced the fitting and so each little LED bulb has a half glass covering and all you see is the direct light whether you’re sitting or standing and the fitting isn’t even centred in the room. It’s horrible. We just use one standing lamp from IKEA in the corner of the room with its soft, warm light pointing upwards and it does the trick. Every room in the flat has harsh, bright lights and nothing properly covering the bulb because “fashion”. When we have our own place, we’ll be replacing all the big lights with ones that are covered properly and you can use a remote to change the brightness and tone

We bulk buy pasta and rice, and we can make 1 meal last for 3 days by turning it into leftovers and then turning those leftovers into leftovers. For example, day 1 we have chicken and chips, day 2 leftover chicken with rice and veg, day 3 stir fry all of that and add egg noodles. That’s half the week done. Spaghetti bolognaise day 1 becomes jacket potato and bolognaise on day 2 and if there’s leftovers, that becomes a chilli con carne type thing for day 3. If we’re really tight for food, we have bacon and rice or boiled eggs and soldiers for dinner, sometimes even cereal. Any leftover meat can be used for a soup or instant pot meal. Just need to get crafty with it.

Where is my "Birth Certificate Number" on my Birth Certificate?

Posted by Carra144@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 8 comments

External_Science6849@reddit

The certificate number is at the top right and is just the serial number for that batch of certificates (100 per batch). If you order a new one, that number will change and is generally used for registrars to keep a record of where each certificate has been allocated both on a paper record and in their system when someone places an order for birth/death/marriage certificates. Each certificate for every batch in every local authority needs to be accounted for when GRO do their checks.

My mum and sister (then 19) worked at my primary school and they had a work night out. My sister ordered whatever alcoholic drink all good, my mum ordered herself an orange juice as she didn’t drink and the barman refused to serve her without ID. My sister started getting irritated because mum was clearly not under 25 and ordered a damn orange juice. Sister asked the barman if he was old enough to serve because he apparently looked about 16. Manager came to ask what was wrong, situation explained, barman scolded, mum got her orange juice

Tried to get him to look for a coat within our budget, he lost his shit and hasn’t spoken to us since November 🤷‍♀️

Currently 15 weeks pregnant and the thing that I’d personally love for someone to buy me would be whatever my cravings are - right now I’m loving Cocopops, orange/tropical juice and plums so if someone bought me a little bag with those in it, I’d be so damn happy! I’ve also just bought myself some dungarees and lounge pants to wear as pjs because everything is getting tight for me. Probably not a “necessity” but very useful and I intend on continuing wearing these after my baby is born because they’re loose and comfortable. As for the baby, you could buy a really nice blanket that they can still fit under when they’re a bit older? Myself and a few family members knit/crochet so I intend on sewing all the homemade blankets together as my baby grows and then adding to it over the years until they’re a fully grown adult. Or you could buy them a nursing cushion so both are comfy during those many feeds throughout the day/night?

A small conversation and introduction goes a long way! Just learn to read their body language - if they’re still focusing on their friends, brushing you aside, moving away from you gradually etc you should back off. If you persist, you enter creep territory and that’s when women start feeling unsafe. It’s good you’ve asked for advice and it always helps to learn and adapt to changes in society 😄 Obviously I can just tell you things from my own perspective and experiences and hopefully others will have more advice for you too. Unfortunately yes, twice spiked just within 2 years of each other. And they managed to spike my beer bottle that I usually cover with my thumb! Don’t know how they did that. Both times I only had 3 drinks and I never leave them unattended so I was just an unlucky target. I was 18 years old, back from uni for Christmas and had been at a pub seeing a local rock band with my then boyfriend, his mum and a bunch of friends. It was my second pint that was spiked which I knew because I couldn’t finish my third due to feeling a little unwell and my friend finished the rest of it. I only had 2 and a quarter drinks the whole night so definitely wasn’t even tipsy. We left not long afterwards once the set was finished. Thankfully I’ve got a stupidly high tolerance of drugs so it didn’t actually hit me until an hour after we got home safely and I had just tucked my friend into bed, as she was a little drunk. I ended up fracturing my cheekbone when I blacked out and smashed my face on the floor, choked on my vomit whilst unconscious but ex’s mum ran downstairs and saved my life. The second time was 3 years later and after being walked home by my (different) boyfriend, my mum came downstairs to find me blacked out on the toilet at 6am. I remembered everything except using the toilet and I had two drinks. Again, I wasn’t tipsy and my boyfriend vouched for me. I wasn’t sick or anything that time, it literally just made me pass out once it hit me which is terrifying. If I had a lower tolerance or walked home by myself, I easily could’ve been assaulted and not even known until the next day when I regained consciousness

Late 20s woman here. When I used to go out, if a guy approached me while dancing and tried talking to me, I’d be more likely to speak back. I appreciated if a guy asked if it was alright for him to dance with me because then he’s being mindful and respectful of me. If I wasn’t interested, I’d still be polite but I wouldn’t encourage conversation, might apologise and refuse his request and focus more on my friends as I’m not very confrontational and just hope he’d get the hint. If he kept pushing, I’d leave or get my friends to drag me away and intervene. I’ve had guys be very forward and put hands on me and that’s just a massive no-no. I don’t want some stranger touching me, there’s no reason for him to do that. I’ve also had guys continue to insist despite me saying no repeatedly and I’ve even been cornered before. It’s terrifying. I’ve also been spiked twice whilst out with a big group so I’m very very wary. As long as you use your words and keep your hands to yourself unless told otherwise, you’ll be fine! I’d like to think that most women would feel comfortable enough to walk away if they didn’t like your advances, but most of the time that depends on how you come across. If you’re laid back and not offended by rejection, there’s this vibe you give off that we can detect and that determines our stay, fight or flight responses.

What would you say is the maximum acceptable age difference for a relationship?

Posted by starry089@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 745 comments

External_Science6849@reddit

Agreed! My partner is 18.5 years older than me and we’ve been together for a few years now. Some people are disgusted by it but we just laugh because it’s not their business and we are equals. We support each other, tell each other when one of us is being a dick and our personalities compliment one another. There’s so much love between us and the age difference isn’t an issue for us. My dad and his wife have a large age gap too and they’ve had kids together. People just make this shit into a problem for no reason half the time and are just ignorant 😂

Are you aware you can just buy a copy of someone's Birth, Marriage or Death certificate?

Posted by DeviousBeevious@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 22 comments

External_Science6849@reddit

Worked as a registrar and you literally just need to know the name, place and date of birth when ordering a birth certificate. If we found multiple possibilities, we’d call the customer for more information and then issue the certificate to them. You can pretty much get a hold of anyone’s birth, death or marriage certificate if the right details were known to make a purchase because to some degree, it’s public information. There’s also Ancestry which helps fill in the blanks when people are doing their family tree and that’s how they know what local authority to order from
