This is why I keep insisting the US and Europe should just ignore the Houthis. Israel can readily deal with any direct threats, and attacks in the shipping lanes will hurt Asia and the Middle East equally if not more the NA/Europe. Basically let the Middle East decide between letting their economies collapse or confronting the Houthis themselves. Maybe with the help of Asia. But no reason the west needs to lead this.

Sure “genocide” . Regardless, my point is the US/Europe can simply send the ships around Africa and the Middle East will be the ones hurt most by these actions. The the US/Europe can just wait it out until someone like Egypt is forced to act.

Said it before and I’ll say it again, these attacks will hurt the middle eastern Arab nations more than anyone else. Reality is, despite allegedly targeting only Israeli shops, nobody else will really want to take the run. Shipping costs for the US and Europe will go up marginally as the dips route around South Africa, but projections are they will remain under Covid level. This means Asia-Europe international trade routes will be directly bypassing the Suez Canal and the Middle East now. This will hurt the economies of the Middle East Arab nations WAY more than the US or Europe. So the onus should be on the to address the situation and the US/EU should keep out of it. Then the west can sit back and watch as ME nations have to choose between their economies collapsing or actually taking action to stop the Houthis.

Yes, the militaries in the Middle East should do something about the Houthis as their trade will be most impacted. I doubt the terrorists have anywhere near the force protection needed to affect the new Europe-Asia routes around South Africa.

Honestly the US and Europe should sit this one out. Ships are already rerouting to avoid the Suez Canal and going around South Africa instead. Projections are shipping costs will go up for Europeans, but nowhere near covid levels. However this means the Suez Canal and the Middle East will no longer be the epicenter of trade between Europe and Asia . It is very clear when you think economically and geopolitically who would suffer most from this. The real problem move would be to sit and watch the Middle East squirm as the decide between letting their economies collapse or turning against the pro-Hamas Houthi’s.

The Us should have captured it, or shot it down, within minutes seconds of it violating our airspace and not responding. Anything else is absolutely absurd from a national security perspective. Yes the group is an Iranian backed militia. Like Hamas and Hezbollah. Even more of a reason we should disproportionally retaliate against them.

Pure military might is definitely enough. It’s ethics that get in the way. Russia subdued Chechnya and China the Ughyers. Neither has a serious terrisim problem anymore. Also no Arabs were protesting. Israel just needs to utilize their methods.
