o7. I'm 44 and hitting a golf ball farther and better than ever before. Existence, especially consciousness, is a horrid nightmare of a joke, but some really cool things can happen too.

Did you have any magazine subscriptions growing up? My aunt gave me a Nintendo Power subscription for Christmas each year and always looked forward to seeing it in the mailbox.

It depends on what your eating, drinking, and exercise habits are now. I just got similar news, and I drink too much and eat like shit from time to time. I'm going hard on diet, exercise, and taking a long break from alcohol.

Cigarette smoking to vaping?

Posted by itriedicant@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 195 comments

DnDAnalysis@reddit

I had the exact same journey as you, gully quit nicotine a year ago. I was smoking and vaping, then just vaping, and finally quitting vaping was the hardest part. You are 1000% addicted to nicotine. You just get a different satisfaction from a cigarette. Vaping loads your bloodstream with it, making it so hard to quit. Best advice i have is this: cravings literally last about 10 seconds. If you can chill for 10 seconds 500 times a day, you can quit nicotine. It gets easier every day. Eventually, cigarettes seem gross, and vaping seems not worth it (no real satisfaction).

I quit cigarettes and vaping in my 40s. If you want a more interesting life, go for it! There are tons of cool cities in the US. New York is its own beast, but many people love living there. I really like Philly.

When’d you get a job and what was the job

Posted by Physical-Name4836@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 545 comments

DnDAnalysis@reddit

I got my work permit at 14. My first job was landscaping/painting for someone who owned a ton of apartments. When I was 16 or 17 that evolved into working on a demolition crew gutting a historic building for renovation. Nothing like swinging a sledge hammer all day, prying off wooden baseboards that we were saving, tearing down plaster and lathe walls, and removing the 4x4s in sneakers with no hard hat. The foreman was an alcoholic, I met my favorite weed dealer on that job, and we all smoked cigarettes all day while working. I made $5/hr under the table, and I used to boast "that's like $6.70 if I was being taxed!"

Damn, we have boomers in our ranks already? LLMs are tools that are rapidly advancing. I basically do quality control for AI for a living. To see someone my age yelling "get off my lawn" at AI is silly. We are supposed to be the first tech literate generation. I don't actually think that LLMs are going to be the AI that "changes everything," at least not economically. But they are very good at some things already, and I can tell you from personal experience that they are able to take feedback and improve very quickly. I work on lots of projects where we are supposed to "stump the model," and it gets harder and harder to make it mess up as the project goes on.

My partner gave me three haircuts during covid. She did great, but it was stressful and took much longer. I can't imagine not having my barber now. He's ridiculously good and charges $27. I hate to say it, but anyone doing self haircuts is not getting anywhere near the quality they could be getting. A good haircut is one of the only things that can literally make you better looking.
