Grew up with the lead singer of this band, this is honestly one of my favorite songs in the last decade. They didn't become anything big but did do a lot of stuff locally. Not sure how active they are still, I moved away a number of years ago.

Anyone who knows the Jessica Rabbit from the episode of Botched, one of my closest high school friends was Tom Ogden who designs all of her costumes. Plus Latrice Royal of Rupaulās Drag Race, her husband went to my high school. Considering how rural my high school was, like ran cows off the football field at games, it is amazing they went to my school.

Ok. Eastern MA.
Grew up in local TV news. Knew all the local anchors and meteorologists. Carroll Spinney (Big Bird) went to our school district years earlier. Steve Carell was a local, went to a nearby private school. They Might Be Giants was from the rival high school. Chris Evans was in all the same drama classes as my sister, a couple of years behind me, and was an obnoxious and entitled teenager. (No shade; he grew up, did good things since, and took his sister Carly to the Oscars.) a kid at our local radio station lived with Sonic Youth for a while. Another guy ended up as Janeās Addictionās manager. (Heās the guy in the Red Sox hat breaking up the on stage fight which ended the band.)
Iām probably forgetting quite a few. As for myself? Iāve worked on over a hundred movies and tv shows and have was featured on an Oscars broadcast. And Iām in two rock bands. But when it comes down it, Iām really just Dad.

Yeah, a high school friend and I got lucky with our indie band ~15 years ago and have been touring internationally ever since. Ā I donāt consider myself famous but I do sign a lot of autographs and take selfies with random people who recognize me on the street. Ā Once was when I was Christmas shopping with mom and the cashier recognized me, which was cool because sheād recently moved to the US from Latvia. My mom was like āif you have fans all the way in Latvia, why are you still broke?āĀ
Thereās also been a bunch of times where I see someone wearing my bandās merch and I go up to them and say āthat band fucking sucks!ā to see if theyāll argue with me or recognize me. Ā Itās about 50/50. Ā
The best was when I got a job in a restaurant kitchen to cover bills after the band got stiffed on two festival feels totaling $100k. Ā I was fucking pissed at the world and especially the music industry. Ā So Iām in training on my first day and my bandās song came on the Spotify playlist, triggering me like a mf. So I go to the FOH and Iām like ay you think we could skip this track? And dude says āyeah totally I fuckin hate this bandā. I didnāt tell him, but a few days later he found out and apologized like crazy because he was an aspiring indie rocker himself and thought heād just blown an industry connection. Ā
Anyway, aside from myself, my middle school bully is a well-known ncaa menās basketball coach now. Ā We were on the same team and he used to call me and the other 3rd stringers āf-slur squadā and pantsed me more times than I could count. Ā His dad is way more famous than him though.
A woman I performed with in college is one of the most famous poets in the game right now, not sure if that counts. She performed at Carnegie hall recently.
chibisparkle@reddit
Now I am invested...did you, perhaps, invent stomp clap hey music?
Emannuelle-in-space@reddit
No hell no. We emerged in the early 10ās as part of the antithesis to stomp clap. Ā We literally made a no-beard rule for the band for that reason
chibisparkle@reddit
Okay so no Portlandia :) and you aren't capital cities. Antithesis...hmm...im about to 20 questions you š
Emannuelle-in-space@reddit
I donāt know either of those bands so you might be way off. Ā
We arenāt a big band though. Unless youāre really into shoegaze, or were in a local hipster diy scene in 2012, you probably havenāt heard of us.Ā
chibisparkle@reddit
Maybe! Okay, so you aren't Death grips...Beach house?
Emannuelle-in-space@reddit
No but Iāve played shows with both of them. Ā Death grips were surprisingly friendly and respectful. Ā We did a festival tour with Beach House and I embarrassed myself when the singer came up to me to say ānice setā and I thought she was a festival employee, so I asked her where I could get weed. Ā She was cool abt it though. Ā We did our 4th LP with Chris Coady because we loved what he did for beach house.

The quarterback for my NC high school football team who led us to 3 consecutive state championships his sophomore, junior, and senior years, was a heisman runner-up for Tennessee, and drafted into the NFL. My college ex and post-college ex were both profiled by the New York Times for professional reasons, with full-page above and below the fold photos; the former for their work in local government, the latter for their work at the federal level. Oh shit I already commented but I just remembered another one thatās way betterā¦
Back when I was a sophomore in college, my (very very progressive) liberal arts school held its yearly school-sponsored orgy called the Sleaze Ball. Ā There were signs everywhere saying āno penetration on the dance floorā that most people ignored. Ā This was like 2004-05, so before everyone had a camera in their pocket. Ā So this one dude, who was notorious for being a spoiled rich kid, shows up with a fancy professional digital camera and starts taking pictures. Ā A friend of mine confronts him like āyooo you canāt do that here, the whole point is that we can let loose get naked and not worry about pervs and outside judgement, etcā but he says āno I have a right to photograph in publicā. So naturally, she smacks the camera lens out of her face, causing it to fall the floor. Without missing a beat, the dude winds up and cracks her right across the jaw, knocking her out. Ā Another friend of mine, who resembles a bear in both size and attitude, leaps up and tackles him, requiring about 10 of us to pull him off. Ā
This was weeks before the photo douche was supposed to graduate, but the school had a strict zero tolerance for violence policy. So the kidās rich parents make a massive donation and heās allowed to stay on campus and graduate. Ā
Fast forward a decade or so and Iām flipping channels at a friendās house when the TV show Catfish comes on and I realize the host is the dude who knocked out a girl because he wanted to photograph her nude against her will. Now heās probably the most famous person I went to school with.

A girl I went to high school with is somewhere on the top ten list of actress credits on imdb. She was number six on a list that was posted five years ago. But she's gained over a hundred voice acting credits since then. Her name is Kari Wahlgren. You probably know her as Jessica from Rick and Morty.
