You’d need to pass vetting, this doesn’t necessarily mean British by Birth. Only the recruitment team could advise on what would and wouldn’t be acceptable and the required level of vetting. Your question is oddly specific. No one can give you an exact answer in public.

Motorway? Are you sure. Only smart motorways have “lay-bys” and then these are not breakdown only and monitored by national highways, setting up stall will see a traffic officer tell you to move on, or traffic police if they are passing. Are you sure you don’t mean major road lay-by.

The QR is static unfortunately. You could use a printed or electronic copy of the QR to spend or earn points. They IMHO need to add time validation bits salted with something taken from the app into the QR code to stop this. I’d guess there is something in the backend systems that prevents Nectar / Sainsbury’s from implementing such hardening.

As an in house medic (first aid?) you should be briefed by the organiser when it’s appropriate or not to call the emergency number. I’m struggling to think of when the organiser or the organisers non professional medics / first aiders calling the number would be appropriate. Doctors, paramedics, nurses are trained on when it’s appropriate to use emergency contact numbers. Certainly from a work perspective I know our on site first aiders are told they shouldn’t use emergency contact numbers themselves. Either let the genuine emergency services make the call or inform HR for staff.

Disastrous-Force@reddit

The situations where next of kin numbers are called realistically are where it’s likely that you have been seriously, possibly critically injured. The risks etc of this coming back in a negative way are similar to likelyhood of the organisers needing to contact your next of kin. Not zero but incredibly rare for most events / activities. If you genuinely have no one then funeral directors or doctors aren’t bad numbers. Both will have 24/7 contact numbers for emergencies. If you had a will then whichever solicitors you’ve lodged it with would also be an option. The organisers are mostly collecting these numbers to pass on to the emergency services if something bad was to happen, not for themselves to call your next of kin.

It depends on how you define winning, some friends run a very successful bakehouse. However from an earnings perspective they are hardly winning. The two owners earn as wages for them about £800 per week before tax. Turnover is over £1m pa. They have staff, premises and lots of equipment that eat up a big chunk of turnover. They could and would earn more as salaried production managers at a commercial bakery. Someone working full time for NWM would earn before tax approx £450 per week and get 5.8 weeks of holiday.

Generally we do now. There are exceptions of course, generally deep underground lines where venting out the heat is problematic. Most regional transport bodies have AC as a mandatory spec item for new bus orders.

The interest on that deal may well be £4k. However they’re walking away with about £8k in profit outside of the interest. I have a much bigger system than your proposed one so will have more excess during the day where the PV is generating above house daytime load. You’ll probably do about half my numbers late April to early Sept and yes the summer period is like to net me around £800 between April and September. My larger system wouldn’t cover your £160 a month rent/finance btw across 12 months, let alone generate a profit.

They’re massively expensive. Pick any other installer the price difference will shock you. £160 per month is basically £2k a year or £20k over 10 years. How long a term have they proposed? A 5.7kWp system (12x480) with a 10kWh battery is basically about £8k installed with profit these days. You’ll sell hardly anything back to the grid in winter, my 7.2kWp system sold about £40 worth electricity back to grid between November and March. For record I’ve sold about the same this week alone.

Yep if the council had entered into a long term agreement with a CIC to take over the running and maintenance of the space. Then the short and medium terms budgets will not have factored in the cost of upkeep, difficulty for the council now will be cost of clean up and repairs to get the space back to its previous state. Once the repairs are sorted the ongoing routine maintenance of space like that can usually be covered by letting out revenue activity rights to a concessionaire, whilst maintaining free public access.

If the lease has ended then maintenance responsibility will have shifted back to the council. The council probably don't have the available budget to maintain the space, properly fenced and floodlit pitches and courts are expensive to maintain. The likely next step for the council once the condition deteriorates further will be to block off public access on the grounds of safety. Have you considered trying to set-up another CIC to secure the likely peppercorn lease from the council and takeover maintenance.? You'd need to build a community around it of volunteers and organisational or private donors to fund the ongoing upkeep.

Right so the rental company could pursue you for the usage you’ve not paid for. They’ll obviously know the fob number issued to you and your address. This of course assumes the system isn’t sufficiently automated that fob won’t be blocked as you as you stop paying for the legitimate one.

The system will log entries and exits. Maybe it’s configured to block double entry maybe it’s not. You won’t know until you try it. The Paxton system generally uses codes embedded in the fob registered with the Paxton server, rather programming a fob with an access code. The fob of the person you’ve copied will be in breach of their agreement by letting you do this. They can subject to contract wording probably be pursued for costs and damages. You using the car park without permission is likely to be trespass and owners can try and pursue you for payment / charges. This may also constitute a breach of your tenancy agreement.

Most shows suffer from far too many time wasters to send senior staff to go on a stand/booth directly. A surprising amount of “retail” customers somehow manage to attend supposedly trade only events. The typical approach is use tier of junior or hired in for the event staff to qualify leads so your BD / sales / tech team get to spend quality time with viable customers. If the stand/booth has a drinks service by invitation (fairly common now), this is used a as way to get the qualified lead to stay until the relevant BD / sales / tech person is free to talk to them. I’ve seen shows / exhibition’s across Germany and France with exhibitors adopting the same approach.

Trade shows are generally for the exhibitor to try and sell to visitors that are potential customers, not for representatives as visitors to try and sell to exhibitors. The people manning stands likely have no procurement authority and limited knowledge of production / components. Many of them will be hired in temporarily to man the stand and collate leads for the field sales / business development team to follow up later. Think of them as gatekeepers. If you where a "serious" buyer they may well pass you over to sales or BD person their and then. These people are not your buyers. If you want to market to buyers then you'll need to try and make contact outside of shows, or consider if your employer is willing to exhibit. It's fairly common the actual buyers will be at the trade shows walking around seeing suppliers and potential suppliers, just they will not on their employers stand or available for anyone that walks up to speak to.

Efficient maybe, affordable for the target market no not really. The price premium for a Fiesta ST, Cilo RS, 208 GTi, Polo GTI or Yaris GR become so large that affordability new became limited to higher income owners/families, for many reasons these buyers opted towards larger cars that better suited their needs (e.g. kids). The lack of new purchases then limited the used market and used affordability. The market moved onto C segment cars and "hot" or "warm" SUV styles.

I've never see a funder for viability use the metric of cost per installed kW its either kWp or kWh. The installed capacity (kW) is different to the realistic peak generating capacity (kWp) or the hourly (kWh). The forecast annualised output in kWh is the most common viability metric Remember a notional 1MW array will across a full year average back to around 2.5MWh per day in the UK. Some locations will do better, some will do worse but as a very high level viability number that will give you a good idea what the scheme will return. All I'll say is that the return on canopy > BES > car is poor, done that too, you need a lot of surface area to generate a worthwhile amount of energy to feed anything other than a token EV charging venture.

Posted by MrSoapbox@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 213 comments

Disastrous-Force@reddit

It really is more expensive, I can put PV in a field for approx £1.5k per kWh. In a car park and the figure is closer to £4k per kWh. Both ignoring any grid reinforcement costs. I do both commercially, at scale, sometimes megawatt scale. Your car park ROI is about 3 years too short at the kind of sell prices you’ll get on a private wire agreement or PPA. At a five year ROI every major car park owner would rip your hand off. The advantage of using retail/airport/industrial carparks is you can typically agree a private behind the meter takeoff with the site occupier to avoid having to deal with export and grid constraints.

It is and it’s happening it just costs a lot of money. Approx £4m for each typical large supermarket site or in the region of £2.5bn to £3bn for one majors to cover every store car park. Lots of schemes will be happening in the next few years. The ROI is heavily dependent on grid energy costs. Around 8 to 10 years is where schemes currently sit assuming a “sell” price of 22p per kWh.

When to hand notice in?

Posted by Puzzleheaded_Age4568@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 24 comments

Disastrous-Force@reddit

What background checks? Are these just references? DBS? UKSV? We expect a new employee to hand their notice into their now former employer at the point they sign the contract. We would pull the offer if the employee asked to wait for them to clear and it’s suggests that there maybe something we’re not going like that they haven’t declared and are hoping isn’t discovered. We will and have started employees before references come back or UKSV completes. DBS is so quick it doesn’t make a difference and the employees always knows if they have something dodgy anyway.

You’ve listed a load of hot rod events, when custom built hot rodding isn’t really popular across Europe. Car culture is more than just custom built hot rods. Big show’n’shine type events are not really a thing rather they’ll be focused on a given mark solely such a VW (dubs), Ford, Renualt etc. The attendance per event due to being focused is obviously much lower, but there are lots of these events across the summer season. Modified scene is much about modding typical French, German and Japanese hatches / saloons. There is IMHO more commonality to the JDM scene across Europe than the US rodding scene. Custom bespoke builds are fairly uncommon as street cars due to regulations and approvals. Non street track toys is a very different world of craziness, but these will turn up at private track days of which there are lots and lots.

Disastrous-Force@reddit

How old is the car and is the dash digital? The owner should have corrected the mileage at the point they fitted the used dash. Doing it now after two MOT's is far too late and screams of clocking. If you are serious about buying get the ECU read via a diagnostics unit to see what mileage the various control units believe the car has done. The ECU mileage isn't where the dash gets its information from, so the ECU should always read correctly. If its an automatic the gearbox control unit will also store mileage.

The figure will not be the cost of changing the doors, but getting a qualified fire engineer with professional indemnity insurance in to redo the fire strategy / fire risk assessment for the whole school. There is likely to be healthy don’t want to do it component in the fee, as these kind of assessments are a pita for the consultant too. The school will take a zero risk, zero liability approach and want a piece of paper to fall back on if it’s ever queried or there is a fire. Getting the fire alarm modified to include hold open devices on the doors will be massively cheaper and easier. The fire alarm maintenance contractor can do this.
